This is in an "executive court" - the studio is across from 1220 Iroquois - look for the brightly lit signs instead the studio. Plenty of parking.
I was here for a paper marbling class ("ebru") - they also do mosaic projects, mostly lamps. I saw the marbling at Turkish Fest and was sold. Class fee covers making five or six marbled papers (8.5x11), suitable for framing, wrapping small gifts, cutting into bookmarks, scrapbooking, using as book endpapers, etc. For an upcharge you can purchase a silk handkerchief, headband or long scarf and marble that, which most of us did.
All supplies are provided. The teacher showed our group of 6 how to spatter paint onto the water and make different types of patterns with a stylus or comb, then draw the paper over the edge to set the marbled acrylic paint on it. She said we'd have half an hour to practice with paper but they're generous. If you're planning to marble fabric, plan on the class taking three hours - after your practice papers, one person at a time does the fabric, which is set with alum, hung to dry and then ironed. This was a lot of fun and would be a fun group activity. They served tea and Turkish delight while we waited for things to dry, and the studio is full of beautiful mosaic lamps - I imagine most of us will sign up for that, too. read more
