Lunch at Glebe Point Diner is flawless…read more I've long been hearing rave reviews about this restaurant and finally made it there recently for lunch with my family. The dining room itself was a lot more casual than expected, but modern and inviting nonetheless with green leather banquettes, high ceilings and an open kitchen. Service was efficient yet friendly, our waitress describing their specials in detail and encouraging a shared starter of twice-baked gruyere soufflé with rocket side salad (great tip!). Main courses were just as delicious - I sampled a grilled snapper fillet atop finely sliced fennel, sautéed down into a slightly sweet yet aniseed sauce with fresh peas and baby steamed clams, while the scotch fillet also came to the table smothered in creamy caramelised onion, a million layered potato galette and well-seasoned witled silverbeet. Dessert was simple but offered pretty generous portion sizes - we tried the rhubarb frangipane tart and chocolate parfait with macerated strawberries - but I liked that their menu also offered petit fours at $2.50 a pop if you only felt like a little mouthful of something sweet (the spiced marshmallow, a particularly tempting offer).

The food does not disappoint, with the finest and freshest ingredients being used in an eclectic fusion of flavours. The gnocchi, spun so light, it melted onto the tongue, left a smouldering film of deliciousness. The special, a corned beef sandwich, was a unique take on what is in my estimation only ever attainable in New York or some of the eastern states of America and was a delectable surprise! Desert, accompanied by perfect coffees, was the perfect end, to a seamlessly delicious meal.

This place is A-OK for an airport, readymade sushi spot. Tasty rolls ready to roll with you. That…read morewould garner them 3 stars, but.... ....just watch out; during the evening, they make boxes of sushi and sell them for less than 50% of the regular price. Don't get caught in the crossfire, as I did; I could see the woman boxing up sushi--that I WANTED--and then she claimed they were "out." As I passed by later--only 10 minutes later--the boxes were re-presented at less than half off. While it was a good deal to begin with, I felt a tad cheated and lied to. They were not "out" of the dragon roll, it was just about to be sold for a massive discount. Since I didn't know this, they were quite happy to sell me a selection of the dregs at full price. LAME.

The restaurant looks renovated with new bathrooms, a beautiful windowed area at the back and some new touches at the front of the restaurant. I ordered penne for my dinner. My father ordered gnocchi with cream. Like I mentioned before the food was delicious. The only minor downside is to get to the back and front area you have to walk through a small space which is wide enough for only one person. This also happens when walking to the bathroom from the front. But when moving through employees always let you through first. Overall Excellent

Coffees took 25+ minutes and when I asked if they'd been forgotten, the waitress gave me a condescending talking to, like I was unnecessarily harassing her. When the coffee arrived, it was curdled. Some sort of secret Fight Club-esque uppercut amongst lovers of extra spicy things I imagine. I think he's right because the spicy wings I had, while covered in chilli powder, were not by any means spicy. However, they were delicious. I ordered one of each 6 chicken flavours and got my hands dirty eating each. The honey soy was sweet and homely while the black pepper offered a kick closest in the direction I was searching. There are two wings per skewer and I found the 6 skewers was filling enough when combined with a bowl of BBQ meat rice. Service was let down by waitstaff who seemed more interested in their mobile phones than customers. There was only one or two other parties at most during the Saturday lunch time I was there and I think disinterested staff meant the wait time for food was unnecessarily long. I'll be back for more wings, this time equipped with the Chinese characters of what I need to ask for to get the spiciest of wings.
