Some days she was extremely difficult for my wife in the morning and had to go to the program in her pjs. Mind you it was 3 hour sessions, three days a week. We had a teacher Ms. Diane who not only called my wife about this; she seemed annoyed and disgusted on the phone. One day she went ahead and called my wife in her seemingly annoyed tone stating "You need to have your kid evaluated." My wife replied with "she has been.. hence why she gets speech there twice a week". One day I picked up my daughter and overheard the teacher say to another teacher "I have to remind myself that these are not third and fourth graders... That's what I'm used to teaching". That's nice; then go back and teach those grades since you're not willing to be equipped to handle younger kids developing with speech, behavior issues, or possible occupational therapy being with needed. Speaking to some other parents whose kids were in my daughters particular class agreed that this teacher and this place should NEVER be allowed to take in any kids with an IEP of any kind. My daughter hated going there at such a young age. Let's fast forward a year to UPK in Island Trees school district; NIGHT AND DAY difference! My daughter's teachers were so amazing (Ms. Tina and Ms. Gabby to name a few) that we all were upset when the school year ended. Just goes to show you some teachers are amazing and some are not. I'm a civil servant and you either get someone on the phone that will do their job and assist anyone anytime or someone who just shows up to work.

To add to the silver lining, the communication from school to home is excellent, However, if your child has any kind of struggle - emotionally, behaviorally, academically, in reaching milestones - I'd highly recommend looking for another arrangement. At my request, my son was evaluated two months into the year and qualified for speech and occupational therapy. Both of these factors delayed his letter and number learning as well. His teacher had no patience for him whatsoever. I heard nothing but negative feedback from the beginning of the year, and did not see any attempts made to modify his classroom behavior, motivate him, or differentiate to meet his needs. There were no sticker charts offered, no modified, multi-sensory work to help with his delay in learning letters, no small, attainable goals set for him - there were just a series of complaints. It was only thanks to his wonderful service providers from outside the school that my son finally started to make progress toward the end of the year. Still, it didn't feel like enough, and, as my son started kindergarten, I was convinced he would have the same issues. Not so. Within a week, his teacher knew exactly what he needed, got him on a behavior chart, and I'm amazed that he's currently able to do so many of the things his preschool teacher insisted he just couldn't do - all he needed was the right teacher. It was a different world - one where my son actually felt motivated and capable, which he hadn't felt at Tendergarden at all. It's sad to me that an early childhood setting would do so little to help a child who just needed a little extra support, encouragement and love, but, sadly, that was my experience there. It is my hope that this may be limited to this one teacher, and perhaps the added stressors of teaching PreK during a pandemic, but, if you are concerned about your child, perhaps research other places where he or she may get more support. Preschool is supposed to be an enjoyable start to school, so I really hope no other children have the disappointing year that my child did.

Our daughter has learned so much and it is overwhelmingly noticable how much of a positive impact tutor time has had on her. She is smart and super social. We have met so many amazing parents as well and she has so many friends! The leadership at tutor time is filled with excellent people, they host fun events, have excellent communication with parents and build great relationships with everyone. In response to the negative review below - This is unbelievably inaccurate and is not at all a representation of Tutor Time. This has not been my experience in the 2+ years my daughter has been there and we have had nothing but positive experiences always. My daughter has a huge personality, super sassy and energetic. She is loved by everyone, the second she walks in the door she is getting hugs from everyone, past teachers come to see her in her class room and we even get to see some of the staff outside of TT bc they love her so much. Big personalities and lots of energy grow and prosper there and to say they are unwanted is very much untrue. Cleanliness is important to them, especially with covid and they are constantly taking the necessary precautions to keep the kids safe. I watch the cameras and they have very specific cleaning routines. My daughter has come home sick only once, for high fever - and she got it from her cousin not from the school. When they called me I was 45 minutes away and it was no problem at all, they were super sweet and took care of her until I could get there. The academic program is great - my daughter comes home every day learning new things. She soaks it up like a sponge and I love how many things they do every single day. There is always reading, writing, math, science - it blew my mind when she started how much she was actually learning. I thought they would spend most of their time playing but they fit in so much! For example just today they did days of the week, months of the year, weather, a fire drill sequence, a science experiment, learned about the ecosystem and counting. To say there is little to no academic instruction is insane and bizarre to me. Lastly, Allison and Danielle are amazing. They are incredibly sweet and love on my kid so much - and we don't have to "suck up" to get that kind of attention. They answer all my emails right away and are always so kind and helpful. They plan the most fun things for the kids and are always trying to do the best for them. I often get to the school early bc my job is so far away and if our daughters teacher isn't on site yet Danielle lets her hangout in her office with her, which is her favorite thing to do in the mornings! Allison sends me cute pics of our girl during the day when she can. They are just the best duo and we are so lucky our kid is in their hands. They were very rude and nasty to him and couldn't wait to throw him out. They treated him like absolute dirt. One other thing that I didn't put in my first review is that I called my school district about what to do about my son and his situation at Tutor Time. When one of the directors who has a PhD in education found out that my son was attending Tutor Time of Massapequa, she said "I've had this conversation with them before. Their methods are terrible. We never intended to stay past Kindergarten, but the quality of instruction, and Montessori methods were a perfect fit for our son. Enrolling him was one of the best things we could have done for him. He is neurodivergent, and the teachers and school staff have worked closely and thoughtfully with us to ensure that his needs are met and that he continues to grow and learn. He has spectacular social skills, and is particularly sensitive to, and encouraging of, students who are younger than him. We are confident that when the time comes for him to make a transition, he will have a solid foundation, both in terms of academics, and socially. They foster leadership skills, public speaking skills, empathy, creativity, inclusion, and an appreciation of the outdoors.
