It's fine for weekend warriors slumming it, but not so good for those of us who have to contend with rehearsal space as a work environment. At Complete I get to rehearse in large rooms with good gear, for rates that don't eat me alive. Top it off with cool staff and a location in a very pleasant corner of Brooklyn and you're on to something very good. As good as it gets? As good as I've seen in the last decade or so. Worth the schlep.

This might get a little confusing, but Photomag was actually bought by Post Works several years…read moreback. It is now an imprint of Post Works, their midtown division (Post Work's main place is in south Soho), yet it still has a general website and keeps the name depending on what listing you're looking at. Anywho, I actually never used this place pre-Post Works takeover, but I can tell you under the new ownership, its a really nice place to get all of your video post services done, and the student rate for developing was very reasonable. This place is for post production on video, whether it be transfers, developing and processing, and I think they have editing suites available as well. Let's start with the basics, when you walk in there is a lovely and gorgeous receptionist to greet you, and small offices are occupied by professional looking staff. And they are professional and incredibly helpful (this is the one thing that separates post houses from production houses, the people actually are decent human beings). They set up a time for us to do a telecine transfer, and while I was waiting I took a look around. There are a few huge transfer rooms, as well as a stocked kitchen with snacks and goodies, a lounge, a pool table, plasmas, leather couches, etc. It's typical so that directors and clients can feel at home. It's a very posh space. Developing is on a different floor, the 17th if I remember, and the staff there is just as helpful, if a bit more hurried. Slow them down, and they'll oblige; they are very fast and as I stated earlier, the rates were good, I ended up paying a suspiciously modest amount for a Super 16 development, and I pushed it 2 stops (which I don't think cost more anyway). Coming back down to finalize plans, you are greeted again by the lovely and gorgeous receptionist, one time her name was Rachel, the next I couldn't remember, but anywho..... When I did the supervised transfer, we had Scott 1 (there was another Scott), who was our go to guy to help us through. He was pretty quick, and they gave us a deal in that they discounted/pro-rated our session because he had to take a bit longer putting it to tape. The room wasn't immaculately equipped (my dp, the dork he is, said that we could have had some sort of software gagdetry something or other that was just wicked cool), but it had just about everything else you could ask for, and Scott was quick and could do more than we asked for. This happened twice, once with principal footage, second with reshoots. Both very good. Photomag/Post Works just has a very professional attitude about their work, and it shows and I would definitely recommend it.

I brought my 6-string electric guitar to this store in order to replace a nut and fix an underlying…read moreissue with the corresponding nut slot. I supplied a top-grade new TusQ nut for this operation. The instrument remained held at the store for more than a week presumably "being repaired". Eventually, after calling the store, I was told to pick up the guitar in the early evening. I made it to the store by 7PM or so, but my guitar was STILL NOT READY. The staff kept me at the store for over TWO HOURS longer, but they finally brought out the instrument with the new nut and a fresh set of strings. Could've been worse, right? Well, it was worse after all. A little while later, the new nut slid over along its slot. It turned out that the underlying issue (damaged slot bottom under the nut) was never ever repaired! Basically, they charge me a full repair fee for a tiny drop of glue and a set of strings. So, I had to purchase some repair materials and then I spent at least two days fixing those presumably previously fixed issues. A glue curing process took some time as well. So, adding certain staff members' condescending attitude towards returning customers, plus such poor treatment of a repair work request made me unwilling to do any more business with that establishment.

If you're a homeowner or DIY person…read more... AVOID THEM!!! They DON'T maintain their eqpt well, aren't knowledgeable about the requirements of the eqpt and eventually I was told in a round about way they "prefer" to rent only to commercial people. I was charged a full day despite the eqpt running on 20 Amp (which they never told me) If I had known that, I would NEVER have rented from them!! So I went few days in advance to discuss in person about the equipment I was interested in renting. The salesperson seemed helpful & sincere. I arrived at the store 630 am as they were setting up for the day and paid my $500 deposit for a $65/day rental. Got home and eventually set up the machine which blew a circuit breaker, then after 3 other attempts on other outlets, it never worked. After speaking by phone they sent a replacement but truth was obviously the eqpt. 2nd time came back and picked it up for return. Was assured I would get full refund. went to store, after a lot of pleasantries and being told they weren't charging me for pickups and deliveries (WHEN DID I AGREE TO PAYBFOR THOSE?!?!?), they informed me I still had to pay even tho their eqpt DOESNT WORK!!!! NOT WORTH THE HEADACHES, this is why Home Depot will eventually run everyone else out!!
