I was visiting my boyfriend and decided we would love the experience of hiring a personal chef. I…read moresubmitted a menu request on Bark.com, and Jasmine contacted me via email from Cooking Time. I decided to hire her for dinner services since she was the only chef in the area to respond to my request. The food was less than mediocre/salty, and her prices were well above the average chefs. I did not complain, and I gave her a 20% tip. I decided to give her another try, so I requested a breakfast quote, but she tried to charge an outlandish fee of $700 for two people. I questioned the charges, and she decided to drop the price to $500. I texted her multiple times before the scheduled date, but she never responded. A week before services, I reached out to her, and she finally responded five days before the scheduled appointment. She told me she had a cold, so she could not respond, and she would be unable to provide services for the planned date. I have never known anyone suffering from a cold who could not contact the client well in advance and inform them they could not make the scheduled appointment. I would be leery of hiring her and ensuring she provides an itemized list of all your requests. Experience is a good teacher.

I've taken classes, I have relatives who are talented artists, I've met several artists in my life. Anyway...Flor de Barro offers classes to the community. They start at around $35 and up. They invite the public to have mimosas on Sunday afternoons. They also have other events for anyone whose interested. For example, their Dia de los Muertos altar/art was great. I enjoyed seeing it very much. They even gave out hot cocoa and pan de muerto to visitors. Follow them on social media and/or check out their website for more info. You can also subscribe to their email blasts. The main thing Flor de Barro is known for is their hand crafted pottery from Mata Ortiz. Mata Ortiz is a small village in Chihuahua, Mexico. It's a 4.5 hour drive from El Paso. Some of the art is pricey but beautiful to look at. However, smaller pieces are really affordable. I saw a tiny pot I really love for $6. I'll most likely go back and get it. There are some larger pieces that cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. The staff is always friendly and hospitable. I like that they don't pressure anyone into buying the art. They let you look around and take photos freely. They're all about building genuine relationships with those who visit. Flor de Barro seems to update their inventory often. I saw a beautiful nativity scene that wasn't there a month ago. Those who aren't in El Paso can also shop online via their website. Several, if not all of these pieces, would make fine gifts. I highly recommend visiting Flor de Barro, whether you plan on buying something or not. We're supposed to learn something new everyday. I think you will here.

I had no idea we offered it here in El Paso, but it makes sense because this is probably one of the most artistic cities I've been in, the other comparable being Barcelona. The talent is so apparent here with the murals and aesthetics of the buildings, even on the food trucks etc. I guess they nuture them young! I really liked the program and the teacher. She's super patient and in the 45 mins she was able to get the entire class of 25 kids of various ages between 5-9 to draw from scratch a treehouse with angles and proportions and colors and shading. I was very impressed with how she was able to interact with the kids and give them one on one time and give them little tips. I could see the confidence building in my kids and it teaches them so much hand control and coordination. If they offer it at your school, jump on it. It's a great program and space is limited so there's always a wait-list. We're gonna try to get in after the school break. It's also very affordable with scholarships and sibling discounts and payments plans. They offer the classes after school on different days so you're able to pick them a little later and avoid the lines. See if they're in your school and trial a class. #supportlocal https://www.youngrembrandts.com/borderland-TX
