Visit Date: September 3, 2020…read more This seems like the only decent place to get some vacation souvenirs from Vermont, besides a little gift shop we found by the Quechee Gorge. Hubs needed souvenirs for his family and I had a few more people to get for my family. I also let our son haphazardly pick out some things to buy as well. The selection here is very large and your bound to find souvenirs for everyone on your list.

As you walk through the store, there were nice displays of John McLeod's handy work of bowls and cutting boards he's done. We loved them all but ended up getting a few bowls and a cutting board. It was beautifully made and we love that we can say we got it in Vermont, during our trip. Needless to say, we spent quite a bit of money in this store, but the quality of the stuff they had were just that great.

Vermont winters can be grey, dark and cold at times but it's super cozy shops like this that will sparkle your life right back up. Walking in you get hit with a wave of fragrant incense, and welcomed by Buddha statues and large amethyst crystals. Wind Chimes and light catchers crystals are hanging from the ceiling. You'll find everything from incense (sticks, palo santo, incense cones, resins, sage, sweetgrass), to healing crystals (on strings, tumbled stones, geodes, pyramids), to books and CDs. They also have singing bowls, candles, jewelry, and some beads for those crafty and looking to make their own jewelry or other project. In the back section of the store where the books and CDs are is where they have private card readings. (One day I'll get to a one!) I ended up getting a strand of labradorite beads right before they closed, so I'm looking forward to the next visit when I have more time!

The Vermont Maple Outlet is one of those places where you instantly feel like you've stumbled on…read morethe heart of Vermont. The interior is cute and well organized making it simple to browse! They have a little of everything maple -- syrup, candies, jams, gifts -- and it's the kind of shop where you end up finding something for yourself and something to bring home. But the real highlight? The "creamies." Hands down some of the best I've ever had. The swirl of blackberry and maple was absolutely perfect -- sweet, tangy, and creamy in all the right ways. It's the kind of treat that makes you wish summer in Vermont would last forever. Whether you're a maple lover or just passing through, the Vermont Maple Outlet is worth the stop. A true taste of Vermont in every sense. Service is quick and to the point.

The place was actually bigger inside than I had thought so. On the right side from the entrance, is where all the cute knickknacks are found--toys, mugs, cards, stuffed animals and birds, children's books, posters, and the like. On the left side is where a lot of more fragile merchandise is found-- glass orbs, ceramic ware, pottery, sun catchers, Vermont products and souvenirs, etc. At the back part is a whole clothing section where you can find souvenir shirts and sweaters, a wall of Crocs, and a variety of Minnetonka moccasins. And of course, green frog toys in all forms are also sold here. Stuff sold here can be found elsewhere I'm sure. But, this makes for a good stop in case you are lacking time to shop around and are already headed out for the ferry.

I really wanted to love this place... and did up to a point. They have all kinds of things to…read morebuy... some are touristy and souvenir in nature, but other things are interesting, fun or even pretty. The problem I had with Stowe Mercantile is that I found out they severely price-gauge the consumer. Let's be honest... I'm sure I've overpaid for plenty of stuff in my time. Of course I have, and I'd do it again if I really want to. However, something just rubbed me the wrong way in this place. I was looking at some "Princess" game for my granddaughter. I saw the retail price was $14, and the store sticker price was $21 or $22. I just put the game down when I saw that... and they were blatant about it... didn't even try to cover over the retail price. They placed the store sticker right next to the original price. That was a bridge too far, and I just got pissed off and didn't want to support this store... so I didn't.

I really liked this store, from the aesthetic to the ethos of the company. And shockingly enough, everything was priced correctly, not marked up for tourists or because they are trying to make huge profit margins off of the less fortunate. One day I'll think about that bicycle pizza cutter as I'm slicing my home made pizza and a single tear will roll down my cheek at the things missed. But really, there is so much in this highly organized shop and you could spend a good amount of time perusing the aisles, finding that special thing you've always wanted but never knew you needed.
