I want to landscape my courtyard and am confused on what to do. I decided to go to Moon Nurseries on Tule Springs. I am sure I looked confused strolling around when a salesman Philip approached me. Philip helped make what I thought was going to be a stressful situation fun and a learning experience. He was very patient with me, answered all my questions and gave me some great suggestions for my plants and trees for my courtyard. I took many pictures of things that he suggested to me. So I could go home and review everything Philip and I went over today. Moon Nursery had a good selection of plants & trees. He even offered to come over and see the area I was going to be landscaping. I liked that he wasn't a pushy salesman. Personable, knowledgeable, and patient. First off, I don't like that they operate as car salesman, but that's neither here nor there for this review. You see, what happened was.. The salesman showed us the small 4ft tangerine tree we were looking for, then asked us if we wanted to come inside to talk to the finance crew to see if they would honor a 4th of July sale early. We weren't there to buy that day, but thought we'd see what kind of deal they could make. Tree was $400. Delivery $350 Planting $100 I said Oh that's perfect, because I don't need delivery assistance as I drive a Ram truck. He said, No you don't understand, the delivery fee is to deliver my 6 men out there to plant it, plus the fuel cost. Six men to plant a tree smaller than me is wild, lol. I declined this. Then he asked me what my budget was, I told him $500. He said oh okay, well we can sell you the tree at $350, $100 to plant, and $350 for delivery and you'd be in budget. We had an emergency right then that we needed to leave for so I did not get the opportunity to tell him how fucking stupid he is for thinking $800 is in a $500 budget. As well as being patronizing. This is the second time I've had a negative experience at this location. read more

Moon Valley Nursery is one of those places you call thinking they'll have everything... and while they don't carry certain things, what they do offer makes up for it. First off/quick tip: they don't sell rock which is why I called in the first place. So if you're calling around for landscaping rock or gravel, you'll need to check somewhere else. That said, they specialize in the stuff that actually brings your yard to life. I called just to get information, and the over the phone customer service was great. They were helpful, patient, and actually answered questions instead of rushing me off the phone. That alone makes a difference, especially when you're calling multiple places trying to compare prices and options. This isn't your basic nursery...it's more for people who are serious about upgrading their landscaping. If you want mature trees and a finished look faster, this is a solid option. read more

Moon Valley Nurseries' tree insurance program is such a great program. Trees are a big investment and Moon's tree insurance guarantees the health of your trees. If the tree dies they will replace the tree at no further cost to you. The program includes home visits from their tree care specialist Erik Reed. He is phenomenal! My Japanese Blueberry tree was on the brink of death. I followed the advice he gave me and the tree made a full recovery and is thriving now. What went well? Everything! Late last year I called and spoke to a young man by the name of Houghton. I explained that we were having issues with our Italian Cypress trees and I couldn't get any decent information as to why they seemed to be dying. We called other nurseries wanting to talk to an arborist and they said you can talk to so and so they know about trees. No, they don't. So when I spoke yo Houghton it was another story. He actually knew exactly what we were experiencing without seeing our trees. He even said I can come by in 15 minutes to look at them to confirm my suspicions. He showed up and inspected each tree and explained what needed to be done. We followed his instructions to the tee. Unfortunately, after a year and a half of spending a hundred dollars a month with Tru Green and now with Houghton's suggestions we still lost 10 of our 30' trees. We were devastated. But Houghton had given us some great advice and as soon as spring came we visited him onsite. We bought several Bay Laurels and our backyard is back to beautiful again. Besides Houghton's knowledge and great service the entire Moon Valley team is extremely nice, helpful and obviously dedicated to great customer service and support. That includes their delivery service as well. Run don't walk to your nearest Moon Valley Nursery location. I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

The long driveway into Moon Valley Nursery lets you leave the desert for a minute and enter an oasis with a canopy of full-grown trees. This review is about the outstanding customer service they provide. Bought a small citrus, a 4 foot Meyer Lemon toddler which I was eager to nurture and watch produce. The tree had other ideas, flipping me the bird and dying within a week. Young plants seem to need more water in triple digit weather. So I went back to Moon Valley's office with photos of lemons that resemble brown chestnuts, wilted leaves, and a tree trunk the diameter of a car antenna from yesteryear. The really nice guys in charge, Dave and Thomas, talked to me about the planting process. "You were watering it every day and giving it gallons, correct?" "Yes, of course," I lied. "I watered it, um...regularly. I hate to suggest this, but maybe you sold me a lemon?" Dave and Thomas (no relation to the Wendy's guy) were then kind enough to take back the deceased tree, credit me toward a teenager-sized upgrade, then have it delivered and planted properly with mulch and fertilizer...as a courtesy, for what amounts to my lack of gardening skills. On top of that, they gave me a one year warranty so if the new tree gets pee'd on and soaked with ammonia by neighborhood cats or succumbs to dehydration or any other form of unprovoked attack, Moon Valley will come right out and replace it with no questions asked. Or maybe at most, they'll ask if I water it. Must admit I'm feeling a bit guilty knowing how much my purchase will drain Lake Mead, but with all the bushels of fruit this lemon tree should produce, it'll easily pay for itself by 2090. Go to Moon Valley Nursery if you want to buy a tree or maybe just go for an enjoyable walk through nature. They even give you a bottle of cold water, simply for being you.
