This review is strictly about my throwing a SURPRISE 80th Party for my mom's 80th bday who has been a resident there for about 5 years (that's a whole different review). I've been planning to do this for her for about 3 years and I've been working with Richelle for about 6-7 months to secure a room and plan...it has been a lot of work to pull it off and include residents without them knowing until after 18 family members surprised mom for the first portion of the party. Without Olga, Richelle, Tania, Julie, and Victor this would not have happened! It all went smoothly and perfectly! I would give specifics on what we all did, but it was a lot and I know it is not normal for them all to participate as much as I was lucky to have them participate. Thank you thank you thank you Richelle, Julie, Victor, Tania, Olga, and all staff in the background that I may not be aware of. The food was all delicious and service was beyond excellent!!!! I wanted to tip Julie and Victor but was told no tipping allowed. Thank you all soooo much!!!!!

Stuffed chicken, broccoli , and brown rice.

I came with a friend who was interested in living here. It is very expensive. Continental breakfast and a nice lunch or dinner every day. We got a complimentary lunch and chocolate cake a la mode for dessert. The menu has lovely choices, including pizza, spaghetti, Mexican, American, and Asian. There is also a deli. Beautiful grounds. Fountains. Next to a shopping center. There are lots of amenities. Workout equipment, putting green, poker table, beauty shop, pool, exercise classes. Special interest groups. Lectures and live musical performances. Nice place to live if you have a lot of money up front and monthly.

The staff in the memory care unit are all very friendly. Some of the standouts in friendliness and in taking an interest in my mom are Nick, Susie, Ariehanna, Marco (nurse) and Brittney (nurse). There was some frustration awhile back with my mom not getting her med orders from her doctor's office as Oakmont nurse fax was not working. This was eventually resolved when Ben intervened. Jhoana, director of nursing has also been very responsive. In dining in the Assisted Living dining room, the service could be improved in terms of servers checking back with the table to see how we are faring, and also asking if we would like drink refills. Isabella, a newer employee has been amazing though and goes above and beyond in these areas. She is definitely a stand out. Amy, the Memory Care Activities coordinator, has been great at trying to get my mom to come to activities. At times I have had a hard time connecting with activities department as I only have an email and it takes time to get a response back. I have wished there was another way to connect with them quickly other than email. Maria, the Director has been responsive and helpful when we have had concerns or provided feedback here and there. Edgar, Oakmont transporter, is very kind to my mom and responsive. Last but not least, the front desk ladies, Lexi and Maddy have been great! I love that they always greet me by name and are helpful with a multitude of things. I will mention one of the challenges of memory care is that there are different levels of impairment in the clients. My mom is higher functioning and I do wish there were more activities that she could join the assisted living residents in. This would require staff support and planning for her to go to some of those activities but I do think she would appreciate being with some higher functioning residents. She complains a lot about feeling lonely, as many of the other residents in memory care are not able to interact with her.

I used to genuinely love coming here, especially before the change in management, Maria RCC, and staff. I always enjoyed visiting her during brunch, and my favorite memory was Mother's Day brunch last year. The staff were amazing, welcoming, and friendly, and it truly felt like a warm, caring environment. Even now, when we visit in the mornings, the staff continue to be amazing -- attentive, kind, and genuinely caring toward the residents. Unfortunately, my most recent evening visit was heartbreaking and very disappointing. When I arrived, I walked in on staff being rough with my grandma while changing her brief. They were rude, did not acknowledge me, and didn't even say hello. Seeing my grandma treated that way was upsetting, uncomfortable, and deeply concerning. Later that evening, I took my grandma to the evening movie around 6:00 pm. No one was there, so I walked around to see if someone could turn the movie on for the residents. I saw and heard three staff members along with Maria RCC sitting in the RCC room eating and laughing. When I asked if someone could please turn on the movie, it took about 10 minutes for anyone to come out and do so. It was discouraging to see residents waiting while staff appeared unbothered. I am relieved that my grandma will be moving to a facility closer to my mom, but it truly breaks my heart to see how much this place has changed. There are clear issues with professionalism and resident care, particularly during the evening hours. I hope these concerns are taken seriously so no other family has to witness their loved one being treated this way.

We couldn't be more pleased with the her experiences there. They have created a warm, personal environment, in which staff members are available to assist whenever needed. This includes managing my mother's numerous medications. They also work hard to create a social environment with residents sharing meals and activities when possible. Through recent renovations, they have created a beautiful and warm environment for the residents. This includes the addition of new flooring, paint, furniture, plumbing fixtures and additional lighting. They also have added exterior cameras and sensors to ensure the security of the residents. Aria makes sure that all rooms, clothing and bedding are cleaned regularly. My mom enjoys the freshly made meals that are cooked on the premises by the staff. Well planned meals are served three times a day. They make sure my mother receives food tailored to her health needs. Another big plus is that my mom is part of the Providence-St. Jude Health system. She is now only a few files away from her doctors' offices and St. Jude Hospital.

An autopsy was performed at the request of the investigating police and coroner officers and revealed that "a large 2 x 3/4-inch food bolus . . . consistent with steak" had been lodged in his throat and caused a choking death. The death followed the loss of my father's lower denture while in Villagio's care. Villagio supervising staff made assurances that a soft food diet would be provided while a replacement denture was made. In fact, the diet was not modified during the approximate 3 weeks without the denture. Nor was assistance regularly provided during meals. My father did not have the mental capacity to bathe, dress, walk or handle his dentures. He should not have been allowed to suffer and die in this manner while residing in what is represented to the public as a supervised memory care facility. While a Department of Social Services investigation has been undertaken concerning the actions of Villagio staff, it is unfortunate that Villagio, Capriana & Oakmont have not acknowledged or apologized for the death.

Over the past 15 years I've had the privilege of working closely with their team and witnessing the high standard of care they provide to their residents. The staff is always responsive, organized, and proactive when it comes to handling insurance-related matters--making the process smooth not just for vendors like myself, but most importantly, for the residents and their families. It's obvious that the residents are well cared for--not just physically, but emotionally and socially as well. A big part of it was the marketer who was not only helpful and communicative, but also enthusiastic about the building and the care staff. She helped them navigate various aspects of relocating our loved one, the pros and cons of different senior living communities and really highlighted the quality care provided by her staff. What ultimately sold us on this community was the memory care. We decided that it would be best to choose a community that had assisted living and memory care in one building so, if the time ever came, it would be a smoother transition should that level of care be needed. Although the building is a bit older, it is well taken care of and has a beautiful courtyard for residents and families to enjoy. I highly recommend taking a tour if you're considering assisted living homes for your loved one!
