Across the street
Michelle D.

I went to the 7:30am service. There was plenty of parking on the street for free. The service was given to the right side of the church which is a smaller chapel. There was a lot of standing up, sitting down and reading the scriptures together. The priest talked about a white Jesus, a brown one and supporting the anti nuclear bomb. Towards the end of service, two members went down the aisle with a small basket for donations. Then they had the sacrament or communion at the stage. They gave me a small round cracker and a sip of wine. As you walk out, the priest is at the bottom of the stairs to greet you. Overall, it seems like the main mission is to fight for human rights and less on the gospel. I left there feeling a lot of negative energy so I went back to my old church for relief.

All Saints is a inclusive and welcoming parish. We were here recently for a confirmation and were very impressed with the Liturgy and how beautiful the service was arranged. I don't usually write about Liturgy, but both Bishop Glasspool and All Saints' Rectory Rev Ed Bacon made it very special. The music program is also top notch, with four Section Leaders leading the congregation and guests. Another plus is the acoustics, which make their organ music exquisite. I would come back just to hear a concert, it's that good! Clearly mission, outreach and programs here are a model for all churches. I must commend them on their participation in the Via Media program, which I first experienced nearly ten years ago. Nice! Return factor, 100%

All Saints is a great church in that it is open minded, welcoming, reaffirming, liberal, anti-orthodox & anti-fundamentalist which for me spells all the great characteristics for portraying it to be heart-warming, caring, non-judgemental, and spiritually elevated. I went to the Jazz Vespers: A Celebration of Life, Spirit, & Music scheduled for Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 5pm. Anthony Wilson Trio was the featured performing artists, and there was over an hour of mellow, meditative jazz that included amplilfied guitar by Athony Wilson, Piano by Joe Bagg, & Bass by Darek Oles. The music was interspersed with prayer, dramatic reading by Eddie King of "I Am Waiting" written by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, part of the Beat generation of poets. Christina Honchell had meditations on the current events of our day giving it an All Saints liberal slant that contained humour, incisive criticism, cutting commentary, but clothed in kindliness & wish to better the world away from stiff orthodoxy & rigid authoritarian attitudes. I will post future Jazz Vespers in the photo section of this Yelp page whose last posted date is July 20, 2014. No reservation is required & Child Care is provided.

I am not a religious person by any means but I visited the Pasadena City Hall on a scorching Sunday afternoon and noticed the beautiful stained glass from across the street. It was music to my ears when I heard that it was opened not just because I love visiting churches, a habit I developed traveling throughout Europe, but because I felt the air conditioning from the entrance way. My boyfriend and I were the only ones in there enjoying the cool air and basking in the beauty of the church. I noticed many people taking engagement photos or quincenera photos at City Hall, but this was a little gem that could have produced some beautiful photos as well.

I'm an atheist and I love churches...there I said it. I think my love of churches started at the Catholic Church I attended at Catholic school (my family actually was Baptist and those churches are mostly ugly) I came across this church on my morning walk and noticed the door was open and headed in. There was no one inside so I took some photos. It's a beautiful church inside with beautiful stain glass windows. If you are around the area and have an appreciation for churches come check it out. Oh yeah...I went upstairs to see what was up there and some guy was sleeping up there...I think he was homeless. One more thing...NO I am not reviewing churches to get my review count high...I have more than enough flipping reviews I just wanted to share my photos and experience with you.

