Funny story....I was at Lake Hopatcong, and I saw someone working on a trailer. I could just tell the guy I saw knew what he was doing. My trailer needed to have some parts replace, so I asked him if he had a card. He was actually the owner or Morris County Marine. I asked what it would cost roughly to fix the trailer and he gave me a quote right there. I dropped my (small) boat off there, and about a week later I picked it up, and it looked amazing. If your summer goal is to NEVER go out on your boat unless it breaks down... then bring your boat here for a pre-season tune up!! It's not worth the aggravation to re-live all of the lies and un-professionalism (from them proclaiming to 'test driving' the boat on a day I had it on the lake --stuck of course; to Doug (owner) never returning calls and rarely around; to the rude woman answering the phone; to, of course, the horrendous service they did). I would consider myself a long time solid customer who is beyond disappointed at what has become of MCM. I spent a TON of money with them over the years, and I thought that I had a decent enough relationship to get my phone calls answered and my emails responded to. They have basically disappeared. I haven't heard back from them since early 2020, when they charged me a small fortune just to hook up my batteries and electronics for the season, damaged my backup lights in the process, and refused to make good on any repairs. They were going through a lot of "stuff" at the time, their service and responsiveness was beyond off for a while, but because of what I thought was a good relationship, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, even when they really didn't deserve it anymore. But after a while, I just stopped trying and moved on. My guess is that they are now picking and choosing their customers based on their own arbitrary terms, and I'm guessing that I didn't make the cut. That's fine by me, thankfully I found someone else. It's a damn shame though, they were the best for many years. I'm putting this out there not so much to slam MCM as to warn others. I have been going to Morris County Marine for over 10 years and I find Doug and everyone else who works there to be extremely helpful and professional, many times going out of his way to make sure my requests for help/service are fulfilled. I would go to him first over any other place in the Roxbury/Hopatcong area without hesitation. The owner runs the business, every time I have been there he has been very professional and courteous. A few times i had to wait my turn as he had other customers before me, this just makes sense, first come, first serve and this guy is very meticulous and detailed with his work, which is a good thing as one would not want to be stranded in the middle of lake Hopatcong or worst somewhere in the Atlantic. Anyway, I fix my own boats, but I get parts from him, I have never been pressured to bring the boats in or sold something I didn't need, he always gets me the right parts quick and even one time he wouldn't be able to get me a seal soon so he even gave the part number (try that with any other shop). Overall, really good attention and excellent work ethics, they will keep receiving my repeat business. read more

I brought my 6 HP Nissan outboard in for a water pump 6 weeks ago. At the time I was told it would take one week to fix the motor. Since then I have called more that a dozen times for a status and to find out when the motor would be ready. They have never once returned my calls, even after Doug, the owner, personally promised he would get back to me. When I have been able to reach anyone there, I was told the parts are on order, but they have provided no explanation as to why it is taking so long. Really, waiting 6 weeks for a water pump without explanation is incredible. Dealing with them is particularly frustrating because I am a disabled military retiree and I would fix the motor myself if I could. If they had told me it would take most of the summer to fix the motor I would have taken it someplace else. My strong advice is not to deal with Morris County Marine. read more

I brought my motor 9.9 Mercury motor to Doug at Morris County Marine to get a tune up. This was during a tough time due to Covid and he was working by myself. In a short amount of time he got my motor back to me working good as new and even did a follow up call to see how things were running. Thats great customer service! Came here to buy a prop for my boat. The owner said that it was used but rebuilt. apparently someone dropped it off ans never bothered picking it up 9 months later..... what an idiot!!!! Anyway i will be doing more business with these guys!!! read more

I would give them zero stars if I could. I dropped off a prop to have it rebuilt over the winter. Went back to pick it up and it was sold. Apparently they have a 90 day notice although I never even received a call to pick it up. Needless to say I will be contacting BBB as well but they will never see another penny from me. read more

