This preschool not only teaches educational skills but life skills. Small class size and structure are just two of the positives. If you are searching for a preschool, go and look. you will not be disappointed!

The owner of this preschool goes through employees like water. She cannot retain them due to how she treats them. She chastises them for any and every little thing right in front of parents, which I found extremely unprofessional. In the 7 months that our son was in her care, I cannot even count the number of employees she had. Because of this high turnover, the kids do not know what to expect day to day and the staff does not have the proper training to deal with kids, especially behavior issues. When my husband went to pick my son up from Young Scholars Preschool the day we decided to pull him out, the staff did not know who he was, even though he had been there 3 weeks prior. The staff tried to call the owner of the preschool because she was not on-site, and she did not answer her phone. Due to the high turnover and lack of training, they did not know to look in my child's file to see photos of the parents so they could verify identity. When my husband did end up speaking with the owner of the preschool about our concerns, her response was "that is too bad". It was very disappointing that she did not care we had concerns and issues about the behavior our son was exhibiting the last few months he was in her care ranging from very angry, crying and not wanting to be dropped off, and coming home multiple days in a row with wet pants. The preschool owner spends more time making sure a sheet is filled out each day detailing every single book they read, what is eaten (all breakfast and lunch is provided by the parents), and bathroom trips, rather than focusing on the child and learning. It is my belief that a preschool should teach more than tracing ABC's each day and repeating a letter before going to the restroom. Each month parents are required to pay an activity fee. It turns out, this activity fee in addition to a bouncy house which is a fun thing, is used to feed the children donuts, pizza, and a large bag of candy that the kids are sent home with. We are not a candy-free household, but we do not feel that a 2 1/2 year old needs to be sent home with a bag of candy each month. We did not appreciate the extra money per month being spent on junk to feed our child when we were told that the kids were going to be fed healthy snacks. In addition to the monthly activity, the daily snacks fed to the kids are full of sugar such as juice barrels. Always be sure to check the DHS website to see how many violations a pre-school or daycare has. In the 7 months our son was at Young Scholars Preschool, Young Scholars Preschool had 8 violations. I find this completely unacceptable especially when they range from taking away food as punishment, not keeping the heat at the minimum temperature required, and more violations you can look at for yourself: http://tennessee.gov/humanservices/article/find-child-care In close, do not send your child to Young Scholars Preschool. She puts on a good front, but as time goes on, you can see through the façade of what is supposed to be taught and fed and the school, but is not. After all was said and done we also had to pay her out for the last 2 weeks due to no notice. She even threatened to send us to collection. If we where not in the middle of buying a new home we would have fought her in court. But that is not feasible for us at this time for us.

This is our 3rd year our child has been attending Brentwood Montessori Academy. My husband was not…read moreconvinced going into our first year...He said one, maybe two years, but that definitely changed!. The first year, she started to write in cursive...The second year she moved into a new classroom and had several work stations, jobs, and an extra bonus of getting to go to violin class (with only paying a violin rental of $20 a month), and several extra curricular activities that we could add on after school (1 hour extra). Her teachers noticed after a few weeks she was behind on reading a little, and let us know promptly so we could get right on to ramping up her reading...She made a huge turn around! We love this environment of learning. We love that kids are able to be kids, but also learn lots of responsibility and independence. They get to go home and be a kid without loads of homework, although, you can request some learning sheets to be sent home. Now, in our choice to choose Montessori once again, for a 3rd year in 2020, we had a couple important requirements with our choice to go back. We already had an excellent experience so far, but the pandemic and how it was going to be handled at Montessori was key to us continuing. After reading their new policy, we saw that great efforts were made in making the children's environment as normal as possible. This was absolutely critical in us sending our daughter back. They had also placed common sense approaches for keeping kids and staff safe. Because the kids have separate work spaces where they do their individual work, they are already socially distanced. They do temperature checks where my child can be checked with her wrist. They also have hand sanitizing stations (my child is able to bring her organic sanitizer-90% ) and they take the time to keep things extra clean. They have a great system of separating rooms, in case of Covid exposure which really limits the amount of shut downs. This has been brilliant! We have seen the damaging effects of other overly strict policies in so many other surrounding schools (including a lot of depression, discouragement, and lack of learning) so we couldn't be more happy in the way they have handled this so far. Because she is able to go back to school, and not have us home school her, the teachers were able to recognize that she had a bit of a learning disability and we were able to immediately jump on that and get a tutor. One of her teachers actually took the time to educate herself better on her type of disability in order to understand and be able to serve her and some other kids with this issue even better. We would have never even known she had some issues. Now we can save her the heartache of losing her self confidence and falling behind. We highly support Jim Bernstorf and his highly compassionate & knowledgeable staff. We thank them so much for the way they teach the children. Thanks to them, our child can go to school in freedom. As Maria Montessori said, "Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and, when the grass of the meadows is damp with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning as it wakes every living creature that divides its day between walking and sleeping."

She called us almost everyday for the first 4 days and on that Friday (one school week in) she asked us to come and pick him up and that was to be his last day. I spoke with her and explained that was not what she said to me and that I would have never brought him there if that were the case. I lost the registration fee-nonrefundable. My child had to go to ANOTHER place to adjust again. It takes a child at least 2 weeks to adjust and she kicked him out after one week. We have had a horrible experience here and would never take another child here, nor will we recommend this establishment. Our son is currently thriving in his new school after a minor adjustment period to new students and teachers. He has been there over a month and a half.
