The second time I stopped in, I was fully prepared to buy new shoes. It was Dream Cruise day, but we braved the insanity to stop in. No sign stated anything other than business. We were enthusiastically greeted by a gentleman who said nothing about being anything other than a normal business day. It wasn't a normal business day. At least I hope it wasn't. Moosejaw is awesome. Their employees are awesome, their website is awesome, their retail spaces are awesome, and even their catalog is awesome and very often hysterically funny! This is a company full of people who like to have a good time while doing their job. I've ordered a ton of climbing gear and clothes from them online - their prices are great and everything ships and arrives quickly - no complaints. I had an issue once when I ordered a crash pad that ended up having to come from the Birmingham location but I needed it for a bouldering trip I was taking in 4 days. I called them up and the guy I talked to was really cool about it and reassured me that he would make sure they put a rush on the order and would take care of it. Later on he sent me an email saying he called the shop to make sure it was getting shipped that day. It's the little things that make a big difference, and I'm a Moosejaw'er for life! Not only does Moosejaw have a fantastic selection of clothes for the rugged outdoorsmen in all of us, they also make kick-ass hoodies and the most comfy pants to lounge around in imaginable. I personally love being surronded by crunchy hippies that actually know what they're talking about. I think they've come to accept that most of the people (like myself) that come in are just trying to stay warm in the winter and don't really care that the jacket they're looking at could save their life if they attempt to scale Everest but they tell you anyway and I appreciate the product that much more. Rude and unprofessional. I won a pair of boots from them, and, to make a long story short, didn't get my prize. They were 100 percent unhelpful, and wouldn't answer my questions or concerns, and would not work with me to get my prize sent out, so I didn't get it. Unethical, deceptive. I looked them up on the Better Business Bureau site, and, big surprise, they have the lowest BBB rating possible, F. And every review on the BBB site of them is 1-star. Stay away. read more

Warning: do not buy anything online from Moosejaw. Back in May (it's the end of july now) I ordered a pair of birkenstocks that I had been gifted for my first Mother's Day. I ended up choosing Moosejaw because of their current promo and lifetime return and exchange policy. The selection and check out was easy enough. A week or so later I received the sandals and was super sad that I'd ordered the wrong size. No biggie, I filled out the return/exchange form and sent them out. Three weeks later I received the same exact size. Annoyed, I emailed customer service and never got a response. I emailed two or three more times, and nothing. Now it's been months. Their chat feature is blocked on my computer so I called their phone number. The woman who answered sounded stoned and just really didn't care about helping me. After telling her the issues, she said: MJ: "yea, I guess we tried to call you and the phone just rang and rang." (No it didn't. I have a cell phone and voice mail, so the issue mustve been on their line) "So because we didn't get an answer we just refunded you." Me: "Uh, why didn't you just send me the correct exchange?" MJ: "I think we were out of them. Yea. Can I help you with a different pair of sandals?" Me: "No, I don't think so." (because like hell am I going to deal with this again.) This is our favorite MooseJaw. We went to the other one in Troy. That one is ridiculously tiny. I think MooseJaw is becoming more popular. Our first time there last year the store was pretty empty even though they were having a sale. The salesmen are all very friendly and approachable. They have a wide variety. I always want to buy a new coat when I come here but I don't need to drop a couple hundred when I have a working winter coat. I did buy some wool tights to cover my legs (my coat goes to my butt). They also have a bathroom in the back. Score! read more

