I love buying gifts here. The selection is wonderful, and my favorite pieces are actually made by the owner.

I have a very heavy silver men's bracelet with links. I needed the clasp repaired. I brought the…read morebracelet to a jeweler in Fairfield and was told it would cost $325 for the repair because it was Italian silver, and that very few people work with silver jewelry, and it would take several weeks. I was shocked being I paid that price when I purchased it 20 years prior. He said, very few people work with silver jewelry, and it would take several weeks. I certainly was not going to have him repair it. I've had gold items repaired for much less. I was in Stratford and saw MJs, I figured I would get a price on the repair. They were very friendly and accommodating. I expected that I would have been given an estimate that was equivalent to the prior jeweler (I assumed he was being HONEST with me). They took one look at the bracelet and said it would cost $35 and they would only need two days. The repair was pretty extensive; the clasp and the link were worn and needed to be seemed and rebuilt structurally. That price brought a huge smile to my face. I was so happy there are some honest people still out there, that was so reassuring, (Obviously. I was pretty upset with the prior Jewler, he simply was stealing my money). The repair was amazing and showed a high level of skill and craftsmanship. It literally looked brand new. Obviously, don't waste your time and money with any other jewelers. If you're looking for an honest and friendly jeweler, a laid-back family atmosphere, fast repair, and great customer service. Look no further. Bill S.

We had both done some research online and had some ideas of styles we liked and prices to expect. Rebecca and her father were so helpful. They volunteered information that helped us save money (we didn't even have to ask!), such as ring sizes that are cutoffs for different price brackets. They were great about helping us come up with solutions for the unique shape of my engagement ring. We never felt any pressure to buy and we were never given any "sales pitch" tactics. Overall, a great experience, a very reasonable price, and we can't wait to see our rings. I'll report again when the rings come in.

If I could give zero stars to this jeweler I would. I dealt directly with both Louis and Joe and I…read morewas absolutely appalled at the service I received. My husband and I purchased a wedding ring and engagement ring from Heberts in the summer of 2009. Several weeks after getting engaged, I noticed my ring was not right: the stones were not set evenly, it was incredibly scratchy under the band because the flange metal from where they drilled into the platinum was not cleaned out, and the bezel holding the center stone was irregular. I brought the ring back to Heberts and they agreed that it was terribly made. They never apologized for selling me the damaged ring in the first place, and were very combative when I asked, What Happened Here? Why did you sell me something that was wrong? Sending it back to the manufacturer took about 1 month (not fun to be without your ring for a month as a newlywed :( )and when I finally received the "replacement" ring in Jan-Feb of 2010, it was of the same poor quality. The stones are not set evenly, the platinum was not cast correctly so it is not smooth, and the flange metal underneath is still there and incredibly scratchy. Again, Joe Hebert sold me this damaged ring knowing full well how wrong it was. I started having problems immediately - my finger turned bright red, became swollen and looked like it had been burned. This was because of the very sharp and scratchy underside of the rings (both the wedding band and the engagement ring). At the time, I didn't know why this was happening, and I had the ring professionally cleaned (I don't live in Milford, so I could not have it cleaned at Heberts), but that did not help since the problems were with the ring itself. Finally, I went to a jeweler here in DC (I Gorman Jewelry on 20th St NW) and they had a ring manufacturer look at the rings. He told me about the flange metal and the poor settings (which I already knew because it is visible with the eye) and the poor casting of the platinum. He suggested I return the rings to Heberts because they were so defective. So, I went to Heberts to explain the situation - not even 10 months into owning these rings - and I have never been treated so badly. First, Joe refused to even look at the rings, stating he was not responsible for how my finger reacts to jewelery. He said I am absolutely not going to take these rings back, no matter what is wrong with them. Finally, after about 20 minutes of pleading, he agreed to look at the rings and after a cursory glance, declared that there was "nothing wrong with them that he could see" - like I was making it up or crazy, while there is a SCAR on my ring finger clearly visible. He made no apologies for selling me such a poor quality defective piece of jewelry and claimed no fault. THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS! I will be looking into pursuing this matter in small claims court because Heberts should not get away with swindling their customers.