So here's my take on religion: I don't think unreligious people are better than religious people or vice-versa. I've always considered myself more spiritual than religious; however, I think practicing some form of spirituality in a social context *does* keep you in good energy and focused in what's truly important about life, and helps you exercise gratitude, forgiveness, compassion, empathy -- which I believe all help your spiritual evolution. :-) I haven't stepped into a church during service in awhiiiiiile. I read up on the reviews here quite a few months back and felt inclined to giving this a shot, so I finally went to bed earlier on Saturday night, which in itself is a miiiiracle... :-D And I must say I had a great Sunday today! Primarily the reason I decided to go is because I've been meaning to find a more liberal church where I can practice some form of contact with my spirituality in a social environment. However, I did not want a priest who was 98 and all about horror and destruction stories, gay bashing sermons and saying how God "hates this" or "hates that." That just goes against my personal views of loving thy neighbor. I have many friends who are from different religions and sexual orientations, so I'm not gonna sit through service and hear someone talk badly about people I love. And I think I may just have found the right fit. I was actually raised the first few years of my life in the Episcopal Church. My parents later changed to the Roman Catholic Church, to which I assisted as a teenager quite frequently and then lost interest. My interest in re-visiting the Episcopal Church came as a result of (I guess) not feeling satisfied with churches that don't welcome EVERYBODY in a genuine, no b.s. manner. I've been to All Saints just once, today, so I will update my opinion as I experience more. But so far, so good. I went to their Spanish service at 1PM. I was told it used to be bilingual, but it's now recently changed to fully in Spanish. They have a young priest (in his mid-to-late 30s?) who is very warm and welcoming as all of the other members of the staff. I also noticed a few non-Latin people of Caucasian and Asian descent, which I thought was very cool too. Everyone was nice. This is the kind of church in which people walk out of their pew to shake your hand at that peace/greet moment of the service. If you're extremely introverted, you may either feel weird, OR choose to smile and return the kindness. :-) I also like that women have a very active role in this form of faith (there are women bishops and altar women. Welcome to the new century!). The church in itself is gorgeous, architecture-wise, which is not really the reason I looked it up, but it *is* a nice environment. It's very big, yet I loved that it felt very intimate and familiar at the same time. The high ceilings and generous space did not make me feel lost and disenfranchised. And somehow I didn't feel intimidated about not knowing all the protocols. It was pretty smooth and easy. One thing I don't love is the I-say/you-say part, very typical of Catholic churches; yet they do have a script with all responses and songs. The choir was very nice -- no hurtful notes making your ears bleed, which can so easily throw you off if it's the other way around! :-D I know, it's not right, but when they're bad it just makes me wanna laugh! But not the case here, and they sing songs in Spanish and in English. They did a very different yet cool acoustic arrangement of "Amazing Grace". They have a study room that I saw was filled with young people. I didn't want to go in, because I just wanted to take in one thing at a time; but I may drop by at some point to learn how they see things and life in general. I also thought it was very cool that they have a moms-&-toddlers room: if you're a mom and have a child who's a little out of control crying, you can stay in this room and listen to service through speakers, so you don't have to interrupt other people's experience. I mean kids are kids, but c'mon! Sometimes it calls for a time-out! So, yeah: progressive, social cause aware, all-welcoming, friendly, uncreepy and warm. I'll be back. :-) I want to try the English service, too, so I'll update after that.

I had the opportunity to shoot a wedding here. Very beautiful church. The stained glass was beautiful. There are a lot of nice details. Lighting was great. The courtyard and surrounding area was really nice too. Very easy to find and there's parking for the church right next to it. Lots of corners and spots to continue taking nice pictures.

Our photography team came to All Saints Church for one of our customer's wedding. The interior for the ceremony was very beautiful, from the stained glass to the high ceilings to the perfect lighting. The ceremony has a lot of seating for the wedding's guests. As the wedding went on, they held the reception outside in their courtyard, hanging up beautiful lights to light up the night.

