Their motto is "Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome to be here, just as you are." They are not looking to convert you by any means, but instead, love you for who you are. Whether you are attending a regular service or a special holiday service, All Saints puts all their efforts to create a powerful service. The music is top notch (multiple choirs, award-winning organist, professional soloists), the sermons are relevant, and there are many resources for whatever you may be in need of (counseling, forums, children's programs). They are also very active in social justice, which is just one of the ways they put their faith into action. All Saints is a church like none other. I always leave a service feeling full, hopeful, and loved. I hope whoever is reading this can experience the same! Come by and see for yourself! :)

Maybe it's nostalgia, but I think this church went downhill after Reverend Ed Bacon retired -- back when it was definitely political, but still had a personable/welcoming environment and services were theologically rooted. Attempting to look "radically inclusive", they now use a multilingual liturgy full of New Age-y concoctions that is clunky, awkward to follow, and (speaking as a person of color) kind of patronizing. Sure, Episcopal worship styles range in formality from the casual low church to the ceremonial Anglo-Catholic. But, is all the hollering, shouting, and **standing ovations** at the mention of Democrats and progressive policies necessary??? ‍ Doesn't take a theologian to know that's not part of the Rite II rubrics. So this is not your typical Episcopal church; it often doesn't feel like a church at all (worship-wise). To be fair, All Saints still does wonderful things in the community. This time, I'd say... it's more of a place to pat yourself on the back. You can conduct your own socio-political analysis of this phenomenon...

I love this church. It's charming, it's cozy, it's casual, it's friendly, it's real. Most in the congregation show up in jeans and t-shirts; a few others enjoy dressing up a little more, but it's truly a "come as you are" kind of place. Prism borrows their worship space from the Chapel of Roses, a beautiful vintage (if ever-so-slightly quirky) wedding chapel. As you come in the door, you can expect a genuinely friendly welcome (without any of that awkward "you're a stranger here" kind of weirdness; you know what I mean?), and usually they have coffee and treats out for everyone to enjoy. During service, you won't find a basket being passed for tithing; here, giving money to God is seen not as a "random act of guilt" under pressure, but a very personal act of worship between Christian and Creator. Hence, they just have a couple of boxes at the front and back of the church for receiving donations when the tither sees fit. Likewise, communion is also treated as a more personal activity; rather than going up systematically by rows, you can wander up to the communion table any time during the "response time" of music after the sermon (though it makes for some amusing traffic patterns sometimes, lol). I like this, because I often feel the need to just sit and pray--or pour my heart out with the music--right after Pastor Chuck's messages, and it's nice not to have to keep an eye on whether it's my row's turn to haul ourselves out of our seats. The youngest churchgoers are cheerfully cared for in the toddler playroom; the preschool set get to play and learn Bible stories in a comfortable upstairs room; and the older kids usually get to head out to enjoy their lessons in a shady spot in the courtyard (when the weather allows). Since the congregation is small, the kids get plenty of personalized attention; and you'll often see Pastor Chuck call out the kids' names and greet them with a big bear hug as they arrive with their families. Pastor Chuck's real heart is for those who have turned away from church life because of bad experiences, or because they never felt like they fit in. Here, you won't find any "us vs. them" or "holier-than-thou" messages in the sermons. In fact, you're much more likely to hear humble confessions of how the Christian church has sometimes failed to live up to its purposes, or even jaw-dropping tales of the pastor's own youthful misadventures (oh, my). The constant undercurrent is that we're all a work in progress, and that God doesn't let go of His love for us no matter what we do. There's a lot of laughter here, mixed with solid teachings from the scriptures and a true passion for our hope in Christ. I almost thought about giving Prism Church four stars instead of five, because this church is still in its infancy and hasn't yet worked its way up to some of the ingredients and extras that some might expect from more established churches. For example, at this moment, they have no middle-school ministry because there are simply no middle-schoolers to be found there. That will change within the coming years. In the meantime, they do a beautiful job with the resources they have, creating a genuinely welcoming community that will leave you inspired and refreshed. If you're looking for a big fancy place with all the bells and whistles, wait a few years; Prism's not there yet. On the other hand, if you're looking for a place where fun counts, your presence matters, and your talents and service can make a huge difference, this is your golden opportunity. If you're not so sure about this weird Christianity thing, and you're only just dabbling in the possibilities, don't worry; these people won't scare you away. If you've been bruised by churches in the past, and have stayed away for awhile, welcome home. This just might be what you've been looking for. --Oh--final note on parking--the lot behind the Chapel is very very small, but they've partnered with the lot directly across the street, so there's plenty of free parking there.

I've been…read morea Christian for over 18 years, and having moved across the United States a few times, I've had the chance to be involved in, volunteer for, and actively participate in several different churches in each city I've lived in. My experience with Vintage Church Pasadena was, for the most part, a normal and decent one: I attended the newcomers' breakfast, joined multiple events including a young adults' Bible study, and found most of the leadership, volunteers, and congregants to be genuinely kind people. It's a normal church, with the normal mix of good and less-good people you'd find anywhere. During the World Cup this past June, the church's worship pastor created a group chat for members interested in following the tournament and hosting watch parties. I joined the chat but rarely participated beyond occasional emoji reactions, and never attended a watch party in person since I didn't know him well. Partway through the tournament, he messaged me directly, out of nowhere, with a noticeably curt tone, asking whether I actually attended the church and which service I went to. When I answered warmly and even mentioned enjoying a recent Bible study, he simply stopped responding. The actual groupchat itself had a lot of good-natured sports banter back and forth, which I want to be clear I had no issue with. I was right there in the mix, teasing back just as much, and everyone seemed to be enjoying it, myself included. That changed after the Argentina-England semifinal. I posted a picture of a soccer play from the match. Without warning or explanation, the worship pastor deleted my post and removed me from the group chat entirely, with no conversation and no reason given. To his credit, he also deleted a video another member had posted of Argentine fans celebrating, so his censorship wasn't aimed at me personally, it was aimed at any pro-Argentina content, regardless of who posted it. But I was the only person removed from the group altogether, despite not being the one who escalated anything. Another member of that chat, who was following the exchange and wasn't even on my side of the banter (he also didn't want Argentina to win), told me afterward that he thought the pastor's reaction was "a bit harsh." Also, no one else on the group chat complained about me, except for the worship pastor that was put in charge of it. I reported the incident to a staff member, via email, so it could be addressed by leadership. She later called me and we spoke over the phone for about 20 minutes, and to her credit, she listened closely and asked thoughtful questions to understand the full picture; she seemed genuinely taken aback by how the pastor had handled it. That call was on a Thursday, and as of writing this, two weeks later, I haven't received any follow-up. For context, this will be my very first 1-star review for a church, and 5th 1-star review for any business as a whole, out of more than 480 reviews I've written in over 7 years of regularly reviewing businesses. I don't do this lightly. Please feel free to see all of my other reviews on this platform. I'm the furthest thing from a serial complainer and just basic human decency gets you 5 stars from me. I also want to be clear that I didn't rush to write this. I reported the incident internally first and genuinely intended to let it be handled through proper channels rather than posting anything public. It has now been two weeks and I still haven't heard back from the church. If that changes, I'll update this review accordingly. UPDATE: Added the picture in question that got me kicked out of the church groupchat (Messi with 3 English defenders). Adding some extra context: They did reach back 3 weeks after I had reported the incident, mostly because they saw this review go public and wanted to "put out the fire" so to speak. Throughout the email and phone exchange, they seemed more concerned with protecting the image of the church, by getting me to delete this review, rather than actually bringing correction to the leader in question. Even their "response" to this review reflects that mentality, by fabricating that lie on the spot that I was removed supposedly "... after multiple complaints were made about you by other members of the group." A church that fails to hold their own leaders accountable, especially when said leader is power tripping, is not a church that any healthy and mature Christian should want to be a part of. Also, uncontrolled hostility is a strong indicator of cardiovascular risk, so he should probably be mindful of that. Anyways, I'll close this by leaving an excerpt from my last email to them: "Football isn't what gives my life meaning and I take it just as a hobby, regardless of who wins or loses. My goal is to make new connections and new friends. It would be great for Tom to approach it the same way."
