After the eclipse he took me shooting with a group of people and let me shoot some of this guns, he even fired off a canon. There's no running water, which isn't a problem at all for most people. There isn't a public bathroom, also not a problem for most people. There is electricity, which is great for people with campers. The place is exactly what his website says it is. All of that and it's free. I kind of feeling like only an idiot or a jerk would review this place with anything less than 4 stars. The rooms are quaint and well kept and the suite I stayed in was themed from the Hobbit. The outside is colorful and whimsical in many ways. My two sons had a cat as company one of the evenings they sat out when it got dark out as it came by several times for pets and some lap time. The indoor cat Pistachio is a little cutie and very friendly.

Lava Flow Campground at Craters of the Moon National Monument is a gem -- as long as you don't get…read morethere in the heat of the summer. There's very little shade and heat radiates through the volcanic rock that is present throughout the monument. But in the spring and early summer and during the fall, it's a wonderful place to camp and it makes it so much more convenient to not have to rush through the monument because you have to drive somewhere else to spend the night. There's 42 sites to accommodate RVs, travel trailers, camper vans and tents. There's no electric, water or sewer connections, so camping is pretty basic. Drinking water spigots are located throughout the campground to fill jugs. No reservations are provided, so it's strictly first-come, first-served. While check-in is officially 2 p.m., rangers allowed campers to come in early to snag an open spot. The open campsites are easy to find: There's a receipt box under each campsite number. Payments are accepted for one day at a time and rangers remove the previous day's receipts early in the morning. So if there's an empty site without a receipt from that day, the campsite is available for snagging. National Park Service staff were friendly and a ranger suggested we drive in to the pull-through site we paid for the wrong way. That would allow our doors to open on the side looking out onto the rest of the campground instead of the hill behind it. That was very kind of her.

How the heck is the highest hike in Idaho not listed or reviewed on Yelp?!…read more Maybe because cell service is bad out here? Borah Peak is apparently known to locals as Mount Borah. It's a mostly non-technical hike. There is a short section of scrambling that will feel hard if you are used to only walking on trails. Anyone with even the tiniest amount of rock-climbing experience, will find it not only easy, but fun! The trailhead offers a few formal campsites. Importantly, it offers no water, be sure to bring more than you think you need! We were hit by multiple afternoon thunderstorms, but systems tend to roll in and out of this area quickly. There were also lots of wildfires in the area, which lent a subtle haze to everything. Summit views are incredible. Many of the surrounding mountains look much more impressive than Borah! There is also a summit sign that you can hold for your selfish summit selfies: it cleverly says "Borah Peak" on one side and "Mount Borah" on the other. I inform, you decide. I think it took us maybe 6 hrs up, and less than half that down. We camped at the trailhead after the hike. Most folks seem to get an alpine start on this peak. By that I mean about 4am. I know this, because I had to use the restroom and the formerly quiet campground had turned into Everest basecamp! If you are worried about being slow or about afternoon thunderstorms, this is a good choice. If you're on the faster side and like hiking out with a headlamp, I highly recommend a brunch start to beat the crowds.
