I would never recommend this company to even my worst enemy. They were hired to do a straightforward interior paint job (i.e. paint the walls white) and after weeks of supposed work, they left this house fully unpainted, which we didn't realize until the day before we were scheduled to move in. After calling the owner Steve Stiles to the house to go over the absolute waste of space and nothingness that his workers did at the house, all he did was ask us to move our move-in day so that they can redo everything (we did not) and he kept all of our money. There was also black paint that was splattered on the wall from their sloppiness and Steve tried to cover it up by saying "sometimes old paint rises up from the surface". He is a psycho, pathological liar nutjob. He came back to paint over 3 spackled spots in one of the bedrooms but at that point, all the furniture was in and the whole house needed to be painted. There was nothing we could do. Even after a couple of years I am blessed every day with having to see all of the dings, dents, scratches, and unpainted spackle left all over my house, including peeling paint on doors that they attempted to paint last minute as well as the paint stains they left on our new hardwood floors. It has been a traumatizing experience, even up to now. Steve Stiles and his workers lack integrity, character and a work ethic. They are crooks and there is a reason they do not have any current reviews. Do not hire them! read more

First the good things. Do I think they are honest? Yes. Do I think they are nice? Yes. And by they I mean the owner Steve and his employees. It goes downhill from here. I contracted for new kitchen cabinet doors, new quartz countertops, and to paint the entryway, kitchen, living room dining room, and some other areas. It all got done finally and looks nice. It was originally scheduled to be done in 1and 1/2 weeks but took way longer. The problem was in the "doing". I'll include a picture of my kitchen cabinets. They are very plain. It took forever to get it right. The doors wouldn't fit or close I was also told by Steve they could change out my plates and light sockets as mine were bone colored and my new paint was white. Omg. Had to get an electrician and it turned out the person doing the socket exchange didn't have a clue. Ok so in the long run I'm ok with this because they are nice and nice counts for a lot and would not have given them a poor Yelp review, I just would not have done one. So my bad, I hired them to paint 2 rooms and a short hallway downstairs figuring no cabinets right? They were to come today. When today was scheduled I doubled checked with them because my housekeeping service comes on this day and I would have to cancel the service (I gave them a 1 week notice). No problem they would be here today. When I checked on the time this AM I was told they had a scheduling issue that they forgot to tell me about and couldn't come till Wednesday. Nope. No thanks. They thought because I'm retired they could jerk me around. There are things you need to do when someone is coming to paint. Pictures off walls, things moved off tables etc. lots to do to get ready. I want a company that is as respectful of my time as I am of theirs. But they didn't even bother to let me know. In their words their was a miscommunication and the office should have contacted me. Fortunately I hadn't given them any money. Caveat Emptor. Buyer beware. You've been warned. read more

We hired Moondance for painting the exterior of our house in San Francisco and highly recommend them due to their professional manner and customer service. We had very specific needs due to chemical sensitivities, so the materials we had to use were tested such as the paint, primer, caulk, etc. Steve and his crew were very receptive and accommodating to our requests, and even offered different materials that they thought would work better than the ones we had in mind. Most importantly, I felt that they listened to our requests to only use the materials we approved so that our family would feel safe knowing our painting project would be void of unwanted VOC's. I also appreciated their attention to detail and care in their work. At one time, they ran by a change to the color of my garage door as they thought it would be better, drawing from past experiences. Even though it was a bit more work to paint over what they already did, it meant a lot that they cared enough about the end product to bring that up and take care of it. MoonDance Painting did a great job painting the exterior of my home in San Rafael! I got 10 estimates and chose MoonDance because Steve, the owner, was the only one of the 10 professional painters I talked to who actually seemed to understand why our house paint was peeling from a previous painter's job only 5 years prior (excessive use of bondo/spackle on a sunny exposure). I really wanted this paint to last, and Steve's knowledge of paint, his guarantee, and his sense of humor won me over. In terms of value, his quote was in the middle of the 10 estimates, and so seemed extremely reasonable. They fixed a lot of dry-rot around our windows, and the inevitable issues that came up were handled rationally and fairly. I highly recommend MoonDance Painting! read more

My husband and I recently hired MoonDance Painting to repaint the exterior of our house in Oakland, and we couldn't be happier. They did a really beautiful, thorough job and we would absolutely use them again. Here's why: - Our house was built before 1978 and we have a 6 month old baby at home, so we especially wanted to hire painters who would use lead-safe practices and minimize our daughter's exposure to lead dust. All painters are *supposed* to follow the EPA's guidelines when working on pre-1978 houses, but in fact, many of them don't. MoonDance does, though, and they also took some extra precautions for us like sealing off the windows with plastic before doing any scraping (which isn't required by law, but which helped ensure that we could stay in our house while the painting was being done without worrying about lead dust finding its way inside). The crew kept the site immaculate -- they covered the ground around the house with plastic drop-cloths while they worked, put up a clever temporary barrier along one side of our yard to protect our neighbors' plantings, and cleaned everything up at the end of each day. As an avid gardener, I really appreciated how careful they were not to damage the plants around our house. I expected some plants to get trampled during a project like this, but actually, all our plants look just fine. We also really like that they use environmentally friendly practices and minimize their water use (no unnecessary pressure-washing or dumping paint-contaminated wastewater in the ground, as most painters do). - The crew, Alfonso and Christian, did a beautiful job. They patched the stucco where it had cracked, fixed some dryrot in the eaves, and painted everything with great attention to detail. And they were really nice to work with. We were at home most of the time and my parents were visiting from the east coast, so we had a full house, and Alfonso and Christian were really thoughtful about working around us, checking in when they had questions or needed to access the inside, and letting us and our dog get in and out of the house easily. They even carried our baby stroller up a flight of stairs one day when they saw my parents had their hands full. - The owner, Steve, is very communicative and responsive, and he took the time to check in frequently (even while he was on a family camping trip) and answer all our questions. When we had a last-minute change of heart about the paint color for our front steps (at 9 pm the night before they were going to be painted), we texted Steve and he made the change. - In addition to the exterior of the house, MoonDance also patched some peeling paint on our kitchen cabinets and repainted a built-in linen closet that hadn't been repainted in many years. They did a lovely job here too, and they did it much more cheaply than two other painters we'd gotten bids from. We're so happy with their work and recommend them wholeheartedly. read more
