I've been attending Mosaic Hollywood & Pasadena for about four years. My family and I mainly go for Pastor Erwin's messages and the quality worship. Pastor Erwin has a unique ability to connect with new Christians, and his talks on resilience and strength are especially powerful in a world where people desperately need Jesus and encouragement. I've always valued and supported his perspective. That said, some moments in history call for more than the usual approach. Today, following the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, was one of those moments. Mosaic has long avoided politics, likely to fit the Los Angeles demographic, and I've respected that. Sundays can be a welcome break from the constant political noise. But today was not the day to stay silent or play it safe. Instead of acknowledging Charlie's loss, offering a prayer for his family, or taking even a moment of silence, Pastor Erwin used the platform to repeatedly call him "annoying." Erwin also suggested that Charlie "hated the word empathy," a statement that was not only taken out of context but misleading. In truth, Charlie preferred the word "sympathy" over "empathy", a meaningful distinction that was conveniently omitted. Having spent time over the past few days watching Charlie's debates and speeches, I've seen that he consistently stood for freedom of religion, separation of church and state, and freedom of speech. His faith informed his personal convictions, but Erwin mischaracterized this as using religion for political purposes. The truth is that Charlie was braver than most of us, including myself and, I believe, Erwin. He deserved fair representation, not dismissal. I did appreciate Erwin's statement that Mosaic exists for people who aren't Libertarian or Conservative so they, too, can find a place to learn about Jesus. That is a worthy mission. But I can't help asking, where do Libertarians and Conservatives in this city find a spiritual home when churches like Mosaic distance themselves from their voices? For me, the refusal to pray for Charlie's family, to acknowledge any of his contributions, and instead to call him "annoying" days after his death was disheartening. His passing has been a wake-up call for me. I've decided to be braver in my faith and convictions. My hope is that Mosaic will choose bravery, too.

Looking for a Church where you feel welcomed from the moment you get into the parking lot?…read more Searching for a Spiritual Family that accepts you and meets you where you are? Lake Ave Church is a large congregation with a family feel. There are lots of options and ministries to meet your needs: children, teens, young adults, parents, grandparents, seniors, missions, music, etc. They have a ministry for brothers and sisters with different abilities, for those who went through divorce and for those going through illnesses... They support partnered projects to fight human trafficking, homelessness and all those affected by the recent fires. This Church is committed to open the doors to the most in need and serve like Jesus did. English, Spanish and Mandarin groups are available. Come to the service as you are, and find brothers and sisters who are willing to walk with you in this journey. Jesus is the center of worship, and the Word is shared in a way that invites deep reflection and the Holy Spirit's revelation. The Team of Pastors complement each other with their gifts to care, encourage and teach the congregation with transparency and genuine love that is felt in tangible ways. For me, it was the offering to pray for me, supporting me with therapy through partnered professional counseling, welcoming my daughter to serve with me because I didn't have childcare at home, equipping me with deep truths through solid retreats and Bible study, and that biweekly call I receive from a Pastor to check in with me. This has been a healing and growing place where God is surrounding me and my family with love and challenging me to live with the cross and with Jesus's Joy and Hope everyday. Life is certainly not an easy journey, but with God and a Church Family like Lake Ave Church, I feel blessed along the way and embraced with prayers when I go through hardships. If God is talking to you and you don't know where to start, come join Lake Ave Church on Sunday at 9.30am (any weekend) or Wednesday at 6.30pm (beginning 1/14/2026) and let God begin shining His light in you. Do not be intimidated by the size of the Church. Any and all staff are here for you. Just feel free to approach one (any, from the person guiding you at the parking lot to the people you see greeting or in the Welcome Center) and mention your needs. Lake Ave Church is passionate above connecting you to a community, and most importantly, to Jesus, who brings Peace and Healing to your Life!

The people are what make the Church what it is and I give them credit for always setting up and doing all they do for Sunday Service. There is even coffee and waters available for free every Sunday. Although the Church does not have the bells and whistles , the Message is bible focused and the people are very welcoming. The Word is spoken here and is constantly put first, and the message of the Services are ones I take with me every week. Giving is optional and never forced , in fact we pray before every offering and reference the bible before every giving which is nice. I very much look forward to the Sunday services given from Pastor Michael but also love how they bring in other Pastors to speak from time to time who are just as amazing. I hope to get more involved soon and the Church makes it feel possible and not pressured, it's actually coming from me which would have never happened if I didn't come here. The Church has a welcoming " next steps " program , multiple different groups, and is always encouraging the people of the community to grow in their Faith together. It makes me feel like home and although I am not actively involved yet, I know if I continue coming , I will be one day.
