** Store has contacted me and has offered to redo our dining experience. We declined. I will not subject myself to that environment again - it was that unsettling.
My family took me out for lunch for my birthday. The server was very nice and thorough - the manager was deplorable and inappropriate. I never told the server it was my birthday because the Manager was sure to ruin our experience upon our order being taken. She should stay in the BOH.
We ordered beef nachos as an appetizer. While Olivia was taking our order the manager came over and tossed the nachos on the table, in front of my 1 year old, and rudely interjected Olivia taking our order by shouting 'hot' and running away. If she could have thrown it from the host stand, she would have. At this time my husband said, whoa not in front of the baby - she turned (she was by the large table at this point going towards the entrance) and said 'Well that's why I'm telling you so you can take care of it". My husband said, "well, I can see you have enough time to yap back". I asked Olivia, "is that your manager?" - The look on her face was telling as she nodded yes. I asked what her name was and Olivia had to search her brain for her name - Emily.
It was very clear by Olivia's reaction that Emily has not earned the respect of the staff, nor does she create a welcoming environment for either guests or the staff.
Her actions were extremely rude. She tossed our food at us like she was feeding sheep in a trough. Not only did she not take a second to politely interrupt the order process and give us our food respectively, but she put my infant in jeopardy by placing hot food in front of him. He could have grabbed the wax paper from the tray and pulled the hot nachos onto his lap - we had nothing in front of him for a reason. Instead of yapping back when we expressed our dismay, she should have been accountable for her actions (or lack of) and apologized for her abrupt and abrasive demeaner.
Well, low and behold Emily brings out our food. We held it together despite her ineptness. She came over and said our orders backwards, causing more confusion. She said, "I have a brisket with fries and a firecracker burger with a loaded bake potato." We were trying to figure out what was going on when she began stumbling over her words and back tracking. I told her that we'll figure it out and that we'd appreciate if she just left. She asked if we wanted fresh ground pepper and my husband said "please just leave and let us enjoy our meal", then she proceeded to stick around asking about plates - again I repeated that all we wanted was for her to leave. She walked off in the same direction as initial incident and turned once she was away from our table and was like "I was just trying to assure you.." I then shooed her away and said 'go away', but this time more sternly. She then, from near the large table, turned and yelled back "You know I'm not just an employee, but a human". I snapped back "yeah, I'm a human too". - please note that all her interactions were made loud enough to disrupt other tables and cause a scene.
We had requested her to leave us in peace, thrice! She threw food at us, caused a ruckus then took a victim approach rather than a respectable approach. Life is too short to be pulled into Emily's drama and victim mentality - no one, including the staff, have time for that.
From my extensive experience in the industry a manager needs to have good interpersonal skills, be adaptable, respectful, and professional. Emily was NONE of these. She should not be running chits. nor dealing with costumers or staff. Her purview should be excluded to the BOH. Back in my day we needed to be dressed professionally and respectfully. Emily looked like she rolled out of bed and threw on dress pants - sloppy. The bartender wearing jeans and the black Montana's tee looked more professional than she did.
So, to sum it all up Emily ruined my birthday lunch and created a toxic environment for the customers and staff. Emily escalated the situation, and she is a liability to your restaurant - sometimes severance pay is worth it in this situation. I'm sure she's a nice and capable person in other situations - but that doesn't always translate over to a managerial position. read more
