Bed bugs
James W.

The room was nice, staff was friendly, but have to give this place one star due to my room having BED BUGS. I woke up with small red bumps in cluster patterns all over my arms and back. Small red dots on my sheets (blood stains) confirms that this place most certainly has a bed bug problem. Here are pictures of the bugs I found in my bed after waking up. Don't risk it, pay a few bucks more for a cleaner hotel room somewhere UPDATE: here are pictures of my bed bug bites 4 days after the fact. I counted over 60 bites on my body from the 3 nights I spent sleeping at the crown. Obviously I'm pretty upset about the matter. I've slept in countless hotels/motels over the years and have never experienced this. I won't be able to sleep in a hotel for a very long time without thinking about bed bugs after this ordeal.

They do a decent job for being a low priced motel...... They were very friendly and quick at check in and even gave me a bottle of water ..... Sure I wish there was Kleenex in the Room and there was coffee in the morning but it is good to have a low priced option like this place and it seems pretty clean and the bed was very comfortable

They didn't replace this blanket so disgusted
Christy V.

Awful place not like picture what they posted it made look nice... I wouldn't sleep next room too loud and bang on wall at 2am-4am. Bedroom didn't even clean! The floor and window had thick dust I had allergy sneezed, blanket seem not replace cleaned, it has hole on roof, light switch had dirty leave fingerprint and much more. It's so disgusted place I won't visit there again.

Roach on floor after we tried to kill it on the bed.

ROACHES. DIRTY. HORRIBLE I'm only giving one star because I have no other choice. I'll start out by saying, I am absolutely not one to come on Yelp and give bad reviews. This situation cannot be ignored and I would HATE for someone to be in the same situation me and my friend found ourselves in tonight. So I booked the room through Expedia. The rating was 3.9 and for around $50 a night I thought that was a great deal. Also, the pictures are highly edited and look nothing like they do in person. I was traveling to El Centro from San Diego ( about a two hour drive) because I had an appointment at the DMV the following morning pretty early. We checked in, went to the room to put our bags in there and take a look around. It was what was expected. Looked decent, definitely had an odor to it but that's nothing I can't deal with. We went to eat and run some errands and returned a few hours later. When we went to turn down the sheets to check for bugs or anything of the sort, two roaches scurried from under the blankets and on to the floor. I have included pictures below as you will see. They are not the best quality because I was obviously shaking from dread, not to mention roaches are pretty fast. Needless to say, we grabbed our stuff and headed to the lobby. We calmly explained what had happened and that we were sorry, but we couldn't stay here. The front desk guy said "okay then leave." I then stated that we would need a refund to which he laughed and responded very rudely "that's not going to happen." I proceeded to tell him I had pictures, ONLY to let him know that he can take a look for himself to which he said "go ahead, post your pictures and give us a bad review I don't care." When I asked again for a refund he told me "absolutely not call Expedia," to which I did. We went back and forth for a while when Expedia told me they were going to call the hotel. The guy at the front desk said he would not answer Expedia. He wound up eventually answering but only to lie to them and tell them we were just trying to "scam" them and get our money back. We tried to explain to them that we were two hours away from home, were hot, tired, and had an early appointment the next morning to which they told us to leave or they would call the police. To which we said "go ahead call them" and apparently this was no big deal to them because in his words, "the police are there all the time." Whatever that means. Look. My friend is a new mom who was doing me a favor by driving me to El Centro. We're not trying to scam anyone out of $50. A bad situation happened and we just wanted the situation corrected. Instead we were met with attitude and inconsiderate, threatening staff. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. Also, although Expedia seemed to try to correct the situation, all they could offer us was a $25 voucher. So after all is said and done, we had to book a room at the Best Western (which is extremely clean with friendly staff.) but we had to pay double what we paid at Crown including the original price at the Crown, as Expedia would also not provide a refund. Please please do not stay here. The only thing suckier than the rooms are the staffs attitudes.

Roach we first spotted on the floor.

