I stumbled across the Crystal Dragon that had, by far and away, the best selection of unique and original gemstone jewelry and, important to me, a substantial selection of turquoise varieties from several mines. Geoff, the owner and resident artisan, worked with me to choose a stone and design a setting and band. This intimate unique and creative process was exactly the experience I wanted. When my ring arrived via USPS just a few weeks later, I was blown away! It was EXACTLY what I wanted and fit perfectly. I love my one-of-a kind creation!

For me, the main attraction is the selection of unpolished rocks and geodes- jade, amethyst, gem-grade turquoise, kyanite, quartz, and more, including tiny coral branches that you pay for by the ounce. June 4, 2023 - Casa Grande Trading Post, (Cerillos, NM) We…read morestopped in here on a Sunday afternoon after a reconnaissance mission to check out the Cerillos Hills State Park (which does not have a Yelp presence). Looks like there are some good hiking and mountain bike trails there. There is also an outfitter nearby where they do guided horseback rides. We had been here a couple years ago after having lunch at the Black Bird Cafe in town, a good spot for burgers and a beer. The trading post has lots of turquoise and copper related rocks and more glass pin electric wire insulators than you could ever imagine. Glass pin insulators were used to insulate electric line and telegraph line wires from support structures that hold them off the ground. The period from 1875 to 1930 might generally be thought of as the "heyday" of the glass insulator. Hundreds of millions of these glass "bells" were produced during this time. Thay also have a small animal pen at the Trading Post that has a llama, goats, and various birds. You can buy feed in the store for $4 to feed to the animals. There is a viewing area just outside the Trading Post where you can check out the nearby riverbed an a few rock formations in the distance.

Despite me being young and having a relatively unexciting and inexpensive request I was still met with respect and attention which I really appreciated. Lonnie himself helped me with my pieces. His work on display was beautiful. The experience was nice enough that I will consider coming here in the future for larger projects and definitely will be back for repairs in the future if needed.
