Took us a bit of time to figure out how to get to his stand in the basement but it was worth the effort. Best pickles ever! Too bad we can't get them on the east coast. Super nice guy to boot!

Cute little counter in the basement of the Ford building. The owner was super nice and the pickles were crunchy and fantastic!! At $5 for a giant jar, we were very happy with the price. He has super spicy which won my husband over, dill which were unique and delicious and my favorite (more like an east coast pickle) the Half Brine. For the guy who said they were $8 at New Seasons, idk if they are, but go support the little local guy and save money in the meantime! All groceries charge more than buying from the source AND they pay the artisan less too. Boo!

A place that will forever remind me of the quirkiness of Portland. A man and his love for pickled vegetables. Located in the basement of a building, you will find a man offering you some of the most delicious pickles I've had. Not only your normal pickles, but also pickled cauliflower, carrots, and others. They're sold in $5 jars, not airport carry-on friendly. He let us buy individual pickles at $1 a piece. Bonus: Awesome t-shirt that you can get for $20. This place is cash only.

Posing with a classic and a hot dill pickle, to go

Definitely stop here if you've watched Portlandia. Moonbrine is a small counter in a basement, but don't underestimate it! They offer two types of dill pickles, classic and hot. Ask for samples to see if you can handle the spicy burn! They also have some other less-recognizable pickles, like beet and carrot. I have this place four stars because I wish they offered smaller jars for sale. One pickle hoes a long way, and an entire jar of them seemed like a little too much to tackle. Ask for an individual pickle for $1 in a plastic bag and eat immediately!

The pickles, dill and spices are really well balanced and the brine is excellent as a marinade for chicken!

Like other reviewers share,…read moreit's not the place to go for your regular grocery resupply, but for items where you want something unique, elevated, and special, this is the place. The market is well-stocked with unique shelf items from around the world-- pastas, jams/jellies, biscuits, oils, vinegars, tinned fish, and legumes. They have a vast deli case with meats, cheeses, and prepared items. The meat and fish counter is magazine-worthy and they feature some hot-food specials using meats and sausages from their counter. The wine selection is expansive-- we even saw a few bottles from the Loire region of France which we had the great fortune decades ago to visit family friends. It was the produce area that really made my heart sing and my eyes bug out. The produce section is colorful, artfully arranged. I could practically feel the antioxidants beaming into my body! I have never seen SO many varieties of alliums in my life. They had four different types of "green onion" (scallion, green garlic, calçot, and red spring onion), plus mahoosive leeks. We had a great experience with service which was friendly, helpful, and prompt. Since we were out and about doing other things we didn't get anything that required refrigeration like cheese, meats or produce, but we did have sandwiches from the deli case which were tasty. I look forward to going back for some of the produce and cheeses.