I attended Vintage Church Pasadena for about a year and a half, starting in January 2025. I've been…read morea Christian for over 18 years, and having moved across the United States a few times, I've had the chance to be involved in, volunteer for, and actively participate in several different churches in each city I've lived in. My experience with Vintage Church Pasadena was, for the most part, a normal and decent one: I attended the newcomers' breakfast, joined multiple events including a young adults' Bible study, and found most of the leadership, volunteers, and congregants to be genuinely kind people. It's a normal church, with the normal mix of good and less-good people you'd find anywhere. During the World Cup this past June, the church's worship pastor created a group chat for members interested in following the tournament and hosting watch parties. I joined the chat but rarely participated beyond occasional emoji reactions, and never attended a watch party in person since I didn't know him well. Partway through the tournament, he messaged me directly, out of nowhere, with a noticeably curt tone, asking whether I actually attended the church and which service I went to. When I answered warmly and even mentioned enjoying a recent Bible study, he simply stopped responding. The actual groupchat itself had a lot of good-natured sports banter back and forth, which I want to be clear I had no issue with. I was right there in the mix, teasing back just as much, and everyone seemed to be enjoying it, myself included. That changed after the Argentina-England semifinal. I posted a picture of a soccer play from the match. Without warning or explanation, the worship pastor deleted my post and removed me from the group chat entirely, with no conversation and no reason given. To his credit, he also deleted a video another member had posted of Argentine fans celebrating, so his censorship wasn't aimed at me personally, it was aimed at any pro-Argentina content, regardless of who posted it. But I was the only person removed from the group altogether, despite not being the one who escalated anything. Another member of that chat, who was following the exchange and wasn't even on my side of the banter (he also didn't want Argentina to win), told me afterward that he thought the pastor's reaction was "a bit harsh." Also, no one else on the group chat complained about me, except for the worship pastor that was put in charge of it. I reported the incident to a staff member, via email, so it could be addressed by leadership. She later called me and we spoke over the phone for about 20 minutes, and to her credit, she listened closely and asked thoughtful questions to understand the full picture; she seemed genuinely taken aback by how the pastor had handled it. That call was on a Thursday, and as of writing this, two weeks later, I haven't received any follow-up. For context, this will be my very first 1-star review for a church, and 5th 1-star review for any business as a whole, out of more than 480 reviews I've written in over 7 years of regularly reviewing businesses. I don't do this lightly. Please feel free to see all of my other reviews on this platform. I'm the furthest thing from a serial complainer and just basic human decency gets you 5 stars from me. I also want to be clear that I didn't rush to write this. I reported the incident internally first and genuinely intended to let it be handled through proper channels rather than posting anything public. It has now been two weeks and I still haven't heard back from the church. If that changes, I'll update this review accordingly. UPDATE: Added the picture in question that got me kicked out of the church groupchat (Messi with 3 English defenders). Adding some extra context: They did reach back 3 weeks after I had reported the incident, mostly because they saw this review go public and wanted to "put out the fire" so to speak. Throughout the email and phone exchange, they seemed more concerned with protecting the image of the church, by getting me to delete this review, rather than actually bringing correction to the leader in question. Even their "response" to this review reflects that mentality, by fabricating that lie on the spot that I was removed supposedly "... after multiple complaints were made about you by other members of the group." A church that fails to hold their own leaders accountable, especially when said leader is power tripping, is not a church that any healthy and mature Christian should want to be a part of. Also, uncontrolled hostility is a strong indicator of cardiovascular risk, so he should probably be mindful of that. Anyways, I'll close this by leaving an excerpt from my last email to them: "Football isn't what gives my life meaning and I take it just as a hobby, regardless of who wins or loses. My goal is to make new connections and new friends. It would be great for Tom to approach it the same way."

