My 8 year old son and I love Moqui cave. We stopped on the way back from the animal sanctuary. Could you imagine back in the day just finding a big ol cave like that to chill in? Literally chill.. the cave stays naturally cool. Lucky them! Our favorite part was the glowing rocks in the very back. We spent a long time checking them out. There are rocks from all over different areas. I had no idea rocks glow under blacklight! The rocks formed different designs or made different colors depending on the type of material of the rock. Fascinating. They also had other rocks that made art naturally when cut, like Billy the Goat. We spent about an hour, maybe a little over here, but I thought it was worth the stop.

I was driving by during my road trip and popped over. I walked in and saw that it was a paid attraction (I call it an attraction vs. a museum since it's very much for profit) which I wouldn't have necessarily minded to pay but given I was on the road I didn't have a lot of time to pop in, so I walked the grounds instead. I thought it looked promising and I've bookmarked it for the next time I roll through. The biggest disappointment was I saw their little food cart and I was DYING for something to eat or drink that wasn't packaged from the gas station but, though it was within their operating hours and the cart looked open (lights on, signs out, etc), there was no one in there and no signage to indicate they were on a break or I should go inside to ask for assistance. So I sadly got back in my car and kept on driving until my next stop!

Don't these little colorful stones look just like candies?

Four stars because it was fun but *do* manage your expectations. It's a little museum (20 minute stop) with a lot of local history and for the $5 admission the owners provide fascinating tidbits about the caves' legendary past. Photos and glass cases full of indigenous artifacts, fossils, and real dinosaur footprints (!) are compelling if you're into that stuff (I am), and the rest is gift shop. Lots of shiny stones, little fossils, and crystals for sale starting at about two bucks. Something for everyone :) If you want to hike up to some caves, drive a half mile south and park at the sand caves.

It's a nice place to stop when you are on a long road trip. It's cold inside the cave so if you are over the heat this is the stop for you. It really feels like more of a giant gift shop. It kind of overwhelms you and you have to make several passes through everything because it's just so much stuff in that front room! It's a one and done thing for us.

I'd done some research on things to do in the area and Moqui Cave sounded pretty cool. So we went there, but it was nothing like I expected. If you type in Moqui Cave into Google, the pictures that come up are of a cave with a sandy floor and two openings to look out from, but that is NOT Moqui Cave; that's Sand Cave, about a half mile down the road. So we paid $7/person to go in and they had a bunch of fossils and rocks on display. Many of the rocks glow when under a black light. They also have some Indian artifacts and other things from the area. There's also a gift shop. I don't feel I got my money's worth and was disappointed by this place. The only reason I didn't give it 2 stars is because I like rocks and fossils and stuff like that. Would not recommend; go to Sand Cave instead.

There's an area of the museum that has rocks from around the world that glow under a blacklight

Really neat museum with rocks that naturally glow when under a black light. Dinosaur tracks, native American artifacts, and much more. The cave was the perfect attraction during late afternoon end of June! It's so hot outside but the cave is night and cool! Me and history nerd, and my husband a cave lover, this was awesome!

Nice place to stop by if you are looking for an interesting place to check out while getting out of the hot sun. They had tons of stones for display and lots of interesting/meat stuff including a lot of handmade jewelry (silver and turquoise) by native Americans. Also outside they have sandwiches and smoothie. Got the berry smoothie and it was so delicious. Please try it. I was surprise since usually I don't like these types of thing.

It looks very impressive outside but no value for the money inside. It looks more like a gift shop than a museum. You can even purchase shark teeth, funny.

This was a nice little pit stop. Short break, 30 minutes or so. Lots of interesting history and artifacts.

This is a small museum and store. Admission is $7 per adult, which came with a 5 minutes tour. It has 3 chambers that includes some exhibits. Kids friendly. The store has a variety of gem stones. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about gem stones. There is a small food stand that has açaí bowl, smoothies, and other snacks. It is perfect for the hot weather. I highly recommend to come in during a hot day as you can feel the cool draft as soon as you walk in. It is a good way to cool off.

It is cave converted to bar. Cool set up. Many movie had film here. The Moqui Cave is natural cave convert to current setup to attract visitors. It is about 6 miles from Kanab. Now it is a natural museum. It is own privately and operated by the the Chamberlain family since 1951. It has three chambers. One of the chamber is western bar, second is dancing hall in the dark and last is the gift shop with American Indian hand crafted. The display includes the dinosaur track. The collection of the dino tracks has cumulative amounts. It also has numerous American Indian artifacts such over thousands arrowheads, pottery, and more. One of the larger collections on mineral rock. This mineral and artifacts place in the dark dancing with grow fluorescent light to see the difference colors. According to the tour guide they use this camber to holding to dance events in the dark. Since this cave is close to the water sauce and many horses and come to rest here. That is one of the reasons one of chamber is a bar. Now the bar is not operated.

The name comes from the Moqui (or Moki), which some archeologists believe to be an ancient tribe in the Anasazi-Hopi area at an unknown time period. Its museum exhibits include a rock collection, including fluorescent minerals, fossils, pottery, spear points, American Indian artifacts and art, dinosaur tracks (estimated to be over 140 million years old) to name a few things. Where to go: The cave lies along U.S. Route 89, about 5 miles north of Kanab. The cave itself extends roughly 200 feet into a Navajo Sandstone formation in the bottom of Three Lakes Canyon. Cave History: Moqui Cave actually isn't a natural cave at all. It was originally a sand mine used to obtain sand to make glass. The Indian lore and history may be authentic to the area, but the cave itself has nothing to do with the Moqui Indians or any other Indians. That component of the site is completely manufactured. Moqui Cave was once used by Anasazi people as a shelter and food store, which is further backed by archaeological digs in the area. It was rediscovered by white settlers in the 19th century, and served as a speakeasy in the 1920s during Prohibition. In 1951, the cave was purchased by Laura and Garth Chamberlain, who opened a tavern and dance hall the following year, and it became a tourist attraction and museum. Really a cool stopping off point and highly recommend!

This is one of the coolest (pun very intended) caves around. If you mixing caves, Hollywood history, glowing rocks, and a bar (in a cave!), then this place is for you. You'll get to walk through all sorts of wild displays - from named rocks in glass cases to dino bones and cowboy gear. As a bonus, this is a great place to explore when it's 110+ outside!

A lot of history in a little place and you can hike to the sand caves nearby. Always comfortable inside. Hope to go again off season
