Instead, the carrier bags and these thin, flimsy, plastic bags that hold either a head of lettuce or a pint of milk. This might be why the canvas carrier bag culture in England is so strong. Nearly everyone at the supermarket had their own canvas bags. Even I started bringing canvas bags. Because, as a lonely tourist, I bring canvas bags EVERYWHERE. The fruit and veg here were decent in quality. Not as nice as Sainsbury (I LOVE SAINSBURY!!!) but the red fruit was properly red and the green veg was properly green. However, it's improved recently with the addition of a fresh deli/bread/hot food counter and a cafe with a loo - also the range of food has expanded to include a lot of Co-op's Fair Trade produce which is encouraging. The food at the Co-op is good quality and the layout of the shop is good. I used to live near to Somerfield and used that more, and I'd say they are pretty much on a par - neither supermarket is a place that I'd like to use for my main shop, but they're useful for top-up items. What Louth needs is a nice big supermarket such as Sainsbury's!
