QUALITY OF STAY: sheets definitely need to be washed and tub needs to be cleaned. Maintenance and upkeep needs work. AC did not blow very cold considering the temperature of El Centro you would think that AC would be a huge amenity. STAFF: they weren't very friendly. They were very straight to the point. I didn't feel very much like a guest but rather money in their pocket. SUMMARY: I would not recommend this place to anyone. The room was nice, staff was friendly, but have to give this place one star due to my room having BED BUGS. I woke up with small red bumps in cluster patterns all over my arms and back. Small red dots on my sheets (blood stains) confirms that this place most certainly has a bed bug problem. Here are pictures of the bugs I found in my bed after waking up. Don't risk it, pay a few bucks more for a cleaner hotel room somewhere UPDATE: here are pictures of my bed bug bites 4 days after the fact. I counted over 60 bites on my body from the 3 nights I spent sleeping at the crown. Obviously I'm pretty upset about the matter. I've slept in countless hotels/motels over the years and have never experienced this. ROACHES. DIRTY. HORRIBLE I'm only giving one star because I have no other choice. I'll start out by saying, I am absolutely not one to come on Yelp and give bad reviews. This situation cannot be ignored and I would HATE for someone to be in the same situation me and my friend found ourselves in tonight. So I booked the room through Expedia. The rating was 3.9 and for around $50 a night I thought that was a great deal. Also, the pictures are highly edited and look nothing like they do in person. I was traveling to El Centro from San Diego ( about a two hour drive) because I had an appointment at the DMV the following morning pretty early. We checked in, went to the room to put our bags in there and take a look around. It was what was expected. Looked decent, definitely had an odor to it but that's nothing I can't deal with. We went to eat and run some errands and returned a few hours later. When we went to turn down the sheets to check for bugs or anything of the sort, two roaches scurried from under the blankets and on to the floor. I have included pictures below as you will see. They are not the best quality because I was obviously shaking from dread, not to mention roaches are pretty fast. Needless to say, we grabbed our stuff and headed to the lobby. We calmly explained what had happened and that we were sorry, but we couldn't stay here. The front desk guy said "okay then leave." I then stated that we would need a refund to which he laughed and responded very rudely "that's not going to happen." I proceeded to tell him I had pictures, ONLY to let him know that he can take a look for himself to which he said "go ahead, post your pictures and give us a bad review I don't care." When I asked again for a refund he told me "absolutely not call Expedia," to which I did. We went back and forth for a while when Expedia told me they were going to call the hotel. The guy at the front desk said he would not answer Expedia. He wound up eventually answering but only to lie to them and tell them we were just trying to "scam" them and get our money back. We tried to explain to them that we were two hours away from home, were hot, tired, and had an early appointment the next morning to which they told us to leave or they would call the police. To which we said "go ahead call them" and apparently this was no big deal to them because in his words, "the police are there all the time." Whatever that means. Look. My friend is a new mom who was doing me a favor by driving me to El Centro. We're not trying to scam anyone out of $50. A bad situation happened and we just wanted the situation corrected. Instead we were met with attitude and inconsiderate, threatening staff. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. Also, although Expedia seemed to try to correct the situation, all they could offer us was a $25 voucher. So after all is said and done, we had to book a room at the Best Western (which is extremely clean with friendly staff.) but we had to pay double what we paid at Crown including the original price at the Crown, as Expedia would also not provide a refund. Please please do not stay here. The only thing suckier than the rooms are the staffs attitudes. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD AT A MOTEL- EVER! We drove to El Centro for an overnight to take care of some business the next morning. We checked in around 4 and left to run some errands and grab dinner. We got back around 8ish- went to pull down the sheets of the bed, and that's when we spotted the cockroaches - we got dressed and got out of there to ask for a refund. The front desk couple were VERY RUDE- they refused a refund - calling us "scammers" and insinuating we were making all of this up. We never got a refund. We could ignore that the room smelled a "little off"- but to have to leave a room when you are ready for bed because of something like roaches is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable. Apparently we are not the first to complain about roaches according to Yelp- I wish we had read this sooner. read more

