While visiting Asheville for a long weekend from Washington, D.C., booking a Hood Huggers tour was…read moreone of the best things we did. Led by Mr. Dwayne, the tour is an hour and a half learning about the Burton Street Community, a historically Black neighborhood in West Asheville and the victim of gentrification and highway expansions. Hood Huggers was created to serve as a champion for the 1912 neighborhood and its long-time residents. My wife, eight-year-old daughter, and I booked a Sunday morning tour. Since it was just us, he gave us the option to walk it or take his little shuttle. Mr. Dwayne gave us the background on the area before Mr. Cotton, the grandson of the man who founded the neighborhood, joined us with a book of photos. After a drive, we ended at the Peace Gardens and Market, a sacred space for the community.

What a cool tour. He showed us a lot of different areas that were Historical for the African-American community. He also shared a lot of historical information of the schools and colleges in the area that were very prominent years ago. I will definitely recommend this tour hands down to give you more of a historical African-American background of the city based on the money that we spent I feel that it was a great value for the tour that we received the service was outstanding by our tour guide and hands-down. I definitely would recommend this tour.

Went for a ride after the skills and he knew the trails needed to practice the skills. Day 2 took a guided tour lead by Will, again an excellent part of the Bike Farm team, took us out to DuPont and shows us some amazing trails, even had chocolate chip cookies after the ride. I highly recommend The Bike Farm for all levels of riders. Thanks JP

Escaped to the mountains from Florida, work and all the crazy of the world for a few days…read more... to find The Bike Farm and we couldn't be happier. Guided Rides - Our guide Josh managed to make it all work perfect; for a mom who is truly a mountain biking beginner, the dad who seems to be able to handle anything and the son who really enjoys a challenge. My point is, they happily accommodate all skills levels. Rental Bike options - it's only first class here with beautifully equipped new Yeti bikes, you will leave wanting one of these babies for sure! Plenty of choices for all rider types/sizes/etc... Location - The Bike Farm is easy to find just outside Asheville proper then a short trip to unbelievable trail options. Your guide will discuss what you want to do, then plan the route accordingly. We originally chose one day then added a second because we just couldn't get enough. If we could have stayed longer, we definitely would have. We took this trip to have an escape and enjoy the outdoors and couldn't be happier that we chose The Bike Farm. When we return to NC, without a doubt we will book again.

For $5 each (as opposed to the $50 each at Biltmore) we got a good look at a home that was built in 1815 & added to in 1840. It was so interesting to see the different wood, building techniques, and even the configuration of the home as it survived these past 199 years! There was a wonderful docent, I believe her name was Dotty ( but I'm not good with names so forgive me if that's not right.) She was a terrific guide and so attached to the place. It really is a great little house to tour and would be a terrific educational outing for kids. We drove past it twice as the town's brochures just state that "its on Hwy 280" - great guys, thanks. It is on 280, just past the Walmart look for the Taco Bell, turn left after the Taco Bell up into the pine trees on the gravel road.
