Came here with a friend. It was a nice day and we definitely wanted to sit outside, but unfortunately it's in quite a cramped location and there simply wasn't enough outdoor seating. Fortunately, the interior is still quite nice and clean. The service was prompt and friendly throughout our stay despite it being pretty busy.
Unfortunately, the food lets this place down. The lunch menu is quite limited, and the menu is a bit disorganised and unclear. The food wasn't poor, but it didn't stand out in any way, it was just competent. I didn't really see (or later taste) anything that distinguished the dishes from something you could have gotten at any other cafe on the Shore. The Montrose Breakfast was pretty standard. The mushrooms were done well, but the eggs had an overcooked, rubbery texture and saltiness was an issue. The risotto was presented well, but slightly too dry for my taste, and lacking a bit in flavour. It would also have been nice for salt and pepper to be placed at the tables. The main problem, though, was that the portion sizes were too small. We both ended up having to have what could probably be best described as a second lunch elsewhere because we were still hungry afterward. Given the price range we both expected something better and/or something more.
Pros: Good location, lots of parking, friendly staff, nice interior, beach close by.
Cons: Food was average at best and portions were quite small, menu, especially at lunch, is quite limited, and not nearly enough outdoor seating. read more
