The next morning I stopped by to see if they could fix them and they were able to help me get my glasses repaired so I could be on my way. Everyone was friendly, the location was clean, and I would certainly go back there if I was in town and needed to!

I went in with concerns and was given zero explanation to what they were seeing on examination or why the myriad of suggestions were being given to me to try. The providers were looking at a computer when talking to me through most of the discussion. When they did turn to look at me, I could not see them as they did not offer for me to put back in my contacts or glasses. I went in with concerns about blurred vision. I was told my examination was normal. I subsequently went elsewhere where the other business did a much more thorough exam with fluorescein dye and were able to clearly explain that my eyes were not producing the normal amount of tears to lubricate my eyes. At eyecare associates, my concerns were dismissed, I feel I did not have their full attention, and was given very poor explanations. Secondly, the front desk staff was incredibly condescending and unprofessional. If you have no eye concerns, this is a fine place to go. I went here for 3 years. However, the moment I had a concern come up, my experience was absolutely terrible.

I decided to try a new spot to get my eyes checked and chose the office on 45th. I won't mention…read morethe doctor's name, but I left very disappointed. From the start, I felt pressured to switch from the monthly contacts I've worn for years (with no issues) to a completely different brand of daily lenses I didn't want. I trusted the doctor's recommendation, even though I didn't have my old prescription with me at the time. During the exam, he gave me a new trial brand that immediately felt uncomfortable. I decided to give them a fair try the next day, but by midday my vision was fuzzy, my eyes strained, and I developed a terrible headache. I called the clinic, and to their credit, they got me back in, waiting 15 min before anyone helped me. This time I brought my old prescription--yet instead of re-checking my eyes, the doctor just put me in the same prescription but with a different brand again and sent me on my way! At that point, I couldn't help but ask myself: what did I just pay $300 for?! On top of that, the atmosphere was uncomfortable. Each time I visited, I sat ignored for 10-15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. Honestly, the environment felt more like a coffee shop for retirees than a professional clinic. In the end, I threw away the trial contacts they insisted on and ordered myself the brand I actually wanted from 1-800 Contacts. Problem solved--but unfortunately, not thanks to this office.

I went to Dr. Tufte for a few years from 2012 to 2015 Every…read moretime I arrived to check in at the Broadway location Dr. Tufte's wife, Deb, at the front desk seemed more intrerested in visiting with people that were already there than in checking me in. I remember one instance in particular where she was visiting with another patron about a car incident/accident that her son had been involved in. Her son was concerned about the other persons insurance coverage or something like that and she made an offhand comment about the other person most probably being some 15 dollar an hour worker somewhere and this was to be expected from someone like that.. At that time I was working a custodial job making a little less than 15 dollars an hour, It was extremely enlightening for me to hear her observations on the effects of low and moderate income levels on a persons charachter and integrity. The last time I ordered glasses from Dr. Tufte I could not see clearly out of them and I had to have them remade 5 times. I just could not see out of them. Dr. Tufte made it clear he was not interested in working with me in resolving the issue and that he had refracted me correctly and that I should work with the the opticians so that they could adjust the glasses I could not see clearly out of. After the 5th remake of these glasses the lab refused to keep remaking the lenses, at that point Dr. Tufte refunded my money and dismissed me as a patient. I took the prescription Dr. Tufte had written for me and I went to Sanford eye clinic There I saw Dr Edwards and It was determined my prescription was off significantly and I was issued a new prescription and ordered a pair of glasses i could see out of with little problem. It is important to note that I have a difficult prescription and some uncommon eye problems. Dr Tufte is a competent optometrist and I felt he gave me thorough eye exams. He correctly identified the increased intraocular pressure in my eyes and gave me a referral to an eye surgeon for laser surgery to have it mitigated. Having said that, if you have a complicated eye glass prescription I would not recommend him. He is unwilling to investigate all avenues of what the solution to your problem may be ( such as fitting you with trial lenses from a lens kit, which it turned out is ALWAYS advisable when dealing with prisms in glasses. A phoropter refraction is NOT the same as wearing glasses and the results you get from it may differ significantly from a refraction using trial lenses.) It is also worth noting that they price their glasses frames at what I consider a ridiculous premium. They sell frames there for up to three and four hundred dollars that can be purchased online often for hundreds of dollars less for the same frame. As an example I purchased a frame from the office for $275.00 dollars that I was able to order directly online for $85.00. I under stand making a profit but an almost 200 dollar mark up on a pair of plastic frames seems a bit extreme to me. You are paying for a boutique atmosphere less than Stellar service and some cookies and brownies they keep out for patrons to snack on. I would recommend either Sanford eye clinic or the Hillmer eye clinic if you have strabismus (crossed eyes) , amblyopia (lazy eye) or a need for prisms in your glasses. I will reitterate that Dr. Tufte is a competent Optometrist and you will likely have a satisfactory if overly expensive experience with him if you have fairly common issues with your eyesight. If you have difficult to diagnose problems or less than common problems that require your optometrist to be more involved with exploring what you need and what your options are with your vision correction needs this is not the man for you to visit.
