My initial review of Marshall and his work was very positive. Here it is: Marshall and The Tile…read moreGuys did an amazing job on tiling our new shower. The substrate (installed by someone else) was a bit of a challenge but Marshall did an excellent job of professionalsetting the tile and making sure it was a smooth, even finish across the entire surface. Marshall was very efficient, his workmanship was outstanding and his price was very reasonable! I would definitely use Marshall and The Tile Guys Again and, without a doubt, will recommend him to anyone needing a tile job done right! Thanks, Marshall!! However, after the work was completed, I discovered an issue with the "shampoo nook" that was installed. The lower piece of tile was installed with a negative slope towards the back wall so water does not drain efficiently. Initially when I called Marshall he said he'd be out later in the week to assess the situation and what it would take fix. He didn't show up so after a couple of weeks I called him and he said he'd gotten sick and said he'd be out again after he completed another job which would have been another couple of weeks - that worked for me. Time went by and he didn't show so I started to call/text him - no response. A couple weeks later, I was having lunch in a place near our home and ran into Marshall. At that meeting, he said his job was just completing and again gave me an estimate that he'd be out in a few days to take a look. Again time went by and he didn't show up so I started to contact him again. After several days of no response, I sent him an e-mail and he finally responded by saying the substrate in the nook was installed wrong and he didn't "feel comfortable" looking at it (I have more than one witness - and pictures - to the fact that the substrate was installed with a slant towards to shower to accommodate drainage)! 1. If the substrate was wrong, why didn't he say anything when he was installing the tile in the nook? 2. Even if there was an issue, the base of the nook is one piece of tile which easily could have been built up in the back to provide the proper slope. 3. I'm nothing if not reasonable, I would have been happy to chat with Marshall to come up with a compromise - I.e. I'd have paid him to fix it! Bottom line is if you're in business, stand behind your work and certainly don't make multiple promises to show up to assess a problem and then change your mind and say it's the customer's fault without even looking at it. For this reason, I'm changing my 5 star rating to 2. Customer service and following through on your word matters.

Several years ago I had a couple of bathroom projects and got quotes from multiple contractors…read more Mr. Cool had one of the lowest prices and seemed like a good choice. Unfortunately, sometimes you get what you pay for. Overall, I just found him to be in a hurry and over time the tilework did not hold up. He did not want to deal with a slightly uneven floor so he used quick set to try and level it. Bad idea. Then on one weekday (when I wasn't there) he installed the tile and put in the grout right after it. It just didn't have time to set properly. I think someone might have stepped on a few tiles. So there were several places where the tile came up and had to be reattached and regrouted. In one of the shower stalls some of the decorative rock was not flush and a bit sloppy. The other unfortunate issue is that by raising the floor with the quickset, it created a messy transition for the floor trim when going from the carpeted area to the tiled area. I had to pay another contractor to repair the tilework a couple of times. There are still a few loose pieces underneath the vanity but it is incredibly difficult and expensive to deal with those. So if there are any takeaways, I'd say they are: 1) lowest price doesn't equal best value, 2) don't let your contractors do work when you're not home to watch them, and 3) don't let your contractors take shortcuts, and 4) avoid using quickset concrete in situations like this.

I called several references, including Tactile for quotes and scheduled an appt., with Terry Cool to meet with my daughter there. Terry came to her home and gave her a quote of $10,000 then changed to $13,000. My daughter told him that she would think about it, however, as the tile would take 4-6 wks from manufacturer. They later canceled the order in Aug. Her work hours are chaotic and with getting settled, she didn't call Terry back. On Sept., 4th, he called and left a voicemail on my daughter's phone to meet. She was at work & unable to respond. My daughter later spoke with him and apologized for not getting back to him as she was at work & unable to do so. He literally screamed at her & told her that she wasn't the only one having to work & that he was not going to be scammed! She tried to reason with him as she didn't understand what he was furious about, but he continued to berate her and making many threats. She then received a scathing text complaining of the $30 it cost him and wanting his money back. He accused her of running a SCAM and threatened her of being in cahoots with networks and getting his last dollar so he had to cancel his account after 35 yrs in business. He accused her of being from California with all the scammers and that they will all burn in HELL for it! He told her that she would suffer with a miserable tile job because she was cursed and had stolen from him! Terry then told her to let him hear about how her nightmare goes as he wants to know all about it. He also told her that he knows her son and he will remember him too! This is totally untrue as he lied! He has never seen or met her son. As her mother, I have made all the contacts for my daughter regarding her tile installation. What kind of business does Terry Cool own, to talk and berate potential customers in this manner? He is total scum with an anger management problem and has no protocol or PR for treating others. I obtained his information honestly through his own advertisement on Yelp. My daughter only met Terry briefly and didn't deserve these threats! BOYCOTT TERRY COOL AT TACTILE! BTW: I understand that he is going to California scammers to visit his daughter!! Such irony.
