No art on the walls. Don't know why this room feels so weird.

Okay, check in was super fast and easy. I'll give them that. This is such a strange hotel to me. I know it's a Motel 6, but for some reason when I walked in I was still like. Wtf? It's fine, just kind of odd. Bathroom is HUGE. Handicap accessible, which is awesome. Bed is not comfortable, again. It's a motel 6, but for $150, I would expect a little more comfort. And it's really noisy. I tried to watch tv, but out of all the channels that the dish network said it had, only 3 channels worked. None of which I actually wanted to watch. So, that was awesome. Anyway. This was the cheapest place in town, and it is what it is. EDIT- Woke up in the morning, and the toilet does not flush.

I stay here very frequently I've had mostly alright experiences. Some issues include my keys have totally stopped working the second day. We've had reservation issues. There is no coffee. Decent wifi is $5 but freezes worse than free WiFi. And no maid services but still $70 - 80 a day. The one star is for manger Patrica. I'd give her a negative if I could. She is rude, inconsistent with what the rest of her staff says, and lacks the skill to work in hospitality. She definitely put a sour taste in my mouth and doesn't care that we're regulars that might not come back solely because of her. When I told the front desk they said "yeah she can be like that" why is she the manger then????!! Jose, Jace, Adrian, literally anyone else I've interacted with is nicer and more professional.

Exposed Needle with drugs found under Bed......Looked as though it still had Blood or drugs in it....This Motel 6 is PUKE!!

Where do I start?? My Son currently attending Cal Poly Humboldt started school. Being that this time is the most busy for Arcata due to influx of parents and students we had a hard time finding a room. However, this belly of the beast establishment had a room for almost $200.00. We were only going to spend the night and head back to Southern California the next morning. We we rolled up to our room, there was a party going on next door . The smell of weed and beers cans on the patio were a bit to much for me and my family. I went to the front desk and asked for a new room. The girl at the front desk was kind enough to oblige with that request. So we packed up our stuff and headed to a knew upstairs room. Upon entering this Devils Den, the smell of smoke and Body odor hit me like a Mack truck. I was a bit reluctant to even let my kids enter. Whenever I check into a room ( Especially with the last issues) I double check to make sure everything is in order. The first thing I did is look under the beds. Bed #1 was clear. Bed # 2..............NOT SO MUCH. When I lifted the mattress, there was a syringe full of drugs on the floor..I said, "HELL NO" we are out of here. I get it, the Motel cannot control what people do in the rooms. BUT, they can make sure it is clean for the next guest. With the smell , syringes, and possibility of more syringes, my family and I marched out of there back to the car. I approached the front office, and a younger girl ( who was very nice) called the Manager whom I believe was the owners daughter. She had the nerve to ask me if I was sure? Are you serious? Sure? I told her very sure and if she would like, call the police and have them check it out. Anyways, after those stupid questions, I was refunded my money and we went next door to Days Inn. We got a nice suite for around the same price. It was clean and 500x's better place. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. This was by far the worst experience in the history of MOTEL, HOTEL, Horrible INN! I deserves negative 100 stars...

