AMAZING!!! As far as I remember this place has won pub food…read moreof the year ever year since Ive lived in the area. Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

The Boat is afloat !!…read more Nestled right up alongside the River Dee and recently reopened, the Boat has lost none of its charm or ambiance. I like the fact that they support the community around the area by buying their Beer and Produce locally whenever possible. Records date an Alehouse here right back to the 13th century and the interior decor reflects how the building has grown through the centuries.Lots of Oak beams and stone floors add buckets of character. You can choose one of the quiet corners for privacy or park up in one of the larger open areas and banter away or, weather permitting, take a table outside. Called in for lunch the other day and the menu, although not extensive, has everything for feeding all tastes from a wake-up morning coffee (open at 11am) to a refreshing pint of ale and home baked pie, or spend an easy evening with a fondue and some warm torn bread washed down with a pint of locally brewed traditional free house Cask Ale. They also have an excellent choice of Wines should you fancy a change. Once you have had your fill then ease down that food and drink by taking a riverside country walk!! The scenery is stunning. The great thing about 'The Boat' is that is a place for all seasons. When the weather is warm you can sit alongside the river and watch folk fishing for Trout, Salmon and Eel and may even catch a glimpse of the Otters who live on the opposite bank. And what a lucky day for us! Charming snug of a place, the open fires, low ceilings and original beams transport you back to a simpler time. The staff is wonderfully warm and welcoming, with excellent food to back it up. A combination of traditional pub food and higher-end "gastro-pub" fare, you really can't go wrong here. And the portions are impressive-- beware if you're ordering a starter and main. You may not have room for their excellent desserts! Ample seating inside and out-- can't wait for warmer weather to sit outside at the picnic tables alongside the River Dee. The best inside seating is in the original building as opposed to the more modern conservatory (though it depends on your taste). Bookings are not necessary, but if you want a seat by the fire, definitely call ahead!

We were only stopping through for a couple of days, but still managed to pack in an afternoon of ales, cider and pool at The Cock and Pullet pub. It's a charming little pub chock full of classic English heritage. The staff were lovely and accommodating and the selection of ales, ciders and beers were most superb. If you find yourself up in this beautiful neck of the woods (it's literally right in the middle of the picturesque Peak District),I'd highly recommend that you stop in for a Tipple!

Man, you have to be VERY hungry to eat in this place. Seriously. And of course, it's a good value for the money. I got a nice rump steak for about £6-something )I don`t remember the price because it was a treating and I didn`t pay for anything. Nice!) and the chip portion was generous. Food tastes really nice there. It`s definitely homemade and the service is really nice. Actually, fair play to the girl who was serving us. She seems to be barmaid, manager and anything else in that place. She keeps the pub running well. I would say. Multi task people: my favourite ones! This pub has also a different meal for the day in a cost of over 6 pounds. Really nice options. And the cakes seemed to be pretty fresh! I wish i had more room for some pudding. Before I get to the negative bits I have to say the food tasted good and looked good too , it's a nice looking place with plenty of room .... To be fair I expected it to be busier at 2 on a Sunday ? Anyway , before we ordered I asked the young waitress if I could 'swap' the Cheese , Leek & potato pie for the vegetarian tart as I don't like cranberries ..... she said she'd ask. Now then, bear in mind that the whole swap would just involve taking the tart off a plate and replacing it with the pie so I was really optimistic. Anyway she came back and said " The only way we can do that is if you pay for both " so I just clarified that she was asking me to pay for BOTH meals at a price of £31:00 !! She said "yes that's right £31:00 " ‍.......so I checked again with the lady who booked us in earlier and she agreed that I would have to pay for BOTH meals to enable them just to swap a pie for a tart !! You can see from the photo that they could have fitted both on a the same plate. Anyway it all went downhill from there , no horseradish sauce with the wife's beef , a teaspoon of red cabbage , a teaspoon of clotted cream , the mixed berry compote was actually cherry compote, no one came to see if our food was ok , no hand towels or hand dryer in the loo , the people on the next table were told they would have to pay extra for a small jug of gravy as it was " special Sunday gravy " When I left I did tell them what I thought , none of it was personal but the pricing strategy probably explains why there were so many empty tables ? The lady on the till knocked £18 off my bill and apologised but to be honest , we won't be going there again ...... it's not local and situations like this help you choose where or where not to go ..... I have to say again that everything tasted good and looked good but what a shame.

They only take bookings for 6 or more people which is a real pain if you are trying to book in advance. Have turned up there and not been able to get a seat which highlights its popularity. The staff were great and we did not feel that we were being rushed even though some people had starters. A lot of us picked from the specials board and the food came out devine and the service was outstanding. The place was busy as it was the jazz/fringe festival weekend so the clientelle was of all ages (a bit annoying having babies/kids screaming thoughout the meal) including elderly who came in through the fire door for easy access. I would definitely recommend this place which is also dog friendly. This place is soo good that Seasick Steve was playing there that evening and eating his dinner in the pub part as we left.

They serve wonderfully prepared food in a restaurant/pub that has a friendly atmosphere, good quality real cask ales and a high regard to customer service. If you've been after the return of the great British pub with well cooked food - this is the place for you. All of the meat comes from local butcher, Martin Thomas of Pattingham and is cooked to perfection on site by the chef and owner, Caroline Haddon. Update: 27/11/14…read more Given that it was a Wednesday and no good weather the place was nearly full. The point of the update is that two colleagues and me went to use the vouchers from previous visits. I held 9 vouchers. 6 vouchers gives £12 of the bill. No problem. I mentioned that the other 3 expired 30/11/14. Not another problem, swapped for 3 that expire November 2015. Plus 2 more for the meals that had been paid for.... So, 5 new vouchers.... That's service..... and guarantees my return. 27/5/14 OK. They get their star back. Wife loved the place. The kids enjoyed their food too. Service was good. Had a slight problem getting to the place by taxi, as the driver didn't have the post code. I tried to ring the restaurant on the number they rang me back on earlier in the day. No answer. Eventually got to the place. BUT - IS THEIR PHONE FOR OUTGOING CALLS ONLY? OTHERWISE, ANSWER THE FLIPPING PHONE. I'm letting them keep their 5 stars, but if when I visit again and find them slow to get the drinks to the table, and slow to get to the table for us to pay, when they have already delivered the bill, then I might drop a star. I would have done, if I'd noticed their pudding wines. I know, I know.... greedy, but I have a rotund figure to maintain. :-) Well served by the staff...... Now the wife wants to visit!!!!
