The food was amazing, the service great and the restaurant clean and attractive. On a short trip to Thunder Bay, we weren't sure what we wanted. Yelp suggested Monsoon and our hotel was close by so we decided to try it. Yum! We walked in and a display case of yummy looking confectionery greeted us. We were seated right away. Get the buffet!! Lots of yummy chicken and veggie options. Naan bread (or roti) comes with it. It was hard to stop eating. My husband also ordered lamb vindaloo off the menu and the lamb was so tender and the sauce was very flavorful. Honestly the only thing that was not my favorite was the samosa. We went in ready to order off the menu, but ended up enjoying the buffet. Lots of choices, both for chicken (4 kinds) and for vegetarian. It was a good price at $20.99 pp all you can eat. I'm a fan of Indian food and they always have vegan options for my wife. So, on the road, Indian is usually a safe bet. I didn't go into the store so I can't comment on access but my wife said the place was doing a brisk business at their buffet. I was not very hungry so I ordered two appetizers; one chicken tikka and one pakora. If those were appetizers, I'd be astounded with the regular portions. My chicken dish was enough for two large entrees. The pakoras were generous too but I couldn't eat them because of the intense spice The chicken was tasty and cooked perfectly. I'd prefer it dryer but I'm probably in the minority. My wife got mixed vegetables and rice which lasted her two meals. It's a cheap date. Was in thunderbay for a A few days and man's needed that flavor so had the feel for Indian and this place is walking distance from a lot of the hotels nearby. Lady and chefs in there were blessed, they even cut me a deal at the end of the night. I saw the buffet and it was kind of small so skipped out on that. They told me the breads were freshly homemade.. I don't know if I believe that, tasted store bought but everything else was superb. Had a excellent family meal last night at Monsoon. Was expecting to have such quality East Indian food during my visit home. The environment and presentation was easily on par with similar places in Toronto. Was also impressed with the quantity of food, sometimes little things like Naan are skipped out on, but we received so much to soak up all the amazing curry sauces. VERY small portions in our takeout order. We called back to ask if they had given us the wrong order. Our 6 adult supper club ordered the dinner for 6 and we were all shocked at the tiny amount of food. It was half the amount you would get from a Chinese restaurant at 3x the price. Terrible customer service. Ordered food yesterday, the clerk at the phone was terrible and very impolite. I still ordered food and then he said it will take 1 hour to reach to me. What a great find! In an unlikely location behind an A and W (?!) on Arthur Street - a great spot. All made in-house, fresh - including the paneer. Nicely spiced. Delicious. Paratha was excellent. Took 2hrs to show, rice was mushy and over-cooked, mutter paneer was watery and didn't have peas, naan was flat and burnt. Way over priced. More than $50 for 2 dishes and 2 beverages. The entrees were a shy comparison to food court Indian. read more

went there with my Indian friend (south Indian) went during lunch because that was our only available time as we sat down to eat we realized they only had a buffet open. I personally tasted about everything all the rices were hard and reduced to nothing in the holding trays. Everything els we ate was quite stale and over cooked, quite disappointing! However, a lady did offer to make is fresh nan as it is only good fresh which was good unfortunately it was the only good part of the experience. Over all a completely bad experience, as if the food was bad enough they were also receiving shipments at the time we were dinning and the entire restaurant was colder then a god dam ice box. I would like to note that I have heard nothing but good things from people who have gone to monsoon. Other then from people who are from India who have told me its average food. read more

I have had their food from catered events a few times and it has always been great. I would assume the restaurant would be just as good!