The service is horrible and the place was not cleaned properly the pillows and sheets had stains on them.there was hair on the pillow and hair on the towels like they hadn't been changed . I wish we would have never booked this. I also wish someone in management would have been more helpful at helping us resolve the issues. This hotel was absolutely NOT what was shown to us online. They were out of rooms even though we had a reservation and gave us a room that use to be the "office?" It was so damaged and dirty. There were holes in the wall, the lights in the main part of the room were missing and didn't turn on. It looked like the bed had been laid in. There were open pipes in the room as if a sink had been ripped out and they just left the pipes there. There was urine at the bottom of the toilet. The shower was filthy. Cigarette burns in the blankets. When we asked the management for something else, he just kept saying this is all you can have. I have nothing else. And refused to talk to us further. There were feral cats running everywhere around the property and the outside of our door smelled like cat urine. The roof looked like it was going to cave in any moment. We requested a refund and were refused. What I was most upset about in all of this was I felt it was false advertising. The photos showed remodeled rooms and we paid for a King, comfortable no frills room. I would have been ok with that. But the conditions of this room were way way below standard. They are soooo close to getting a 5 star review from me. I literally only have one big complaint, and I weighed back and forth trying to decide how to rate them. In the end, my complaint wins the one-star loss, but my overall review is still a very good one. The price can't be beat. We paid $45 for a suite. It had a King-size bed, a flat screen TV with cable, a microwave, a refrigerator, an AC unit, and WiFi. Everything was clean. The bathroom looked newly remodeled. There was a free continental breakfast (fruit, wrapped pastries, oatmeal, juice, coffee). The owners were very nice, and they even let us check out late without any fuss or extra fee. My literal only complaint was the shower. There was no water pressure at all. It took forever for me to get my hair wet enough to wash it, and then again forever to rinse out the shampoo and conditioner. And if the water pressure isn't enough to clean the top of your head, imagine what a challenge it was to clean anything south of there! Though I can hardly fault the motel itself for the water pressure, the solution could be as simple as a new showerhead that is adjustable for different spray patterns and such. If I could have simply changed the pattern from a very wide spray into a more narrowed jet stream, it would have helped immensely. Considering you can get such a showerhead for under $20, and they do not have that many rooms, it seems for a very small investment, they would easily be able to fix the only thing wrong with their motel. In addition to all of the other good things about our stay, Crown is within walking distance of practically everything. We were able to get out and do things without worrying about how to get there or get back. I will definitely be back to Crown if I ever find myself down near Calexico again, and I absolutely recommend them! read more

As soon as I went to check in the lady at the front desk was extremely rude and proceeded to tell me that the reservation I had made online was for a handicapped room And I could not stay in it. I was unaware of The room being handicapped when booking it. She acted as if I had purposely done this to get a lower rate when it was just about two dollars less I told her she could just cancel my whole reservation completely after I said this she hands me a room card and tells me which room to go to I had booked a non-smoking room she put me in the handicapped room which was smoking it smelled horrible! I went in the room to lay down for a little bit because I had a long drive when I got up to get the things out of my car I opened the door and the male Manager was standing right outside of the door he proceeded to ask me what I was doing? This made me very uncomfortable as I was staying there alone and I am a female. Throughout the day the same male manager continued to walk the premises and each time he walked by he would look through the window I eventually had to shut the blinds. I can't say enough good things about this motel. This room is easily as good as the rooms at Best Western that I pay close to a hundred bucks for. I especially like the tiled floors rather than the usual carpet that is never quite clean. Super friendly staff-super clean-great beds- even good coffee. This was a great deal - they charged me $40 plus 10% tax for a total of $44, and motels closer to Interstate 8 had nothing under $55.99 plus tax. The room was very clean, in fact immaculate, although from the outside the building looks old and drab, the room inside was modern and clean. The room had an older TV with cable and HBO, good air conditioner, microwave, fridge that kept ice frozen, and best of all, wi-fi with a strong signal and fast. I walked around the building and the wi-fi seemed strong even at the end of the building furthest from the office. Outside there is an ice machine and coin-operated washer and dryer. The woman at the desk was very pleasant. It appears to be a family living at the office complex. There is a free breakfast from 6 am to 10 am. If the door to the office is still locked at 6 am just knock and they will come and open the door. Tables with stools to sit and eat. The breakfast was instant oatmeal, packaged pastries, apples, coffee machine and a machine with orange juice and cranberry juice. There are places to eat close by including a Chinese take-out. Any complaints are just minor things. The