I'd been wanting to check out the Morningside Makers Market for ages, thinking it would be especially good for gifts, etc.
I finally happened to be in Morningside on one of the days it was running, and had a bit of time to kill so checked it out.
As described, it's a big (ish) room with stalls setup. My memory is a bit hazy but I'd say there were maybe about 15 stalls, selling things that, for the most part, were a bit uninspiring. I remember some cool lampshades, some nice (but pricey) purses, and some pretty cool wood crafy-ey things.
In fact, I liked the wood crafy-ey things so much I went and got The Man to show him the timber coat rack I was interested in. He decided that being a timber engineer gave him the skills to make that kind of stuff himself, and away we went with him formulating an idea. To be fair on him, he upcycled a timber off-cut we had leftover from a shelf and repainted the old coat hooks that were up in the house when we moved in and I'll be darned if he didn't make me a timber coat rack very much like the one I was eyeing at the Makers Market.
My point with that story is that there's some stuff here you can make yourself - and some specialised stuff too... but it's not a place I would go out of my visit again. read more
