Monsoon sells original and attention-grabbing clothes, laden with designs influenced by North Africa, Nepal and India. Deep purples are adorned with golden sequins and shiny flecks, dark teals with oriental prints and subterranean fuchsias with intricate beaded embroidery. The clothes are both innovative and sophisticated...a rare combination that results in beautiful, almost picturesque garments.
Much to my delight Monsoon on Grafton Street stocks a sizeable selection of their 'Fusion' range, that which blends trend-driven design with Monsoon's signature style. I have bought some cardigans, a folk dress and sequined tunic from this range before, the style of which have been described by friends as 'Laura Ashley on acid.' I recently purchased a Monsoon Fusion Bo Jangles Bead Dress; Part flapper, part Lolita, this pretty frock required only two things, same as most Monsoon attire: the right accessories and a playful personality. These beautifully tailored numbers will fool everyone into thinking they're designer. Spread across two floors this branch offers most of the Monsoon clothes as seen on the web-site where other smaller branch's stockpile would normally be much more limited.
The clothes in Monsoon are very expensive and those in the 'Originals' range, the most classical of all the clothes available in the store are especially costly with an average cocktail dress priced at €160. The clothes do however have a considerable durability and do look beautiful. The intricate needlework and exemplary embroidery ensure the clothes last for years. read more
