Prism rents space from the Chapel of Roses (wedding space), so you'll only see the "Prism Church" sign out during service times.

Sorry for the ultra-long review; but when I see that a place I love hasn't been spoken up for yet, I always feel like I have to fill in all the juicy details...so here goes. I love this church. It's charming, it's cozy, it's casual, it's friendly, it's real. Most in the congregation show up in jeans and t-shirts; a few others enjoy dressing up a little more, but it's truly a "come as you are" kind of place. Prism borrows their worship space from the Chapel of Roses, a beautiful vintage (if ever-so-slightly quirky) wedding chapel. As you come in the door, you can expect a genuinely friendly welcome (without any of that awkward "you're a stranger here" kind of weirdness; you know what I mean?), and usually they have coffee and treats out for everyone to enjoy. During service, you won't find a basket being passed for tithing; here, giving money to God is seen not as a "random act of guilt" under pressure, but a very personal act of worship between Christian and Creator. Hence, they just have a couple of boxes at the front and back of the church for receiving donations when the tither sees fit. Likewise, communion is also treated as a more personal activity; rather than going up systematically by rows, you can wander up to the communion table any time during the "response time" of music after the sermon (though it makes for some amusing traffic patterns sometimes, lol). I like this, because I often feel the need to just sit and pray--or pour my heart out with the music--right after Pastor Chuck's messages, and it's nice not to have to keep an eye on whether it's my row's turn to haul ourselves out of our seats. The youngest churchgoers are cheerfully cared for in the toddler playroom; the preschool set get to play and learn Bible stories in a comfortable upstairs room; and the older kids usually get to head out to enjoy their lessons in a shady spot in the courtyard (when the weather allows). Since the congregation is small, the kids get plenty of personalized attention; and you'll often see Pastor Chuck call out the kids' names and greet them with a big bear hug as they arrive with their families. Pastor Chuck's real heart is for those who have turned away from church life because of bad experiences, or because they never felt like they fit in. Here, you won't find any "us vs. them" or "holier-than-thou" messages in the sermons. In fact, you're much more likely to hear humble confessions of how the Christian church has sometimes failed to live up to its purposes, or even jaw-dropping tales of the pastor's own youthful misadventures (oh, my). The constant undercurrent is that we're all a work in progress, and that God doesn't let go of His love for us no matter what we do. There's a lot of laughter here, mixed with solid teachings from the scriptures and a true passion for our hope in Christ. I almost thought about giving Prism Church four stars instead of five, because this church is still in its infancy and hasn't yet worked its way up to some of the ingredients and extras that some might expect from more established churches. For example, at this moment, they have no middle-school ministry because there are simply no middle-schoolers to be found there. That will change within the coming years. In the meantime, they do a beautiful job with the resources they have, creating a genuinely welcoming community that will leave you inspired and refreshed. If you're looking for a big fancy place with all the bells and whistles, wait a few years; Prism's not there yet. On the other hand, if you're looking for a place where fun counts, your presence matters, and your talents and service can make a huge difference, this is your golden opportunity. If you're not so sure about this weird Christianity thing, and you're only just dabbling in the possibilities, don't worry; these people won't scare you away. If you've been bruised by churches in the past, and have stayed away for awhile, welcome home. This just might be what you've been looking for. --Oh--final note on parking--the lot behind the Chapel is very very small, but they've partnered with the lot directly across the street, so there's plenty of free parking there.

The people are what make the Church what it is and I give them credit for always setting up and doing all they do for Sunday Service. There is even coffee and waters available for free every Sunday. Although the Church does not have the bells and whistles , the Message is bible focused and the people are very welcoming. The Word is spoken here and is constantly put first, and the message of the Services are ones I take with me every week. Giving is optional and never forced , in fact we pray before every offering and reference the bible before every giving which is nice. I very much look forward to the Sunday services given from Pastor Michael but also love how they bring in other Pastors to speak from time to time who are just as amazing. I hope to get more involved soon and the Church makes it feel possible and not pressured, it's actually coming from me which would have never happened if I didn't come here. The Church has a welcoming " next steps " program , multiple different groups, and is always encouraging the people of the community to grow in their Faith together. It makes me feel like home and although I am not actively involved yet, I know if I continue coming , I will be one day.

Looking for a Church where you feel welcomed from the moment you get into the parking lot?…read more Searching for a Spiritual Family that accepts you and meets you where you are? Lake Ave Church is a large congregation with a family feel. There are lots of options and ministries to meet your needs: children, teens, young adults, parents, grandparents, seniors, missions, music, etc. They have a ministry for brothers and sisters with different abilities, for those who went through divorce and for those going through illnesses... They support partnered projects to fight human trafficking, homelessness and all those affected by the recent fires. This Church is committed to open the doors to the most in need and serve like Jesus did. English, Spanish and Mandarin groups are available. Come to the service as you are, and find brothers and sisters who are willing to walk with you in this journey. Jesus is the center of worship, and the Word is shared in a way that invites deep reflection and the Holy Spirit's revelation. The Team of Pastors complement each other with their gifts to care, encourage and teach the congregation with transparency and genuine love that is felt in tangible ways. For me, it was the offering to pray for me, supporting me with therapy through partnered professional counseling, welcoming my daughter to serve with me because I didn't have childcare at home, equipping me with deep truths through solid retreats and Bible study, and that biweekly call I receive from a Pastor to check in with me. This has been a healing and growing place where God is surrounding me and my family with love and challenging me to live with the cross and with Jesus's Joy and Hope everyday. Life is certainly not an easy journey, but with God and a Church Family like Lake Ave Church, I feel blessed along the way and embraced with prayers when I go through hardships. If God is talking to you and you don't know where to start, come join Lake Ave Church on Sunday at 9.30am (any weekend) or Wednesday at 6.30pm (beginning 1/14/2026) and let God begin shining His light in you. Do not be intimidated by the size of the Church. Any and all staff are here for you. Just feel free to approach one (any, from the person guiding you at the parking lot to the people you see greeting or in the Welcome Center) and mention your needs. Lake Ave Church is passionate above connecting you to a community, and most importantly, to Jesus, who brings Peace and Healing to your Life!

This church has been a true blessing to the community of Pasadena and surrounding cities. In an era…read morewhere 2/3 of American senior pastors no longer hold a Biblical worldview, we need bold, God-fearing Christian pastors more than ever. Pastor Xavier preaches and teaches the living, breathing word of God. He does not water down the gospel like many other pastors do. He teaches the Bible verses line-by-line, the way all pastors should be preaching. How else are you going to understand the Bible if you cherry pick verses or bounce around from book-to-book? Pastor Xavier also preaches with spiritual discernment. He believes that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. He does not sugar coat controversial topics. He backs every argument with Scripture. I have been to other churches throughout Pasadena and I never felt that my faith grew. All I wanted was to hear Biblical truth. Many pastors are afraid of preaching Biblical truth because they don't want to ruffle feathers within their congregation. After attending Calvary Chapel Pasadena, my Biblical knowledge and faith always grew every single time I attended church. It is a real blessing. Moreover it is a command that your faith must continue to grow. It is not an option. Pastor Xavier is unafraid to teach about sin and repentance. He recognizes the importance of Israel and the Old Testament. He stands up for righteousness by calling out politicians who commit evil acts against our society. He also criticized the scamdemic Covid lockdowns of 2020. Since when were churches considered non-essential? If God commanded his pastors to feed the flock, then what right does the government have to shut down churches? Make no mistake here. I'm a licensed healthcare professional and the John Hopkins meta analysis study of 2021 proved that lockdowns made NO difference in mortality. (I also know that the Covid mRNA shots never completed FDA Phase III human clinical trials before they were forced upon the public. Without the completed studies of safety, elimination, and toxicology, it's no wonder why I have noticed so many people suffering from adverse effects of the shots.) I'm so grateful that Pastor Xavier had the wisdom and courage to share the truth to the congregation. That's what every pastor in America should be doing! Calvary Chapel Pasadena also has excellent children's ministry. They provide childcare during Sunday morning services. They offer one week of Vacation Bible School from 6 year olds to 11 year olds every summer. They also have an amazing Christmas choir program for people of all ages to participate. They also have a Christian bookstore. If you want to truly grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ, truly understand the word of God, and obey the Lord, then this is the church for you.
