Had a great sailing trip with Morningstar Charters. My sister researched and found this company through Tripadvisor (ranked #2 at the time of this review). I have to say, I had a great time on this trip. There were only 3 of us, myself, my sister, and my 5 yr old son with Captain Micheal. He was very personable and catered to our needs. Michael was also great with my son. He ensured that my son stayed safe and engaged him with steering lessons, boat knowledge, knot tying practice, etc while i lounged around and enjoyed the view. We went to Honeymoon Bay on St Johns and hung out there for a couple of hours. We were surprised when it was time to go! It was a beautiful beach with some sea turtles nearby. Back on the boat, a wonderful grilled chicken lunch with veggies, corn and bread awaited us. Delish! We also apparently made good time on the boat due to favorable wind conditions, so Michael took us to another beach area, Linquist Beach, so that we could swim around and enjoy another part of the island (I think this was on St Thomas now). Overall, i highly recommend this company. It was definitely worth the price to have a small private personalized tour of the islands. Oh, and it was nice that we had a personal taxi service arranged by the company to pick us up from the cruise port to take us to the sailboat place on the opposite side of the island. read more

We booked a private sailing day trip with Captain Mike, and it was definitely a highlight of our trip! From the beginning he was very accommodating and flexible. We had a small delay due to the weather, but after that passed, it was smooth sailing! He was a wealth of knowledge about sailing (and even let us try steering). From spots on the boat to relax to snacks and cocktails, Captain Mike made it way too easy for us to enjoy ourselves. We loved the conversation, the sailing, the snorkeling - the whole experience! Amazing time on the water today. Highly recommend Mike at Morningstar Charters. A pleasant and easy sailboat ride to our first stop, where we snorkeled with sea turtles. Then we had fresh sandwiches for lunch and enjoyed a few adult beverages. We sailed to another snorkel spot and saw some amazing fish. We rented the whole boat for the day and I'm glad we did as we were able to set out our schedule. I can't wait to return for another boat trip! Thank you! read more

We've had an absolutely amazing time, today! Captain Mike and his newest first mate, Nicole, were absolutely great! They were constantly making sure we were both safe and comfortable... including making sure we have preferred (alcoholic, cold water, soda, whatever) beverages in our hand. We enjoyed awesome music, good food, and interesting conversations with them for the whole day. We sailed for most of the day, and also got to snorkel or chill on the beautiful "honeymoon beach" on US Virgin Island St. John for about an hour. The service was absolutely the best, although the views didn't suck ;). Capt. Mike and Nicole were always super helpful in the whole process, including some fun things like a WiFi hot spot, sailing back home in the shade of the sail, helping my mother who was feeling a little seasick but for only the first hour, etc. I could spend more time describing how awesome an experience this was hands down, but instead, you should go book it :P Also, Check this out... If you are looking for a relaxing day sail from St. Thomas to St. John with fun stops along the way and great company and eats look no further than MorningStar and the Winifred. Captain Dave and Josh were Awesome to me and my wife and 10 year old son. We started the morning with another family (6 of us total) and cruised over to Honeymoon Bay on St. John where we had a great snorkel and lunch. The crew took excellent care of us and catered to our every need. Ironically the couple that went with us had done extensive research and picked this boat due to excellent reputation. We picked it after a casual conversation at the pool of the resort the boat is docked. How fortunate we were to have such a great experience on this boat with this company! Do it! My wife and I were on an NCL cruise that stopped in St. Thomas on March 13. When we booked the cruise last October, I decided that I didn't want to do the cruise line crowded excursion thing and found Morningstar. Boy am I glad that I did. In my 30 years of cruising, this was the best excursion ever. Morningstar arranged for a taxi to pick us up at our the cruise pier (extra fee and a little pricey) and had the same taxi waiting for us when we returned from the sail to take us back. There were only 4 other guests on the sail so instead of snorkeling with 100+ people from my cruise, I was snorkeling with the 6 people. Captain Matt and First-mate Bridget were excellent hosts. Lunch was delicious and definitely needed after our hour plus of snorkeling. My wife and I are returning to St. Thomas next February while on another cruise and we will be booking another trip on the Morningstar! read more

I have been an avid sailor my whole life and have traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean and my charter with Mike was hands down the best experience I have had. He made everyone on the boat feel comfortable with food and whatever beverage you want, he took the time to share his knowledge of sailing and the Virgin Islands, and took us to the most lush and colorful snorkeling spots in the Caribbean. His passion for his job and this area of the world was contagious and really set the tone for the sail. I have taken many charters through this area and I mean it when I say this was unmatched by any prior experiences I had. The price point is extremely fair and an incredible value. The easiest way I can sum up my experience with Mike: I have been using Yelp as a travel bible for over 5 years and this was the first experience that compelled me to actually create an account and write a review. We had a wonderful sail with Captain Mike and his crew. It was a beautiful day, and we sailed to Honeymoon beach on St. John. Great snorkel and swimming. Good swimmers will enjoy the experience more, since we jumped off the boat quite far from shore. Had to earn that delicious lunch! We all got to help out, which added to the experience. Our son raised the sail, and I steered. Lots of fun! Got to stop at Lindquist beach as well, which was beautiful. Even the rainstorm on the way back couldn't dampen our spirits. Even on a rainy day we had a blast with Captain Mike!!!! We only had two days to explore and we are so happy one our days was on Captain Mike's boat. We had great tunes, "bevies", and fantastic company!!! Also, I was having trouble getting connected to do some work on the Internet. Our family of six, my wife and I, our two kids (ages 3 & 6 at the time), and my parents, sailed with Captain Mike and Bridget aboard the Winnifred (Morningstar has 2 boats) in May, 2012. Despite the range in ages and interests, Mike and Bridget readily entertained us and accommodated our needs throughout the day. Bridget was great with out daughter, keeping her happy and occupied throughout the day by chatting with her about mermaids. Mike was great with my mom, who's had a knee replacement and sometimes needs a bit of help getting onto/off of boats. We had no problems getting to/from the boat or getting on and off the dinghy. The sail itself was awesome! In all honesty, if the trip had consisted of nothing more than sailing to/from Honeymoon Beach I would have been plenty happy. For part of the sail I just hung out at the front of the boat with my son and wife, while soaking everything in. Everything just kind of receded and it was a true moment of serenity and happiness. Honeymoon Beach was fantastic: gorgeous, quiet, uncrowded, etc. My family has done a fair amount of snorkeling in a couple of other places (Aruba & Hawaii), but we all agreed that Honeymoon Beach offered some of the best snorkeling we've ever had. The water was perfectly calm (a very good thing for anybody with little ones) and clear. You can snorkel close to shore in relatively shallow water and still see a great diversity of fish and coral. We had a ray that was hanging out, skimming around right at the water's edge. You can also head out just a bit further from the beach where the water is around 20 feet or so deep, and that's where we saw several turtles, rays, and a barracuda! In a word: awesome!. I could've snorkeled there with the turtles and rays for an entire day. The boat is well stocked with food and drink, and the lunch was great. Nothing like eating lunch right there on the boat after an hour or so of snorkeling. Bridget is an excellent mixologist and the signature drink of the day was the "Lime in the Coconut" - excellent both with and without alcohol. All of us agreed that our sail with Morningstar was one of the best, if not the best, vacation experiences that we've ever had. It was a truly memorable experience, and for me is what vacation is all about: relaxing, having fun with family and friends, and doing something that you don't otherwise have the opportunity to do in your day to day life. We're taking another family vacation to St. Thomas again this coming July and this time there will be 12 of us. We cannot wait to sail again with Morningstar! read more