Pretty bad experience here. But it was a warm, somewhat clean room so I was thankful for that. Upon arriving, I asked to be put in a quiet room and they put me right over where they are doing construction in the morning, lol. But oh well, I could have gotten over that. But what happened next was ridiculous. I came down to Arcata because I had been having some health issues and power went out where I live nearby. Upon paying and checking in (without inspecting the room first, which I usually do, so that was my fault) I turned on the heater and made sure it wouldn't make me wheeze. It had a bad burning smell when it came on and was making some weird sounds and struggling to operate so I decided to leave. This was within 5 minutes upon checking in. Upon going to the office, they had a "return in 15 minutes" sign in the window, so I went around the corner to get gas and clean my car. When I got back they still were not in the office. When they finally came back I told them the situation and requested a refund so I could go to somewhere a little newer. The front desk attendant called her overlord who apparently micromanages everything in his Motel 6 domain, and it came back that it was HSU graduation weekend and they would not do any refunds or some such bullshit, so Cal Poly parents beware, check the room first. I feel like this owner has a general no refund policy aside from his excuses. By the way, there was like 4 cars at 8pm with no sign of filling up. I asked to speak with him in person (he lives there). He came over and looked at me like I was a pos. He claimed by this point I had been there for 45 minutes and would not be refunding my money. Ya right man, you got cameras all over the place and could see I wasn't even on the premises during that supposed 45 minutes, and the time I was there I was waiting out front of the office. I told him about the heater and my health issue and he rudely told me to wait while he went to investigate. I heard him telling the front desk attendant to clean the filter on the heater. Upon coming back he said the heater was fine and said I had used the bed as well because it was made wrong. All I did was pull down the sheet a little to see if it was clean and put it back! Regardless, he said he wouldn't refund money, no matter what, and told me I could leave. I told him I would be writing an unbiased review, to which he responded it was my right and walked away. At this point I was pissed and called the police because I felt robbed, but surprise, they couldn't do anything, although the officer was understanding and gave me some good advice. He said it was this guy's right to not issue refunds but I could take the matter up in civil court. I knew there was nothing I could do at this point so I went back up to see if there really was no smell from the heater as the overlord claimed. When I went back up I noticed weed smell (or cooking from below? I don't know but it wasn't pleasant. Note: the room directly below is the overlord that lives there) and the sink was newly wet from where he had seemingly cleaned the heater filter. Upon lifting the toilet lid I noticed with abhorrent horror there was disgusting dried pee all over the rim and floor surrounding. I hadn't even noticed that before but it had obviously been there a while. I went to my car and got hand sanitizer to clean the entire bathroom and all surfaces. There was a weird blood stain on the bed comforter, that immediately flew into the corner. And the two flat pillows, ah, how sad they were. To top it all off, the room had ONE, and only one depressingly dim light. The lonely soul of a light was in the ceiling. There was no lamps on the wall, bedside stand or anywhere lol. WTH. I mean I know this is a Motel 6 but come on. However, I did noticed the heater didn't produce that nasty smell anymore so figured I might as well try to stay since I was being forced to. I also decided to stay there so they wouldn't try to do something even more shady in my room without me being there and try charge me for it! The cop had warned me he wouldn't give people their deposit back for smoking in there, though they didn't charge me for a deposit (thanks the Lord). I don't smoke anything so saying I smoked in there would have been the last straw and I would have gone to court over that. (Since it did smell like smoke). Fearing such an outcome at this point, I literally went home, got a lamp to use for the night so I could see and it wouldn't be such a depressing dim prison cell, and also some more pillows. It wasn't a great night but it wasn't the worst either. The room smelled fresh, though the bathroom did have that weird smell all night. I kept the bathroom door cracked and the fan on all night and that seemed to help. I didn't have any health issues so that's a plus. The bed was comfortable (with extra pillows). Also the bathroom had black granite countertop and modern sink which I appreciated. Also they had HBO and Showtime

It's right by the airport, but it was surprisingly peaceful. I went on a quick walk around the area and it was actually really nice. Walking inside, you're immediately welcomed into a very pretty Holiday Inn Express--it's clean, bright, and just feels good to be in. They had free cookies and popcorn, plus a little complimentary coffee and hot chocolate bar, which after a long day of driving was genuinely appreciated. The woman who checked me in was wonderful--super kind, long gray hair, just a really pleasant person. She even gave me a room with a small balcony view, which was such a nice bonus after being on the road all day. The room itself was clean, modern, and I had zero issues with it. They also offer a complimentary breakfast buffet, which matters more than people admit--there are hotels that cost more than this and don't even offer that. Holiday Inn Express isn't luxurious, and that's not an insult. It's not trying to be. It's clean, comfortable, reliable, and consistently better than you expect. You go in with low expectations and leave thinking, okay, I get why people swear by this. For what it is, it really punches above its weight, and I'm genuinely glad we stayed here. Thanks!

It was about 40 minutes away from the parks where we wanted to hike. We stayed three nights. The hotel was clean, adjacent to many services, staffed by kind and polite front counter personnel. The beds were comfortable, with four pillows on each of the queen beds. There were plenty of outlets to charge devices. The shower had great pressure, and there were plenty of towels for both of us. There were guests next to us, but we never heard them. We did hear people jumping up and down in the room above us, but I can't fault the hotel for that.... We did not eat the free breakfast here, but it looked tasty and there were enough options to satisfy us if we had chosen to eat here. We brought our own food. Parking was free and close to our room.

We booked through a third party and were NOT warned that the hotel is undergoing MAJOR remodeling, top to bottom, end to end. I was not even informed by hotel staff, when I called ahead for confirmation that our room would be in a quiet area of the hotel. When we arrived, the lobby was filled with scaffolding sitting on cement floors, electricians, tile setters, carpet installers, and other construction workers. We felt sorry for the receptionists sitting at their folding table, explaining that the construction activity would start between 9 & 10 AM and end late afternoon. (It did NOT. The noise and banging started at 7:30 AM and one night, continued until past 10:30 PM when I called the front desk.) Before checking in, we WERE allowed to look at our room, which was efficient, large, newly refurbished, clean, and quiet (while we were looking at the room). The typical chain-hotel breakfast was offered, while workers were moving large rolls of carpeting around and through the room. Trays were provided to take breakfasts back to the room, as there was no seating in the lobby or breakfast area. So! If you're considering a stay at this hotel, call ahead and ask if ALL remodeling is completed, unless you don't mind a stay in a construction zone.

