I cannot describe how much I love Brighton Beach, and also how simultaneously intimidated I am to speak Russian to... well, actual Russian people. My accent is horrendous! But at least I could tell my friend what all the crazy toys in were inside of Detskiy Mir - my favourite being the "paint your own saint" wooden figures. This place is amazing, seriously. It has something for everyone, from illustrated Chekov' kids books to talking stuffed animals to the simple notebooks I purchased with Russian insignia on them. The staff is friendly if you understand Russian culture and customs (never hand your money to a Russian, just saying. Put it on the counter). I know my friend loved this place, and I cannot express properly in words how very happy it makes me to be in any kind of Russian store. Eta byla tak horosho!! :D

Wonderfully beautifully classy 'n' classical…read more _______________________________________________ I hadn't seen cobalt/gzhel in the long while, since I was seven, methinks, -- and was very-so glad to gaze at it at the store, having ordered this coffee/tea cups then (since such the goods must be delivered -- a safety, I don't pass that area down, otherwise I would take a car service, certainly), -- that is a bday gift for my German-relative (München, DEU), -- for he, never, saw it alive, and never had *that*, -- he has been astonished out of "Beauty and uniqueness"! -- in his opinion, to be honest. As marvellous, smooth, touchable, gentle/tender so, and classy, as I can remember... This set is this wondrous, it's not costly, and worthwhile of one's money - most of all, -- I am thanking "Saint Petersburg" store. The boxes with the cups and saucers are extremely tightly closed, densely so -- the box with my products would've, simply, been completely torn apart, if I did consider opening them up; therefore, that's why I'm not gonna show you any photographs of my uncle's gifts, -- also this is done in sake of safety reasons, -- accordingly to the sellers. At ruskniga.com -- from where I ordered this stuff and as usual other things else -- the cobalt and gzhel (flower) -- both are from "Enchantress" series.

When Italy won the World Cup in 2006 this was one of the central meeting points for rabid fans! You can get Italian anything, Cassettes, CD's Vinyl, movies you name it. It's also a gift shop with tons of italian t-shirts. If you enjoy nostalgia you should visit this store before it is gone, it's one of the few Italian stores left in the neighborhood.

Along with other Italian knickknacks and coffee makers. I managed to find a cd I was looking for and ended buying another that they were playing. Fine and good. I walked out satisfied...at least until I was halfway back home. The cds looked a bit "off". I didn't realize it in the store because I guess I was in a rush. Dreading the worst I unwrapped the CDs and my disappointment was confirmed. They were counterfeit. The "booklet" was just a folded glossy paper with no pages on the inside. The top of the disc was a poorly designed knock-off. Sure the CDs worked, but fake? That's messed up. SAS is located deep in Brooklyn just a few stops shy of Coney Island. If you're in Manhattan, it's a journey. I would give the place one star but since this was my first (and will quite possibly be my last) trip there, I don't know the shop enough to accuse their entire merchandise as counterfeit. So benefit of the doubt. If you decide to check it out, just take a close look at what you're buying. Don't get ripped off.