After calling every Yamaha dealer in the entire eastern Yamaha sales region, turns out Morris County Marine had the very last 25 hp Yamaha available. The new incredibly sweet 25 that has taken the industry by storm. And I DID NOT want to go through an entire season without that motor. Problem is, Morris County is a 9 hour round trip from my home in Rochester NY. And I'm usually very hesitant to do business like this outside of my area, but after talking with Doug, he was so down to earth on the phone that he instilled complete confidence in me. So off I went to Morris County - and sure enough, when I arrived Doug had the motor completely prepped and he rolled it out on an outboard dolly with all the paperwork. The entire transaction took less than about 20 minutes and I was on my way back to Rochester NY. I would highly recommend Doug and if I'm ever in the market for another motor, I would not hesitate to drive the nine hours to do business with him again. I've been out twice with the new motor and it is just as advertised - I am one happy customer! read more

After speaking to the owner in regards to our boat, I would never recommend this facility for any repairs. He kept telling my husband that I will get to it next week. Over a month went by, we called again asking and he said again he needs time. He has other customers that take priority over our boat. If you cant handle the business don't accept the boat. A tale of caution in dealing with Morris County Marine and the owner Doug. I had bought a few things from MCM and always had a favorable experience. So when it came time to sell my boat due to upgrading, I asked Doug and he said absolutely, we can get a good price. The boat was a 2016 and in pristine condition. Brought the boat to him close to a year ago and had no reservations. Came November 2017 and hadn't heard from him. Started to e-mail asking for a status. Didn't hear from him. BIG MISTAKE! I finally heard back from him in spring of 2018 after I sent him a USPS Priority Mail letter with delivery confirmation. He said he still had the boat and he was interested in purchasing it. I said that would be fine but he asked for a few weeks since business was just picking up. Again, didn't hear from him for about two months. Sent him numerous texts and e-mails. He was obviously dodging me. Was fed up and had an attorney friend of mine contact him. He also got the runaround and threatened to file a summons and complaint on my behalf. Well what do you know, Doug suddenly became available. He said he couldn't honor the purchase due to financial issues. I surmise he was just stalling since he had not properly taken care of the boat. I finally got the boat back today and low and behold he didn't winterize the boat. He didn't even bother to cover it . As a result I have a seized up engine, dead battery, rust in various places and the boat was filthy. I asked Doug if he would do the necessary repairs without charge. He responded stating the carb was gummed up due to the ethanol content in the gas and the battery was old (I purchased the battery in 2017). I decided to just cut my losses. I'm looking at $500.00 or more to get the boat back up and running to sell. Not enough to waste my time filing in small claims court but enough to spend 15 minutes alerting others on Google of the pitfalls dealing with him. There are several reputable marinas and marine service centers just a few miles away surrounding Lake Hopatcong. I suggest you look at them before you go to Morris County Marine. I installed a new Yamaha 9.9 this past spring, ran great first time out, but wouldn't run correctly after that. Seemed to be a carb issue but figured since it's new it's best to bring it in to the guys who know what they are doing. Spoke to Doug who was great to deal with. I dropped it off before we left for a long weekend and it was done before the next weekend. Started her up and ran like the new engine she is. Very happy. Even better, Doug was able to talk with Yamaha and had it covered under their customer care since not quire a warranty item. Even though I didn't get my boat or engine here, they were happy to help me out and provided great timely service. Local to me which is even better. Excellent service. Doug is very knowledgeable. I had carb rebuilt on LBI for $400 and it never ran right. It lasted 2 seasons, Doug rebuilt it for $200 and found issues with the first rebuild. I'm confident it will last. read more

I am a new boat owner and owning a boat can be very overwhelming at times. I don't know all the ins and outs of how to fix it or even diagnose the problem. I had a recent problem with my engine. I called Doug and informed him that I was uncomfortable turning the engine on and was afraid to use it. Doug came to my house that day after his shift and diagnosed the problem within 5 minutes. The very next day he came by fixed the problem and the boat was up and running within 30 minutes. I can not express how grateful I am for his service. It really was above and beyond.