It is walking distance to restaurants, coffee, shops, and bars It is walking distance to lovely hikes in the redwoods and walks along the arcata Marsh. There are Airbnb's in the area, which I may try one day, who knows There are other hotels that are really close by car. Either two exits north or about 10 minutes south in Eureka. I chose this because of location It is over 100 years old Although some may say it needs updating, I think it's kept some of the old charm yet the beds are comfortable. The rooms are clean and the service is spectacular. Everybody who works here is extremely kind No, you're not getting a five diamond resort, which I do prefer. I generally stay at higher end Marriott properties, but that is not an option in this town. I see people saying negative things about noise and homeless. As far as that goes, I've been lucky enough to have rooms facing inside versus the street so noise has not been an issue. The walls are not them, but the gaps under the doors and the thin windows are a factor. Yes they are homeless but they're different from what I see in Southern California down here. The homeless are scary in Arcata. The homeless are fun and interesting to talk to and super kind. I do park my car outside on the street and while I usually am afraid that something will happen in my car I'm not afraid here. Yes, they have a breakfast that's included, but really don't waste your time. I tried it one day thought about trying at the second day and then decided to find somewhere else to eat. Take a chance You will either hate it or love it

I lived in Arcata for many years and have visited a lot in the last 25 and always have chosen to…read morestay at the Hotel Arcata mainly because of its central location and the claw foot bathtubs. Unfortunately, due to my most recent experience being so awful, I will never return and I also strongly urge you to find another option for yourself. To start I had booked a room for my friend and I for 3 nights. It was a room with a queen bed and an office space which they say on their own website there's room for a rollaway bed. I made sure to contact the hotel the morning of our arrival and requested a rollaway bed. We arrived that evening and checked in without a hitch. I'm well familiar with the challenging parking situation and that the plaza gets a bit rowdy so those things weren't an issue for us. When we get to the room there is no rollaway, ok, a bit annoying but the young woman at the front desk was super nice and told us she would get it and set it up. Cool. We went to get some food at Don's and I was looking forward to taking a nice hot bath when we returned. When I turned on the hot water I got only cold, I tried running sink trying to get it but the sink wouldn't drain properly so I kept having to turn it off. Back to the tub, I ran it for an excessively long amount of time and still no hot water so I gave up and retired to my rollaway bed. The one they provided me must have previously been a trampoline for a caffeinated 5 year old, it was shaped weird and very uncomfortable and I felt like I was in a taco. Also the boilers (aka radiators) made crazy sounds all night and while we went to bed freezing we both woke up in the middle of the night to an extremely uncomfortably hot situation. Even with all this, we didn't complain and we're going to sit out our three day stay. However, in the early afternoon of the third day while I was sleeping, my friend who has breast cancer, was preparing some marijuana cigarettes for us to enjoy later that day, unfortunately she needed a plunger for the toilet and she called the front the man who arrived was not friendly at all, she told him she would do the plunging (since I was sleeping on the rollaway right next to the bathroom) and he abruptly informed her that if we got caught smoking weed, we would be charged $500. She told him ok. Once again, we were NOT smoking weed, we had purchased some locally and also had devices to partake of it. I guess the man, we'll call him Charles, saw or smelled something and just assumed because less than 10 minutes later we got a phone call from the front desk telling us that we will not be charged, but we had one hour to vacate the premises. I asked to speak to the manager, named Sherri and she was supposedly unavailable for that entire hour while we now had to pack up all of our stuff and find a new place and also wait out the fact that this happened before standard check in times so we had our entire car packed back up and had to wait over an hour before we could check into our new (much better) location at an Airbnb 2 blocks away. We also had reservations at Larapin Café for 5 o'clock, but since this happened at around two, it left us not enough time and so we had to reschedule our dinner reservation which was very inconvenient because we were also attending an event I had paid for at Richards Goat Tavern which we now had to miss in favor of our dinner reservation. Pretty unbelievable seeing as the hotel is located in Arcata and its reputation for the wacky Tabaccy... also the cherry on top being that upon walking out of the establishment we were greeted by a massive cloud of pot smoke lol. I would've welcomed an adult conversation with either Charles or Sherri but apparently both of them are cowards who would rather let the front desk people do their dirty work. Also worth mentioning is Charles brings his daughter to work and allows her to roll full body down the ONLY staircase as people are trying to come and go. I hope his low wage position is worth him ruining someone's plans without a reason. As for Sherri, I invite you to read the many negative reviews she has received via google and how unprofessionally she responds to them. BUT, If you like cold showers, no refrigerator, no hair dryer, uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, noisy neighbors, being aggressively panhandled, the smell of weed and rude management, the Hotel Arcata is definitely your place.