DO NOT STAY HERE! WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD AT A MOTEL- EVER! We drove to El Centro for an overnight to take care of some business the next morning. We checked in around 4 and left to run some errands and grab dinner. We got back around 8ish- went to pull down the sheets of the bed, and that's when we spotted the cockroaches - we got dressed and got out of there to ask for a refund. The front desk couple were VERY RUDE- they refused a refund - calling us "scammers" and insinuating we were making all of this up. We never got a refund. We could ignore that the room smelled a "little off"- but to have to leave a room when you are ready for bed because of something like roaches is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable. Apparently we are not the first to complain about roaches according to Yelp- I wish we had read this sooner.

Hole

The Indian man was VERY rude he kept screaming at me waking up the rooms. I went to check out my room. The beds underneath wear stained and the walls had mold the tv did not work the shower floor was black the microwave smelt the chairs wear black and had pee. The blanket had stains along with the sheets. Worst of all there was ..... ROACHES. Don't ever come here and there was holes the rug was ripped. When he was screaming he kept asking for info and not taking the info he asked for while screaming so loud. He was very rude don't ever come here it also smelt very horrible like poop the toilet was stained

This last room was labelled different than all the other rooms with no number on the door. This is the room they gave us.

Judith was there working the desk when we arrived. She was friendly, helpful and accommodating. She got us squared away quickly so we could relax. That evening, Celeste Fuentes came on. She is the bomb! She provided excellent recommendations for local restaurants. Or bathroom sink was running very slow, so we called the desk. She was came up to check out the issue, left and came back with a drain tool. That didn't work and she came back again with a drain cleaning liquid. Apparently the maintenance people were gone for the day, so she was doing everything she could as well as being responsible for the desk. She was answering her portable hotel desk phone while helping us out. Talk about multi-tasking! We were amazed that she had to apparently perform so many jobs, cover main desk duties, maintenance, clean up, security etc. I am not so sure that is a particularly safe practice for a young woman by herself at night. But she managed it like a champ without complaint and all kudos to her. Marriott is lucky to have such dedicated employees.

In El Centro / Calexico there are a variety of cookie cutter hotels with rapidly changing names…read more One year a hotel is under a certain chain name a few years later under another but for the most part there are two tiers of lodging in the area : 1 - A little higher end, like this Holiday Inn. Tier 1. 2 - Lower end, more of the motel variety. Tier 2. What is unfortunate is that lately the Holiday Inn / Hampton Inn hotels are pushing $200. a night (Best Western / Comfort Inn pushing $150.) when hotels like these, in not so touristy locations, one would expect to be more around $120. a night. At the Holiday Inn stayed in what is called a balcony suite, which was actually over $200. a night after taxes and fees. (This "suite" is over $300.! a night some nights.) Not really a suite just a slightly larger room with a sitting area and a balcony that is shared without a barrier duty the adjoining room. Not a bad facility, clean and comfortable with the usual amenities including free wifi. Coffee maker microwave AC flat screen television. Didn't notice any noise while here but the hotel was pretty empty. Pool and jacuzzi. Small very basic fitness facility. Full hot buffet style free breakfast in morning (until 10am weekends, 9:30am weekdays) with egg dishes, sausages, pancakes from a machine, cereals, instant oatmeal, pastries, bagels, toast, fruit, yoghurt, coffee, tea. The front desk doesn't always have someone visible so just announce yourself as the clerk sometimes sits in the back. Service is good and accommodates special requests. Three stars due to being overpriced for the location but probably over all four stars compared to what else is available in town.

The staff throughout my stay was friendly, professional, and courteous. My concerns are with the condition and maintenance of the property. Our room (428) had a significant carpet beetle infestation. There were so many throughout the room that my family and I felt we needed to keep our shoes on at all times. The pool was also one of the dirtiest hotel pools I have encountered. When I asked if there was a pool net available, I was told the hotel did not have one on site. The front desk associate was kind enough to borrow a net from another Marriott, and I ended up cleaning the pool myself because she was the only employee working the front desk. Additionally, the elevator shook noticeably each time it reached a floor before the doors opened, which raised concerns about its condition. I understand the challenges that come with being understaffed, but after spending nearly $1,000 on my stay, I expected a higher standard of cleanliness and maintenance. I chose not to complain during my visit because the staff was doing their best, but I felt it was important to share this feedback so these issues can be addressed. I travel to El Centro regularly, but unfortunately this experience has led me to choose a different hotel for future visits, and I will be directing my team to do the same. Small investments in property upkeep and maintenance go a long way toward earning long-term customer loyalty.
