How much does a smog check cost?

That's a great question as Montana doesn't have strict emission requirements we could calibrate and check it per your state requirement for about 1.5 hours of shop time. ($118 per hour) You can call us at 406-291-9612 for more info. Thanks for your… Read more

Great group of guys here!…read more The team here really helped me out and did an excellent job on my 2007 Highlander-fitting me in on short notice and doing an entire front and back brake job with calipers and the whole works. I was 5 days out from leaving liberal Livingston, Montana on a quest to find a town where authenticity and God's presence is present, and my breaks started to squeak, so I went to all service tire in Livingston to get everything checked out and balance and rotation for the road trip and they said I needed breaks all around, and I decided if I was going to be stuck somewhere there's no better place than Sandpoint/Ponderay as I passed through twice before and remember how humble and nice everyone was there. I called around not thinking anyone would have any availability, calling Six Star auto first, and the gentleman had a few recommendations, before circling back to Compass Auto Repair - he said, "definitely try Compass first," so I called Compass thinking it was a long shot, and explained the big job in store on short notice, and the gent answering said they happened to just have a cancellation and that he could possibly do it IF I could make it there by 7 a.m. in two days and if they had the parts - super appreciative that there was even a window of possibility, I said I will 100% be there Thursday at 7 a.m. with the caveat I totally understand if they couldn't do it one short notice (I just had a feeling they would make it work). I also called right before they closed and could tell he had put in a long day of service to keep people and their families safe on the road, but he graciously was patient with my complete lack of knowledge on the extent of what the problem might be, and put me in the schedule for 7 a.m. Thursday. I showed up at the appointed time and asked how long it might take just out of curiosity and they said probably would be done by early afternoon, if not sooner. Within 30 minutes I got a comprehensive quote via text explaining thoroughly everything that needed to be done, and it matched exactly what "all service tire" in Livingston said (great folks there too btw). The text was really cool, because it was so quick (these guys don't mess around,) and I approved it immediately - so grateful they were able to fit me in and do the comprehensive diagnosis so quickly. I even called to check to make sure and they were gracious explaining everything. I assumed I'd be wandering around in the hot Sandpoint heat for the next 6-8 hours, but within 4 hours or so I got a text saying it was ready to go (what!?) I imagined what a well oiled operation it was, and had the image of one expert doing one thing, while another was working on another part. The price was exactly as quoted, and even a 3% discount for paying cash! God Bless these men for their dedication, hard work, service, and very fair price for fitting me even on short notice and keeping everyone else safe on the road too. When I went to pay I saw they were booked for weeks, so I was feeling so blessed for them getting in and also the peace of mind that I could travel through the rugged, often steep, pothole covered National Forest roads (I'm too cheap to pay for camping and I like the solitude anyway) without any worry. Quite a few times going down some steep, winding roads I gave thanks and blessings for what they did on short notice and what a good job they did. You will probably want to book more ahead of time then I did. One last thing I almost forgot is they sent me a text a week into my trip making sure the job was satisfactory - who goes the extra mile like that nowadays? These guys do!

We brought our RV to Compass Mechanical Repair in Ponderay with clear instructions about what…read moreneeded repair: an identified exhaust leak, leaking airbag fittings, a front suspension noise, and a general inspection. We explained that the exhaust leak location was already known and easily accessible, and that the airbags simply needed new fittings. These instructions were written clearly on the invoice they provided Instead of performing the repairs, the shop initially billed us over $1,200 just for diagnostics on the issues we had already described. This included $340 to diagnose the exhaust leak, $340 for the airbag fittings, and another $340 to look into the suspension noise (without finding the cause) and $170 for one hour of labor we asked for to check the van for any other issues. They also charged $160 in shop supplies, which we were told is billed as a flat percentage, not itemized. When we asked about the charges, we were told the shop always performs its own diagnostics as policy. They also said "it is industry standard". In our 11 years of full-time RV travel, we've never encountered that approach or been billed in this way. After discussion, they reduced the total to $750, but no repairs were completed. Their brake quote was also about $500 higher than Les Schwab's. Overall, we were very disappointed in the billing process and communication. Based on our experience, we will definitely not return

Rental customers please be aware of the condition of equipment you need to rent from this business…read more I had rented from them previously and everything went fine because nothing broke down on me . The second time I rented a skid steer to move some dirt around on my property. When I rented this equipment the guy made a comment about how worn out the tracks were and they probably should had been changed by now due to the rips and holes (see photo) . I thought nothing of the comment because I felt I was dealing with a stand up Buisness at that time and frankly I was being dumb and trusting. We'll of coarse the track came off of this machine on my watch . While helping put the track back on I noticed many old tears in the tracks. After the mechanic and I put the track back on it needed to be tightened to hold it in place , as the mechanic did this using a power grease gun it forced a large rip due to being properly pressurized.this was loaded and promptly returned to the yard . This is where I was informed the charged would be on me since I broke the track, the truth is the track was weak to start and I believe the pressure was lowered to keep the old track turning without ripping in half at full pressure . This probably was overdue for new tracks years ago . What happens with this Buisness owner is this .... If you aren't very very knowledgeable about the equipment you rent and refuse to rent it based on lack of maintenance you as the customer will be charged for new set of tracks which I believe are upwards of 6k .plus labor to install them in their full service shop . Bottom line is there is no possible way this business can place blame on anyone for lack of maintenance on their equipment. We as customers have to be able to put some trust in these businesses in our own community . This looks really bad on newtec and I'm disappointed to say the least . Clearly the owner who was very very nasty to deal with isn't wanting to keep his assets in solid order using his checkbook rather he prefers customers to use theirs to pay for maintenance needs . I think I may have uncovered the little game being played on folks which explains the hostility received from the owner while trying to discuss the situation. I can only hope this helps someone out and not make my mistakes.