lighting in the room is all fluorescent recessed ceiling lights and not the best for reading - no table lamps. The bed was firm and I tossed and turned, but if you like a firm mattress it will suit you. There is a small swimming pool (no jacuzzi), but I did not go in it as it had many leaves on it and dirt visible. Hopefully this was a one-time thing as the result of a wind storm the day before, and they had the pool clean again the next morning. The patio area near the pool has a BBQ grill, I assume gas-operated I don't know if guests are allowed to use it. The pool is in a bad location right next to a major street, with cars going by. I would suggest they build a wall around the pool for more privacy and to protect the water somewhat from blowing debris on windy days. Overall it was an real bargain, very nice owners and yes I would stay again at this place. read more

Hate to follow-up with a bad review, but be warned the AC units just aren't up to par during the summer months. Granted on the day I checked in it was 117, BUT the AC should cool the room down. No matter what temp I set it on, it just didn't get cold, slightly cool was the best it got. I tried switching rooms but the other wasn't any better. I was slightly suspicious when I walked into the lobby and it was hot. Oh and the ice machine wasn't working either. Really wanted to ice down some beer after a VERY long and stressful day. They must have their friends give all of there great reviews because this place is nasty. We checked in and it had a pretty strong moldy smell. The door looked like it had maybe been kicked in at one time and was just filthy. There were bugs smushed onto the window. It was the worst hotel I have ever checked into. Very dodgy area, and the guy next to us was running an extension cord from his truck to his hotel and walking around just staring at us. We stayed for 10 mins and left. When I went to return the key and told the manager about the condition of the place and the scary guy, he said that must be the guy in room 106. And that was it. So we just left. Vijay the owner and his wife are warm, kind & accommodating. The bathroom was remodeled recently with sparking clean shower tub and black granite surfaces. We were so pleased with the Crown Motel. It was very updated and clean. Surprisingly the Motel is on the main road but we never heard any traffic. We were on the first floor which was perfect for us because we had a dog. We also had our falcons and Harris hawk which stayed in our truck, but we felt safe keeping them there since we did have the first floor. I felt safe as they have double locks on the doors too.. No one bothered us. They also have surveillance camera which I liked, cause I'm a scaredy cat. The rooms had air conditioning which was really nice. The beds were so very comfortable and I slept better than I sleep in my own bed. I would give this motel 5 stars. Pet friendly was huge for us having our dog with us. We were there for business with our birds, so everything was fantastic. The only thing I would suggest to have in the rooms is more towels, shampoos and conditioners. Other than that this place was great! Oh did I mention how great the price was. I can't believe we were there 5 dats and it only cost $267. You can't get that bargain anywhere. They refused to call the police the owner threatened to kick me out because of my frustration towards my stuff being taken and them not even trying to help. This is probably one of the nicest motels I've ever been to! My family and I stayed overnight at this motel. I had 3 rooms and paid less than $50/room. Thinking that it was cheap, I wasn't really expecting much. To my surprise, the room was really nice! It was clean, it didn't smell anything and there was a microwave and mini-refrigerator in each rooms! We got there at around 8-8:30 pm and the guy at the desk was very accomodating. The next day, as we were checking out, the lady at the desk offered coffee and pastries before we leave (assuming it's the usual continental breakfast that other Motels offer). All in all, it was a really great experience. The only thing that's keeping me from giving it a 5-star was that the bed were too high and I personally had difficulty getting on them. Really nice, and you can't beat the price! The rooms are large, like I remember motels being as a kid in the 1960s. Queen-size beds, too. The bathrooms have been remodeled with black tile and those shower curtains that bow out to give you more room. The owners obviously care about this place. Room had a nice-sized refrigerator and a new microwave. I didn't swim, but many others were enjoying the pool. It a seemed quite warm to the touch; but then, the air was 106 degrees during the day! I made a reservation through Yelp. I reserved a deluxe king room. I finally arrived at the motel around 9:30 PM. The male staff that was there first begin telling me that I did not have a reservation. He then told me my reservation was not until the following evening. I showed him my confirmation email. He gave me room 219, which did not have a king bed as stated in the reservation. The room and beds smelled like urine. The handles on the dressers were broken. There is minimal water pressure. We were just there to sleep anyway. I realize that this is just a cheap hotel and was only there to sleep, but the beds had the most awful mattresses, and along with the urine smell, I didn't sleep well. It was not worth the 50.00 to me. Two stars for not seeing any bugs in the room. read more