I am distrustful of any place that is run (overrun?) with teenagers, but I do support this company for being Michigan-based and somewhat cheeky. Have you ever called the store? I love the emails.. first off. Oh and their advertising. I have bought my goretex coat from them (online because I no longer live in MI) and used their online help. They helped me to pick out the right size with great easy (because i use it for cycling in the winter, but I am a small lady, so I wanted to know what size would be good, especially when I layer up). My coat is great.. and it was on sale! :) I have been into the store once and I bought a baselayer so that I can stay toasty while riding in the winter. Granted it was a really expensive layer (I could have gone with a non natural fiber, but decided keeping it natural was the way to go). The guy who helped me (and chatted with my dad which is really nice that he didnt have to bored out of his tears) was REALLY knowledgeable, and showed me the cheaper patagonia stuff first. I love shopping at Moosejaw, even if I'm only window shopping. Though this one has an awkward location, I appreciate that it is still centrally located and there are bubbly helpful employees working whenever I visit. I prefer shopping here over my local REI or Northface stores because of the atmosphere. They have it all figured out here. The employees are helpful. The clothing is overpriced, especially when I can go to Montana (my home state) and get it all for less and without sales tax. The last two order that I have made with MooseJaw have been wrong. First, the wrong color shirt. The second is much worse. Recently, I ordered a sweatshirt. A week later I received a backpack. I called to explained. They sent me a return label for the backpack and apologize for "the other shipping center". They also sent me the sweatshirt "Overnight" which I received 4 days later. I sent the sweatshirt back due to not liking the style. This was three weeks ago. I noticed that I still had the charge for the sweatshirt and a $7.95 shipping charge for the backpack. I chatted last week with a MooseJaw representative. They explains that they received the sweatshirt but not the backpack so will not be reimbursing me until they get the backpack. I found the original shipping label number for the the backpack. It's was delivered and signed for at MooseJaw over two week ago. What is going on over there?!?! read more

**Online Customer Service Review** The online sales and customer service leave much to be desired. After ordering a Merrell coat online and receiving a notice that it had shipped, nothing had arrived in over three weeks. I called to determine what the issue was, and the Customer Service rep deflected any sort of responsibility. She threw Merrell under the bus and informed me my issue lied with them (despite the fact that Moosejaw collected my payment). After I corrected her on what party is responsible for this mishap (with her continual attempts at interrupting me), she begrudgingly agreed to find out what had happened and get back to me. To no surprise, no one followed up with me and I had to call to find out what happened. I was informed that the product no longer exists and my card was refunded. After informing the rep that I was very disappointed that I (yet again) had to follow up, she said, "so, do you want anything else?" Looking to offer some constructive criticism to management, I asked to speak with her superior. She put me on hold and someone returned to the line five minutes later and said (with attitude), "Hello?"...I easily recognized that it was the same girl who put me on hold. She said management would not be available to speak. This was my worst online retail experience. What made it even more frustrating is that no one bothered to apologize or take on the slightest sense of sympathy for what happened. Additionally, I responded to a survey where I expressed my displeasure and checked "Yes" to wanting to be contacted...no follow-up. I felt like I was dealing with complete amateurs that possess zero business acumen and do not value future business opportunities...Part-time fast food workers offer more. **This is about their ONLINE Customer Service** Do NOT ever order from this company! First off they put the wrong products on their website, so what you actually get is NOT what you think you've ordered. Managers are completely rude and cut you off. After the manager agreed to refund my entire purchase, including shipping, two weeks later I got a mysterious charge from this company on my credit card, I called in and the manager argued with me and told my Chase was wrong, they did not charge my card in which I was forced to get on a three-way call with Chase only for them to tell him, YES they did charge my card. The manager proceeded to argue with me about it and tell me how he was going to credit my card even though there was no proof on their end they charged me, AFTER JP MORGAN CHASE told him, YES they did charge my card!!! Since I never heard back from Moosejaw on Monday (as promised)I got on the phone with customer service manager, Aymen, who was EXTREMELY rude, saying things in the phone to me like "My god....how long am I going to have to deal with this" he was intentionally yawning, I've never dealt with such rude people. I had honestly never been to this store until the Friends and Family sale was being promoted. We thought we would check it out as my boyfriend was looking for a new winter jacket, and I was just up for looking around. They are a smaller version of REI with a more personal feel (in my opinion). Although a bit upscale hipster-ish, we will be back for sure when we are in the market for this type of merchandise.
