We did our due diligence and checked out several other locations but they didn't come close to being as special for us. We're both pretty poor planners and were overwhelmed with the idea of planning a wedding for our ~85 guests but Elaine and her team really do make it easy. We went with their all-inclusive package which covers A LOT of the heavy lifting. For anything not included, Kindred Oaks has plenty of recommendations and will keep you accountable to make sure things are getting done. As for the special day itself, no one wanted it to end. Diane the proprietor was so helpful & made everything so easy. Theyve got two floors & a patio with gorgeous tall ceilings & chandeliers. We had a photo booth set up in the back shaded courtyard, which made it a popular hangout spot for everyone at one point. Diane has lots of decor & supplies up in her attic you can use for free! The other Fridays they had Country/Western dances. These are open dance nights, sometimes 12 people show up, sometimes 70-100 people. Only $5 per person to get in, something like 7PM-11PM. Sometimes they have special parties, which are a lot of fun, like on holidays. The Halloween party is just great, and you can win free lessons. And occasionally the place is rented out for private parties. You just have to check their calendar. It is available for weddings and I think it would be great for a wedding reception, particularly if you could get the staff to stay and liven up the dancing. The people who go here really vary- some people were high school age, especially home school students, soldiers from Ft Hood came sometimes, older people also. One person I met was 90 years old, and a very good dancer. Really anyone who appreciates ballroom dance. You don't have to be very good either (and they offer private lessons) because people are very patient and will usually help you learn at least the basic steps. The music is good too, some old stuff some new. Cumbia, line dances, tango, swing, foxtrot, Lady Gaga, MJ, Nat King Cole, if you can dance to it they play it. Also they take requests sometimes through the email list. The place is in OLD downtown Temple, on Main Street. When I went there alone the management would walk me out to my car in the evening sometimes, as it is dark and deserted there at night. The building they are in is really old, with a dance floor, stage, wooden floor, tables, bar (no alcohol, they sell snacks and soda, etc, it is BYOB), it used to be some kind of department store. The owners restored it, it has a great deal of charm. It has a second story window that a person sits at and DJs all the music. It is painted like an aquarium, which is funny. Anyway, if you want to hang out in a mature but fun place and meet lots of nice people, I highly recommend you check it out.

Overall, the cabin facilities were good. We also used a couple of the classrooms that were a bit more run-down that I would have preferred and the in-window heating seemed to be a hit or a miss. The tables could use a refresher and the windows could use an update. The restroom facilities that we used while outside of the cabin were less than stellar. It was neat that there was a washer/dryer on site in the restroom, but the bathroom doors were falling off the hinges and the toilets flushed when they felt like it. The bathroom could use a refresher alongside the classrooms. The grounds were lovely. There were several picnic table areas for us to hang out under trees and enjoy the great outdoors. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here and the facilities were quite well done... They could use a refresher in some of the common areas.

However, the AC turns COMPLETELY OFF when the doors are open and takes forever to cool down the room even the least bit. We spent 4 hours in 80+ degree heat due to this dysfunction. If you are planning an event I would recommend you LEAVE THE DOORS LOCKED. Otherwise, beautiful venue, wish I didn't sweat for 4 hours in formal wear, or that this wasn't a venue in Texas.

There's goats, a very talkative black and white cow who would sure love a bath. There's some rusty farm equipment and some carosel horses that have patinaed nicely. There's not a lot there but at least 20 minutes to visit all the things. It's great for photos. Parking is ok. There is a tiny lot so it may fill up fast as there's also a church and the RV rental area.

For something more modern, you could decorate very effectively to suit your own needs. Recently we needed to host a hundred or more persons for a special sports event. We were able to utilize the vast seating area, the kitchen and the parking with no concerns. They are conveniently located to Old Settlers Park where we had our players at, so they could simply come over afterwards (or before hand) when we needed them to. Overall, a good general purpose facility for our needs and probably good for yours as well.
