Grater Goods - Cheeses prepared for our tasting

It's probably a good thing I live 40 minutes away from Grater Goods, because if I lived too close…read moremy diet would become exclusively cheese. I finally visited for the first (and not the last) time recently for a private tasting event with fellow folks from the Junior League. The two women working -- including Jennifer, the owner -- were easy to talk with and super informative about the four cheeses they served us, which ranged from a Brie to a Comte. I love cheese. I love expensive, funky cheese, and I also love cheap, mild cheese (and everything in between). But I know enough about cheese -- well, I've eaten enough cheese, at least -- to tell these were excellent cheeses provided by someone who really wants locals to enjoy them. The shop itself is lovely, carrying not just cheeses but some meats and plenty of other selections you may want for a charcuterie board (or your own midnight snack)...spreads, honeys, crackers, and more. They also have some French butters, ready-to-beat baguettes, and even some homewares like beautiful wooden service items, mini fondue pots, and cheese slicers. This would be an excellent place to stop in for a housewarming gift, even if you're not looking to gift something edible. But also, consider gifting something edible. Who doesn't want good cheese? And I haven't taken advantage of it yet, but I will soon: the shop offers trays and boards ranging from "snack for 2" to "large party" if you give them notice. Also, "snack for 2" might become my new go-to lunch.

I absolutely love this little hidden gem. The service was impeccable. I was thoroughly impressed…read morewith the selection of cheeses. Whenever I visit Jax I always look forward to real BBQ. Usually I visit another favorite but this…read moretime my sister and I decided to try out The Butt Hutt for the first time. We came in on a Wednesday evening. We asked about the menu and were told at the counter that it was Wing Wednesday and the wings were $1 each. Well how could we not add those onto our order. We ordered a Burnt Ends platter with mac and cheese, and corn nuggets, a Brisket Platter with corn nuggets and beans. We also ordered a large mac for my son and a side of lean brisket. For the wings we ordered the Cajun ranch. Our food started coming out in about 5 minutes. Firstly, I was shocked at the wings. I love wings, but they aren't something I usually order often as I find them just OK. There are only a couple places that I visit specifically for wings. Well, let me tell you, I would make a visit back just for these wings. OMG, the Cajun ranch was simply amazing, really addictive. They were my favorite item. We devoured them. The burnt ends were very good. I appreciate they are big chunks of brisket with no pull pork filler. The flavor was amazing as well and the bits of fat melted in our mouth. The corn nuggets were fine and the Mac N Cheese was quite tasty. We enjoyed the meal so much, were were trying to figure out somewhere for a family lunch the next Sunday and came back again. This time my sister, son and I brought my dad. We of course ordered more wings and burnt ends and brisket with lots of Mac N Cheese. The food really is something special. The wings are absolutely wonderful and the burnt ends are a hit. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants and will always be on my list of visits to enjoy when I come back to Jax.

Daily Seafood Market absolutely lives up to the hype. I had seen the viral videos floating around…read moreand honestly wondered if it was exaggerated -- it's not. The videos are accurate. The portions are HUGE and they do not skimp on anything. Yes, there was a long line, but I truly didn't mind waiting because once I got my food, I understood why. The garlic crabs were seasoned perfectly and packed with flavor. The seafood was fresh and well worth standing in line. If you're debating whether it's worth the hype, it is. Come hungry and be prepared to wait -- but trust me, it's worth it.

What once was a short wait for your food to be cooked place is now a wait in line for an hour and a half to place your order. We waited and an hour in line we learn that they are out of crab trays (the main reason for going). They did have whole blue crab boiled with a sauce over it. The price was reasonable. We ended up getting snow crab legs, blue crabs, and shrimp. The customer service was good. You coukd tell they were tired. I found out by the door holder that a social media post had been made recently which brought a lot of people to the store. This explains the running out of food and the fact that no fried items from the menu were available. Perhaps this explains why we received frozen crawfish with sauce over it. Now I will say, there is no getting this food and going to a park to eat it. You have to go to a microwave or oven to heat/cook it. Once done the food is very good and the garlic butter sauce great. You can purchase crab boil mix here as well as meat, shrimp, and seasonings.

My go-to is the Hoss burger, because I love the onion rings and special sauce, but their steaks (ribeye and tenderloin) are also perfectly aged and fresh off the butcher block. This is a small deli with seating tucked away on a neighborhood street where you're guaranteed to be greeted with a friendly smile by someone willing to answer any questions you may have. It's an older building but they're serving up bistro quality food. The menu is written on the wall to the right of the register, but they also have a printout. If you're prone to decision overwhelm and don't want to order 14 things, you can also look at the menu on their website! If I lived in walking distance, I'd come here twice a week. They also sell beer, wine, salads, sandwiches, and chicken tenders and fried fish! Can you tell I'm obsessed with this place?!

I went to Pinegrove Deli with very little idea of what to expect and was happy with my choice. After intensely studying the menu I finally decided on the Ortega. I love chicken salad so jazz it up with some tabouli and put it in a pita and I'm sold! I also ordered a side of onion rings which were also good. There was a pretty long wait to order, I'm not sure if the kitchen was backed up or they were short staffed but it was drastic enough that some people left before ordering and regulars were mentioning the wait time was getting worse. I have nothing to compare it to but it was 12:30 on a Saturday so it might have also just been a rush.
