When I think of Mikkeller, I think of the brewery of the same name in San Diego, CA, that closed in April 2023. We got to visit their Amsterdam spot during our trip, which is a little hidden gem tucked away behind a small alleyway.
They have a ton of beers on tap and they even serve food. The inside is very small but we managed to find an open table, though it was moderately busy. Mikkeller is one of four bars that you can visit during the More Beer tour, where if you visit four bars in one day, you can get a free t-shirt. If I figured this out sooner instead of learning this right when we sat down, I would've definitely been up to doing this during our trip.
Our beer selections were as follows - the Mikkeller Ich Bin Raspberry, the Full Circle Brew Funky Music, and the Brehon Brewhouse Raglan Road. The Ich Bin had that super fruity raspberry flavor to it, and as someone that is a huge fan of fruity/sour beers, this really hit the spot and I decided to have a second glass of it. The Full Circle Brew Funky Music, which my dad ordered, I believe was a stout. The Brehon Brewhouse Raglan Road, which my mom ordered, was I think another fruity or sour beer. We also got a blueberry cheesecake stout in a bottle, which was WAY too sweet for me.
Our food items were as follows - the Bitterballon, the vegan dog, the loaded nachos, and the chicken burger. At first I wanted the other hot dog selection that they had, but chose the vegan dog instead as it would settle better in my stomach. My mom got the loaded nachos and my dad got the chicken burger. My dad got the chicken burger specifically for one of its' ingredients - the homemade kimchi. The Bitterballon served as our appetizer, which was like beef stew inside of a meatball. We thought that the food was really good and paired well with our beers.
I had a great time here and we hope to be back next time! read more
