Moon Dog Brewery has fast become one of my favourite places in all of Melbourne. Here are three obvious reasons: 1. INCREDIBLE craft beer. There is truly something for everyone at Moon Dog - sweet, sour, dark or light. I recently tried the Lei Lady Lei, a Hawaiian IPA with hibiscus, as well as a glass of the Puns and Roses, an English Rose IPA - both lip-smackingly delicious. 2. An awesome venue. It's down a laneway (in true Melbourne style) and is built essentially in a warehouse, however still remains a warm and inviting space. There is plenty of seating with a mix of long tables for groups and small barrels for pairs. There is also a bookshelf that doubles as a door. HELLO. 3. Pizza! Moon Dog experimented with a few different food trucks parked out the front however have really hit their stride with the pizza. They come in all your favourite flavours only with much sillier names. I recommend the David Hassle Hock or the Return of the Mack. You will likely find me here most Saturday afternoons. Come say hi!

Moon dog brewery is a sly old dog. Secretly tucked away in a side street away from the roast ducks and neon lights of Victoria street this is a great spot for beers and pizza. Walk into a huge garage filled with big long tables and comfy couches which are great for groups. The beers on tap are delicious and have a range of slightly weird yet yummy flavours- pine lime splice IPA?! They have a food truck out the front that does amazing wood fire pizzas with punny names- David Hassle hock is a winner. This place is good for big groups as there lots of room for standing up or sitting down and they even have a secret room behind a bookcase!

Driving up, it felt quite dodgy as this place is tucked away down a small one way street full of warehouses. A classic place for a brewery! First we saw the pizza food truck outside the entrance - not at all how I'd pictured it but makes for a more interesting experience! They had all kinds of unique named pizza options. Considering the special with Mac & cheese then saw it also had Cheetos so opted out as that just didn't seem right! So we went for a simple margarita with the extra toppings. 1 pizza is not quite big enough for 2 to share and 2 would have been too many. So you decide whether you'd like to overindulge or walk out possibly wanting a little more. However a good beer should help curb the hunger! Next up, we walk into the warehouse that gives off a grudge, eclectic yet cosy feel. Sounds weird but that's exactly what it was. They've put together any random old furniture or decor items and the couches looked extremely worn. Approaching the bar, we waited for someone to help us on the beer selections. The server hollered from a distance to ask if we'd been served and we said no. He finished what he was doing and was ready to assist! I asked if they had a paddle and was a bit disappointed to hear they didn't but he was happy to offer a tasting of any of the options. I first tried the IPA and, as he poured, explained it was a fresh batch and how they were really happy with it. I love the fact that they tell you a little background on the beer. That doesn't happen at a normal bar. I could see why they were happy with it - it wasn't too hoppy yet quite flavorful & smooth, almost closer to a pale ale! My partner ordered the black IPA which also had a really nice taste. Two very solid local craft brews! We chose to sit at the small table with the antique looking lampshade. The pizza was brought to us on a wooden paddle with a few napkins. Sorry, no plates! The pizza, well, it did the job. The toppings fell off easily yet the crust was pretty tasty. As we finished our beers, the bar jokes on the back of the coasters kept us fully entertained. Will definitely be back to try more beers!

So comfy and laid-back, Moon Dog feels like visiting an old friend, even if it's the first time you've been there. Love the understated feel to the set-up - bang a few couches in, slap a few posters on the walls, and just like that you're ready to open to the public. The beer is delicious, although I've yet to work my way up to the really big guys on offer. You're drinking craft beer from a small brewery, so expect that the beers will be priced accordingly. Every-time we've been there's been families and young kids there, which shows people are there to sample some serious beers but not get sloshed. With that amount of kids there you'd think there would be something more suitable than Coke/Fanta on offer for the little ones, but it's a minor quibble as parents should probably plan ahead. We keep missing it, but on Saturdays they do a tour around 2pm I think, so if you get there at the right time you can add a side of knowledge to your brew. The bar staff are all nice and as laid-back as you would expect from the surroundings. Sometimes you get free popcorn, sometimes you don't. Great when it arrives but maybe don't expect it. As for food, the hipster experience is complete with different food vans setting up out front on different days. First time we were here it was amazing gourmet sausages. On Saturday it was a disappointing pie van - mostly disappointing as they only had about three pies left by 2.30pm. Again, don't expect to find a great snack here but leave yourself open to get a nice surprise if you do. There's some back-street parking on offer, but one of their neighbours is a panel beater and most of the street is lined up with their inventory so you might not be in luck. Best bet is to tram nearby. With the beers being as strong as they are, that's a responsible decision as well as a practical one! Great little place to show off to friends who have yet to hear of it.

I dig the Moon Dog brewery. It certainly helps that there are always different, crazy taste experiments on tap. I've sampled everything from bloody mary to champaign style beers and that's just the tip of the iceberg. (Rumour has it there was a brew made with roast chicken.) While the roast chicken beer might not cater to vegetarians, the pizza van parked out front has some delicious options. I'm a little in love with their dough - which is homemade using yeast from the brewery! The venue has a laid-back vibe. There is mismatched furniture, student lounge style, and quirky decorations which add to the charm. Plus there is a view of the magic-making brewing equipment behind the bar. I haven't managed to attend one personally, but I also hear that they do tours on Saturdays. The beers costs more than Carlton Draught (the Carlton brewery is literally next door) and it's worth it. I definitely recommend a visit.

The tacos come out freshly put together and smell great. The bar pumps out the best tasting margaritas. So on point. I tried the smokey watermelon one, it was not a drink you can chug down and every sip was very enjoyable. The bar man suggested I go with something else I wanted to order, and I did just that. The next margarita he shook together was heavenly. Smooth, tequila, bodied, salty and all I could ask for. When he was done pouring out his creations, he got into his own groove and played some huge beats right in the bar. It was perfect and fun. Tequila only made my time here better. Next time, I'll add in some of those delicious tacos I saw walking by me.

Latino music, dim lighting, great smells from the open kitchen! Vibe is all there. My only gripe was the long haired/mullet guy who served us. It wasn't terribly busy, but he didn't bring us menus or water for 5 minutes, as he chatted with the other staff. He just seemed pretty distracted and scattered the whole time, and was just pretty annoying to deal with in general. It's all good to be laid back, that's the vibe of the place. But he just seemed incompetent and a bit "too cool". Also asked us directly for a tip with our card already in the machine. It was super awkward so we just said yes to be done with it but left feeling weird... I don't mind tipping, but it wouldn't have been for that guy!

They have varieties of seatings such a high stool bar chair, semi outdoor, regular chair and sofas. The restaurant is big enough for a functions or a night out with a large group of people. They separate the menu into two main prizes; Yummy ($8.5) and Fancy ($12.5), there are no different in size but the differences is in the complexity of the dish. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, I think the portions was a little bit small on some of the dishes but Palinka is a nice place to hang out and chill for an after work drinks especially if you love Palinka beverages and European beers.