Sorry for the ultra-long review; but when I see that a place I love hasn't been spoken up for yet,…read moreI always feel like I have to fill in all the juicy details...so here goes. I love this church. It's charming, it's cozy, it's casual, it's friendly, it's real. Most in the congregation show up in jeans and t-shirts; a few others enjoy dressing up a little more, but it's truly a "come as you are" kind of place. Prism borrows their worship space from the Chapel of Roses, a beautiful vintage (if ever-so-slightly quirky) wedding chapel. As you come in the door, you can expect a genuinely friendly welcome (without any of that awkward "you're a stranger here" kind of weirdness; you know what I mean?), and usually they have coffee and treats out for everyone to enjoy. During service, you won't find a basket being passed for tithing; here, giving money to God is seen not as a "random act of guilt" under pressure, but a very personal act of worship between Christian and Creator. Hence, they just have a couple of boxes at the front and back of the church for receiving donations when the tither sees fit. Likewise, communion is also treated as a more personal activity; rather than going up systematically by rows, you can wander up to the communion table any time during the "response time" of music after the sermon (though it makes for some amusing traffic patterns sometimes, lol). I like this, because I often feel the need to just sit and pray--or pour my heart out with the music--right after Pastor Chuck's messages, and it's nice not to have to keep an eye on whether it's my row's turn to haul ourselves out of our seats. The youngest churchgoers are cheerfully cared for in the toddler playroom; the preschool set get to play and learn Bible stories in a comfortable upstairs room; and the older kids usually get to head out to enjoy their lessons in a shady spot in the courtyard (when the weather allows). Since the congregation is small, the kids get plenty of personalized attention; and you'll often see Pastor Chuck call out the kids' names and greet them with a big bear hug as they arrive with their families. Pastor Chuck's real heart is for those who have turned away from church life because of bad experiences, or because they never felt like they fit in. Here, you won't find any "us vs. them" or "holier-than-thou" messages in the sermons. In fact, you're much more likely to hear humble confessions of how the Christian church has sometimes failed to live up to its purposes, or even jaw-dropping tales of the pastor's own youthful misadventures (oh, my). The constant undercurrent is that we're all a work in progress, and that God doesn't let go of His love for us no matter what we do. There's a lot of laughter here, mixed with solid teachings from the scriptures and a true passion for our hope in Christ. I almost thought about giving Prism Church four stars instead of five, because this church is still in its infancy and hasn't yet worked its way up to some of the ingredients and extras that some might expect from more established churches. For example, at this moment, they have no middle-school ministry because there are simply no middle-schoolers to be found there. That will change within the coming years. In the meantime, they do a beautiful job with the resources they have, creating a genuinely welcoming community that will leave you inspired and refreshed. If you're looking for a big fancy place with all the bells and whistles, wait a few years; Prism's not there yet. On the other hand, if you're looking for a place where fun counts, your presence matters, and your talents and service can make a huge difference, this is your golden opportunity. If you're not so sure about this weird Christianity thing, and you're only just dabbling in the possibilities, don't worry; these people won't scare you away. If you've been bruised by churches in the past, and have stayed away for awhile, welcome home. This just might be what you've been looking for. --Oh--final note on parking--the lot behind the Chapel is very very small, but they've partnered with the lot directly across the street, so there's plenty of free parking there.

Replying to your comment:…read more You say high demand , You had 2 openings for that day , I didn't mind any of them . Father Gonzalez said NO .! because they are reserving the day for people who belong to the church . We're trying to book a YEAR in advance literally 365 days BEFORE & we were still denied . When is it that you guys allow outsiders to be married here if ever .? A 3rd church we called mentioned you could have mentioned maybe waiting 6 months prior to our date to reserve the date if still open but you guys flat out said NO, that NOTHING could be done. St.Vincent De Paul is more popular than you guys already being full that day a year in advance and they were willing to accept us . just saying change your website, or give outsiders details explaining word by word on when they could possibly reserve a date for a marriage there if you guys are reserving dates for YOUR people only. Since you mentioned hundreds of weddings a year there are held it must be ONLY of those who belong to the parish. I truly don't believe god would've denied the sacrament of marriage to anyone based on being from that specific church or not. It could've been that my fiance had tattoos & was in his blue collar clothing but he's a hard working loyal man who's changed his ways and has come a very long way from when I first met him. He was willingly wanting to receive all his sacraments from baptism to conformation to receive his sacrament of marriage whether or not needed here. It could've been that I was in a dress with spaghetti straps. Maybe I wasn't dressed modest enough but clothing doesn't define a person . Seeing that others have been/felt judged upon their looks. Truly sadden that you guys had the opportunity to let us reserve a date having 2 slot times still available but NO, is all we kept hearing. My cousin was the one who recommended us here and it baffled him to hear the rudeness and lack of professionalism from you guys .
