I am not a resident of Fargo, or anywhere nearby. I was visiting for a work trip, and had some time to tool around the super cute downtown strip of Fargo. After stopping in for a late-morning donut, I noticed EoB across the street and thought I would stop in.
For months, I have been searching for something very specific. I was looking for a simple, perfectly-round frame for my next set of glasses. It sounds simple, but I had looked EVERYWHERE. I lie in Chicago and had checked a number of franchise and boutique optical outlets and even looked at two different places while in China. The only thing I could find were larger, hippy-style glasses and I wanted something very turn-of-the-century.
I only had one foot in the door when I noticed what looked like a small assortment of mostly acrylic frames. I was about to turn around and walk back out, but before I could pivot, any young woman engaged me. When you know what you're looking for, it's easy to scan the inventory and determine pretty quickly that it's not there. However, I didn't want to be rude, so I described exactly what I was looking for. With no hesitation, she went to one of the display cases, opened a drawer under one and then a drawer under another, and pulled out two potential options. I was actually a little stunned. She made it seem so simple.
I ruled out one frame pretty quickly, but the other was a very likely match--except it was silver and I wanted gold. One of the optometrist started to contribute to the hunt, and soon, the two of them had both invested in my search and were referencing frames online.
I explained that I was not a resident, so ordering and/or returning for a follow-up exam wouldn't be possible, so I was only looking for something I could purchase that day. They were both very concessionary and didn't mind continuing to help me despite my situation.
It turns out, not only did my frame come in gold, if I purchased them as sunglasses, they were half the retail price. The doctor wrote down all the information for me and happily sent me on my way. They were incredibly helpful and all this knowing that I wouldn't be a paying customer that day. read more
