If I did not happen to be someone who keeps extensive records to immediately disprove the report point-by-point, that could have truly been a nightmare and caused substantial additional trauma for my daughter. The experiences with Casa did, unfortunately, make her very wary of mental or behavioral health services. 2) I am amazed and endlessly grateful to see the positive changes that have occurred since she stopped getting "help" from the Casa workers. Her confidence and activity levels have soared, she's so much less fearful and depressed and anxious and confused and isolated all the time. I truly wish I would have trusted my own knowledge and instincts and not let these "professionals" keep making my daughter and I feel like they know more about us and what we should do and feel and think than we do. I guess there's some silver lining out of this nightmare. I am thankful that, if nothing else, it definitely made us closer. It's hard for most teenagers to recognize what their parents do for them and appreciate it and see how much we care about them, but after seeing how awful and manipulative and biased and self-serving the employees were, it was really a wake up call for her. She's so much more appreciative and grateful and motivated for both the present and the future now. So I guess at the end of the day, Casa de los Ninos did help us, but unfortunately, it was through the damage caused by their professional incompetence, agenda-pushing, overreaching, undermining, and boundary-crossing.

The graduates of the program are set up totally into personal housing with any and all donations welcomed to provide for these needs . I recently met with the children and family services coordinator who told me they take women and children and offer daycare to residents, in order to provide job training for interested women. Both men and women are offered services. On campus is an El rio health clinic so people could get health services. There's food available. There's places to sleep. There's an intake counter for people in need, look for the Welcome center building. The gospel rescue mission is always in need of volunteers to do various things. There are carefully monitored guidelines including strict intolerance of drugs/alcohol, violence, and even hate language. Every resident must participate in a program (learning, job training, etc.) as well as in requirements of the house - cleanliness, chores. These all evolve from their mantra: love, grace, dignity, and respect. It is demanded by and from residents and staff. Remarkably, it is intrinsically self-policed, that is, residents will call out misbehavior by a peer before staff ever need to. And, despite their Christian roots, participation (by staff volunteers and the unhoused) is non-proselytizing. We learned that medications are also strictly regulated - no one can have them loose by their bed, etc. All meds are locked and carefully distributed directly to the assigned patient-resident one day at a time. Once a resident has completed job training they become eligible to attend a Pima College certificate program - one that, again, GRM pays for. These ultimately lead a resident to become employment ready. One of the really cool things about GRM is that residents stay until they have BOTH a job and an apartment lined up... and, maybe a bit counter-intuitive, despite all that's provided for free, residents are self-motivated TO graduate. GRM manages to accomplish all of this on a budget of around $12-15M per year. We learned that they regularly receive corporate donations from the likes of Amazon (giant pallet surprises) as well as from area businesses. Another cool thing is that donations from individuals like you/me are never resold. Rather all are distributed in-house, frequently to those graduating to their own place. Moreover, they have a small fleet of trucks (think medium-sized U-Hauls) that will drive to you and pick up any donated furniture or appliances... for free! They will go as far south as Green Valley and as far north as Oro Valley and all in between, east/ west. These items provide "graduates" with the modest items to furnish their new apartment. There were other volunteers in attendance on this Saturday as well and you can register to volunteer most anytime. I have since brought my last two "goodwill" loads to this (local) charity!

So I did some research online to find places that give pet food assistance and found this place among a few others. This was the only one open on Saturday at this time, so I came here first. I did get some dog food and treats and am very grateful for the help, but at what cost? The woman at the desk, Randy, exhibited behavior that was very disrespectful and unprofessional. She assumed because my pets were not neutered or spayed, that I was a breeder. They are only 4 months old and not able to be fixed yet. She rolled her eyes at me repeatedly and talked down to me in a very condescending tone. I was completely shocked and didn't know how to respond to this verbally abusive woman who was supposed to be helping people, not shaming them for asking for help when they really need it. I definitely will not EVER come here again and will tell everyone I know to stay away from this place.

I encountered an issue today at approximately 10:30 AM during a food retrieval. The employee, who appeared to be approximately 63 years of age, denied my request, stating that company policy limits each customer to one chip. His demeanor was rather uncooperative and discourteous. I observed that preceding customers were provided with three to four chips and were even encouraged to take additional quantities. This discrepancy in policy enforcement is a matter of concern. I recommend addressing this with the employee to ensure consistent and professional service for all patrons. I witnessed several individuals ahead of me receive three to four chips from this employee, and they were even prompted to take more. This inconsistent application of policy is unacceptable. So, this is bigger amount, i looked at photos of the Tucson warehouse , very stocked , and asked how often a family can get a box of food and staples. ONCE A MONTH WITH FULL RESIDENCE ID. It seems to me, with this much inventory, no one should have to get by on once a month. And, if you need food from the food bank you seem unlikely to have a current drivers license and a home. I don't see how a box a month of dry good will last for 1-2 people. I would suggest weekly and in need only as a requirement. I made my large donation. elsewhere in Tucson where i can specify how it is to be used. Nutrition and Vitamins thatmedicare insurance won't pay for.
