He was sooo excited, shouting "fire truck!" over and over. The truck stopped right in front of us, and he got to see it up close--it was his first time ever seeing one in real life! The firemen hopped off, greeted him warmly, and gave him a little fire hat and a sticker. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made his whole day (and mine too, honestly). This was the most heartwarming first encounter he could've had with real-life heroes. Thank you, Milpitas Fire Department, for creating such a special moment for my little guy!

After I was able to get my life up and settled, I started visiting the fire stations in San Jose (mainly the 2 stations that came to my rescue 17 years ago) to give them my baked goods. Ever since then, Gavin has gotten excited every time he sees a fire truck, a fire station, and/or firefighters. It was a Sunday and I was just out and about in Capitola. I went for a run and stopped at the beach for Gavin to play for a bit. I can tell that he was ready for a nap so it was time to get back home. I took a detour when I saw the fire station before me. I woke Gavin up to tell him that there is a fire truck right there. He woke up instantly and ran towards the station. Friendly guys. Very welcoming. They had their door up so everyone can see the fire truck. Gavin sat in it and could not stop smiling. He did not want to leave. I did promise him that we will pay a visit again this Saturday to bring by my famous chocolate chip cookies. During the holidays, they setup donation drop-offs at their station for the Salvation Army. Remember that giving back isn't just during the holidays. Go out there and visit the local men and women ready to protect and serve the community.

The house fire I was in happened nearly 15 years ago and I'm not sure if this station responded that night or the one off of Via Cinco de Mayo (station #23). Anyhow.. my Daughter and I baked and dropped off the goodies last summer for station #23 and so I want to make this a monthly thing and I want to incorporate surrounding stations. Yesterday morning we baked a million sugary sweets and dropped it off to station #23 and here after our luncheon in Campbell. I enjoy doing things for others especially since these guys are the ones responsible for me being alive today. I am forever grateful and want to teach the kids that it is a good quality to obtain.. to be generous to others. We'll be back next month! I'll do something savory this time.

Our neighbor, who mainly speaks Spanish, had a hard time explaining the situation until the ambulance arrived and a responder who spoke Spanish was able to help. It would be great if each shift had at least one Spanish-speaking team member to make sure everyone in the community can communicate clearly and get help without delays.

My son got into the first aid kit and I wasnt sure if he ingested pills because there were empty…read morewrappers everywhere so I called 911. They sent out the fire department and they were there within 5 minutes. They helped me by counting all the pills and making sure that the right amount were there and ruled out that my son most likely didnt ingest them. They were very friendly and easy to talk to despite I was a little freaked out that all of this was actually happening. Thanks for responding so quickly and doing such a great job.
