Reservations, check in, parking assistance, grounds keeping, maintenance - EVERYTHING !! I have never seen a harder working team of people, raking, mowing, watering, and going the extra mile to just be good humans!! All that said is this place perfect?, No. - but is there truly a perfect in-city RV campground? No there is not. The main problem for me is the noise from Cerritos Blvd. Nothing can stop this as young New Mexico drivers seem to be "praised" and "adored" for removing their mufflers from their cars and racing away from every stop light. All this leads to my initial point. This campground was likely plotted in the 1950's when this part of Sante Fe was ranches way outside of the metro and road noise was never an issue... The vintage-ness exudes from this place and provides it with its charm - It brings back memories of road trips in the backwards facing seat way in the back of the Country Squire Station Wagon and Olds Vista cruiser wagon - Even visits to summer camp in the 1960/70's. This campground is actually a tiny piece of Americana that will be lost in a few months, never to be again. Beautiful tress to be eliminated and vintage adobe buildings to be razed. If my information is correct, this is the last summer, and this site will fall to the hands of developers to build another ugly mini mall or faceless and devoid of personality condo buildings. A sad farewell to the place and to all the people who have kept this place all these years - PLEASE DO STAY HERE until it all ends. I am unsure of the dates.

The views are beautiful because you are overlooking the open field. The tickets are kind of pricey for what you get, especially since the ride still happens despite rain. Luckily the day I went, the weather was perfect. But you do need to gamble with the weather if you want to book tickets in advance.

You get a smaller than airline cup of inexpensive champagne on arrival and that's it. The trip is one hour each way and the first 30 minutes is through Santa Fe neighborhoods with the view into people's back yards, graffiti covered walls, and trash strewn tracks. When you get to the greenery it's nice, but just the typical desert scene. They stop and you watch the sunset, we were fortunate to see a big beautiful harvest moon. Our car had a tipsy group of rowdy young women who were so loud you couldn't hear your own friends talk. (Not the staff's fault and didn't really bother me). Snacks and drinks are expensive given the already expensive ticket prices. The crew were friendly and there were a husband and wife musician couple playing what I would describe as folk music. They were entertaining. It was a good experience because we got to enjoy a special time with friends! I can't really recommend it, but when you read the other reviews, a lot of people love it. So make up your own mind, not for me.

I was on a train travel adventure and managed to get a little stranded at the Lamy station (my…read morefriend's car broke down en route to come retrieve me, and she was still hours away), but it ended up being such a bright spot in the middle of my trek. First of all, the station itself is really cool. It's tucked up near some beautiful hills and the trees surrounding the picnic area provide lovely shade and make it a picturesque place to kill a little time. Inside, there is a little waiting room with super cool art and signage, and in the back there is a cozy pub with a great beer selection and even a food menu. They have WiFi that they freely share, and that afternoon there was a guitarist playing mellow tunes while folks just hung out. I'm not sure how I got so lucky to find such a gem of a place to post up; I spent much of the time marveling at my good fortune (and drinking a tasty beer). As cool as the station is, the real find was the people who staff and patronize it. You couldn't ask for a more welcoming or warm group of humans. As soon as I asked the station master about alternative modes of transit, my plight made the rounds. Before I knew it I had complete strangers offering me rides to various points so I could meet up with my friend. And while that at first might sound a little sketch, I can honestly say that it was just well-intentioned kindness. There is a palpable sense of community that permeates the entire place, and one can't help but soak it up. I ended up accepting a ride from a lovely gentleman who was on his way north with his college-aged daughter. What could have been a stressful travel delay actually ended up being an unexpected but wonderful mini adventure, and I managed to discover a magical little realm in a small train station seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Lessons (less learned than) reiterated and reinforced: the journey is just as important as the destination, accept the kindness of strangers and then turn around and offer it to others, and when possible, stop and have a beer and a chat at the Amtrak Lamy Station.
