DATE & TIME OF VISIT: July 31, 2026 @ 9:00pm. We have been to House of Flavors In Ludington many times and this is an extension of them. Cute decor and they have a few picnic tables to sit on outside. It's located right by a pond that has a deck you can go on. SERVICE: The two female workers that were there was fine, they were not rude but also not super friendly. FOOD: This is what we ordered.... Large MI Pothole Malt -- Taste: very good. Size: larger than others. Price: $7.99 (and they don't charge extra for the malt powder like other places!) Single scoop MI Pothole in a cup -- Taste: good, I have had other MI pothole flavor at other places that I do like better but this version is tasty. Size: average. Price: $5.50 OVERALL THOUGHTS: Paid little over $31 for our family of four. Service was fine nothing to write home about. It's not a big place so it may be a wait if they are busy. Atmosphere is cute and the outside area is very nice (beware of the geese poop and flying bugs!). WOULD I RETURN? Yes if we are in the area.

Already cannot wait for the next trip to MI so we can go back. The service was wonderful. Smiling…read morefaces the minute we walked in. The servings of ice-cream in this state are AMAZING. A single scoop is truly a single scoop. The outdoor seating was darling and peaceful. There's a pond that you can look at and appears they offer live music in a grassy space. Highly recommend their birthday cake ice-cream.

Every city needs a Captain Sundae. Been going here since I was a little tyke and every experience…read morehas been memorable! Packed with nostalgia, this parlor never fails to bring their A-stuff day in and day out. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and you DEFINITELY can't beat the value. Great portions for great prices. Parents, do your kids a favor and come here after a day at the beach. You won't regret it!

After dinner, we stopped by Captain Sundae based on several local recommendations. I was craving…read moreice cream, and this place really hit the spot. They have a lot of unique sundae options, which made it surprisingly difficult to choose. I ended up getting the Peanut Butter Shipwreck with vanilla ice cream, and it was delicious. The ice cream-to-topping ratio was perfect, and the combination of hot fudge and cold ice cream brought everything together really well. It was also very reasonably priced for the portion size. My only critique is that I expected it to be made with hard ice cream rather than soft serve. That said, the soft serve was still very good. It does melt pretty quickly, though, so don't wait too long before digging in. There's plenty of outdoor seating, and they even have a mini golf course in the back. The whole place has a fun, laid-back atmosphere and is a great spot to hang out with family and friends. Their soft serve cones also looked incredibly good and picture-worthy, so I'll definitely be trying one of those the next time I visit.

Birthday Cake Ice Cream: Hudsonville originated in 1926 in, you guessed it, Hudsonville, MI. Today…read morethey're based in Holland, MI but the name remains the same. My favorite ice cream brands have been long established, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try another take on birthday cake ice cream as it's one of my favorites. I don't see limited edition anywhere on the packaging, but I believe this is a new flavor to celebrate the company's 100th anniversary. Their celebratory frozen dessert utilizes a white cake batter flavored ice cream base with pound cake pieces, rainbow sprinkles, and an abundant blue frosting swirl. The cake flavor of the ice cream was spot on, but what takes things up a notch is the blue frosting. It's super sweet, bountiful, pretty thick in some areas, and it's easy on the eyes. While the vibrant frosting swirl provides most of the color, the rainbow sprinkles supply a pleasant crunch that contrasts nicely with the smooth ice cream. Besides the cake flavor, frosting swirls, and rainbow sprinkles, every top tier birthday cake ice cream needs one more ingredient, actual cake pieces. Initially I was concerned the pieces were not numerous enough, but the more of the container I ate, the more the pieces balanced out. Additionally, the pieces are fair sized hunks and not tiny bits. The chunks have a nice texture and pleasant cake flavor. Admittedly, this is only the third flavor I've tried from Hudsonville, but it takes the cake. Here's hoping it sticks around for many more birthdays to come. Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews
