The Nuvo Hotel & Suites is not your typical hotel experience. And I mean that in every positive way…read morepossible. The hotel is located right in downtown Calgary, within walking distance from all the amenities we needed (truth be told, that included the shopping market and a liquor store, but I'm sure your mileage will vary). It earns its designation as a Boutique Hotel from its unique design. The hotel was originally an apartment (condo?) building and converted to nightly suites. What does this mean? It means that each suite is laid out as NOT-hotel-eque as you can get; specifically: they have a full (and pots, pans, dishes & cutlery stocked-) kitchen, in-suite laundry washer/dryer, dishwasher and beautiful open design. I could go on and on about how amazing the room looked (and how wonderful the in-floor heating felt), but I just cannot get over the in-suite kitchen. I had no idea how much of a difference that makes when staying somewhere; a huge chunk of the cost of travelling is having to eat out for every single meal. At the Nuvo, you have a Safeway right across the street and the freedom to cook whatever you want to eat right in your own room. The bed's were amazing, each room has its own little balcony (not much of a view...but nice enough to sit on and enjoy the sounds of downtown & fresh air) and we have spent a considerable amount of time hunting for whatever pillows they use there - they're that comfortable. All of this, and their prices are still affordable. They cost more than a typical Super 8, but it's worth it for the décor alone. We managed to get a good deal, and combined with taking advantage of the kitchen, what you save in eating out could easily put them at the same price as any generic hotel chain. The only trouble we had was checking in after hours - we were given the wrong door code. We managed to get a hold of someone who gave us the right code; and we were good to go from there. So if you are checking in after-hours, double check you have both the outer door code AND your room door code. That hiccup aside, the Nuvo is still the only hotel I'll stay at in Calgary.

You had to swipe your card to pick your level. If there are 5 diff card holders in that elevator, you can't swipe fast enough and your level gets skipped and you have to enjoy the ride back down and up to your room again. Another thing I have to mention is the parking garage. Has a sign about turning at your own risk basically. The turn is so tight, my friend ended up scraping her car. So we all parked outside from then on. Overall it was an okay stay, the pool was the main thing that was worth it. BUT I forgot to mention, a lot of sport teams book here because of the pool. At 10 pm to 11 pm there were kids running around the hall banging on the doors. No one keeping an eye on them.

I'm obsessed with their invigor - mint shampoo and body wash by Skoah (a discontinued line but only available at partnered hotels). They also have free self parking lots underground and above ground surface lots. They are located close by Calgary Tower and are near plenty of restaurants and bars around the downtown area. H mart is only about 2 blocks over if you want Asian groceries. I also just read that they give complimentary bikes rentals on their website, which is amazing! The only con was that you have to reserve pool time and it's a $10 fee per person if you don't show up. It's a small pool and is just under 5 feet. They reserve a seating area for you, which is very nice but made it difficult to plan your day especially having 2 kids under 3yo.

It was indoor and had a lot of chairs to lay on. There was free continental breakfast, but I was not a fan of it. The chicken sausage was overcooked and almost burnt. Eggs and potato lacked flavor.

They do have a main restaurant that looks updated. I got a std room for $97 US and feel I got more than my money's worth. If this locale works for you, I would recommend it.

Went back to front desk who had no clue, duty manager goes to restaurant manager and comes back saying we can allow you to have the buffet set up for the hockey team which was 3 items only or the 1 item from à la carte. Oh and you can do very little for the temperature in the room as they pick whether it's heat or cold and when it's hovering around 0 cold air blowing didn't feel very nice even though it barely blows. I've never had a hotel where you can't choose the temperature of the air blowing and over the years I've stayed many hotels including the Blackfoot many times despite the temperature issues but never again

I'm used to Delta's, Marriott's and Sheraton's. this place is like none of the above even tho it is by Sheraton. The thing is... If I only stayed here one time in Calgary my opinion of this City would be completely different than what it is as I've been here before and stayed at the Marriott downtown. We received a wonderful gift upon arrival with absolutely wonderful truffles and a great note. The M room for executive level is amazing, as it is on the 15th floor and has wonderful views of the city from outside. Could not ask for a better area to have a drink! They had our car ready early in the morning, which was so helpful for getting to the airport. Would highly recommend this hotel and will stay here in the future.
