I chose Divas Painting for my larger 3,000 sf house painting project because they had done such a great job on my smaller condo kitchen project last fall. Luis Divas is thorough, friendly, fair, meticulous, reasonable and honest. It is all about the prep (masking, protecting, stripping, sanding, priming, etc.) and Luis is a master at it. When he finishes cabinets and you run your hand across it, it feels like sleek, smooth plastic. We hired them to paint the walls, ceiling, and trim of our living/dining room and bedroom with vaulted ceilings. They did a great job overall. However, they did not remove all outlet covers to paint behind, and in a couple of small places, the paint is chipping minimally after only two weeks. We had Luis here recently to remove, then install new baseboards in our den and guestroom. This was part two of our "baseboard project." Luis did such a fantastic job there was no doubt that we'd hire him again after he installed prior baseboards. Then, he and Santos painted the walls and trim. Very nice! They arrived punctually and cleaned up after the job was done each day. One thing that I failed to do was to request explicitly that Luis paint the baseboards in a small bathroom, Only one portion of the baseboards was done; no fault of Luis. I have had Luis do work at my house over the last several years. I have recommended him to my friends but I don't know what happened. This time he asked a more than 50% deposit which I have paid and less than 50% of the work has been done. It seems he has overbooked himself or overextend his cash flow. His work has always been good but I have been a loyal customer and I feel I am being cheated. I don't see any recent reviews which tells me folks don't have good things to say because I know he is busy. I just want my job finished. The job was finished and the work was good - as usual - but I had to push to get every step scheduled. This is not the service I am used to from Luis and just FYI - it is against the law in California to ask for more than 10% as a down payment up to a maximum of $1000.00 read more

If you don't feel like reading it, here's what you need to know: * Luis is a consummate professional - super friendly and totally trustworthy * He is an incredible painter, knows his stuff, and cares deeply about his work * His rates are insanely reasonable (like beyond - please tip him - he's not expecting one at all, but I think you should) * He was super sweet to my dog - even played with him (he's just a really good guy) First, let me say that I am writing my first yelp review ever because I am so impressed by Luis and his work! I hired him after seeing the incredible job he and his team did on my sister and brother-in-law's home, particularly their kitchen cabinets. He quoted them half the price of other painters, and the work was absolutely beautiful. I recently had my home completely remodeled after suffering a flood/mold loss. I loved how everything turned out except for my master bath. I have brand new gray tile floors and a white vanity with gray countertop. I was so overwhelmed by all the decisions that came with my sudden and complete renovation that I had the bathroom painted the same neutral beige color I painted most of the house. It didn't work with the gray fixtures at all. I lived with it for a few months and finally couldn't stand it any longer and contacted Luis. He was able to come out to give me a quote early the next week in the evening, which was convenient since I didn't have to take time off work to meet with him. He gave me a quote that was half what I was expecting, and was able to come paint the very next day. He also made a recommendation on the sheen (it was originally a semi-gloss and he said I should do a satin - he was so right), and I should mention that he is so incredibly friendly and personable, I had no qualms about having him here working by himself while I was at work. He was able to squeeze me in so quickly that I kind of rushed into a color. When it was done, the work was perfect but I wasn't sure about the color. I lived with it for a day and texted him to let me know I needed to change it. He came on a Saturday to repaint. He cares so much about his work that he wasn't going to charge me! I practically had to force him to take a check - he came on a Saturday to fix my mistake, not his, and painted all over again - I was going to pay him! He just said he wants his clients to be happy. Long story long, I may have changed the color one more time (who knew grays were so freaking difficult!) and I am now completely obsessed with my bathroom! Luis was so patient and accommodating with me, and I could see that he was genuinely happy when I was so happy with my bathroom color. Luis is an absolute delight to work with, and he is a very talented painter. And he seriously could be charging twice what he does! Luis did a superb job of repairing and refinishing our exterior stairs and three decks under very difficult conditions. We were under a tight deadline because we had an appraisal scheduled for a mortgage refinancing and we wanted the place to look really sharp. We have an unbelievable number of stairs going up to the house and then even more leading out to the back patio. As it happened, temperatures that week were the highest of the year, reaching the high nineties. The job called for constant running up and down the stairs, but Luis and his very helpful assistant weren't phased in the least. There were several sections of rotted wood that need to be replaced, and Luiz demonstrated his considerable carpentry skills while saving the existing structure. Another contractor who bid on the work was going to charge us six times Luis' estimate to replace everything, which would have been totally unnecessary. The final refinishing was a work of art -- Luis insisted on applying up to three coats in spots, without going over budget. The place just glowed when the appraiser walked up all those stairs a week later. Luiz had a big role in making that happen. We'd hire him again in a New York minute. read more

I have a 3BR/2BA rental property and needed the interior to be repainted entirely for a new tenant - all the bedrooms, baths, kitchen, and living areas. Due to a scheduling mishap I ended up with just one week to find a painter and get the job done before the tenants moved in. Luis was terrific - he returned my call the same day, met me at the house the following day, and was able to arrange his crew of painters to come in and get the job done at a very reasonable price. They were juggling other jobs as well but worked long days to make sure my project was completed in time. He also did a great job of sanding and repainting the back deck as well as the concrete walkway. Last but not least, his suggestion to powerwash the exterior was spot on and made a big difference in giving the house a facelift. Luis is the best! We found him here on yelp. I interviewed a bunch of other painters and he was by far the most professional and the nicest (which is a bonus!). He put dry wall up to make us a kitchen pantry out of a big closet in our kitchen that we used to keep the furnace in. He then patched up and painted our 2 closets that were filled with big old holes. He worked quickly and efficiently and was super respectful of our baby napping - which he really didn't need to be, but he did anyway! He didn't rush the job which was great, so he patched one day, primed a different day and then painted another day - this way everything had time to dry. He cleaned up each time. We've had painters here before who patch and paint in the same day and end up doing a sloppy job because there's no time for drying in between. Luis even took his shoes off each time he came into the house, even though I told him it wasn't necessary when he was working, considering he had to run back and forth to his truck to get supplies.
