They helped us choose great frames for the paintings and we put down a small deposit. They turned around and quickly got the job done before my brother's birthday in less than a week! Upon my return to pick up the frames, the owner (Doug I believe? I'm sorry if that's incorrect!) told me that he was sorry for our loss and that the rest of the payment was on the house. I was so taken back at that incredibly kind and sincere gesture, I truly can't thank you all enough for the blessing you provided in that time. The pizza dough is made fresh daily, sauces are scratch-made, and the menu feels like an actual restaurant, not just concessions. Even their beers are award-winning, and it's clear they care about quality and consistency. I ended up hosting my son's birthday here for about 14 people, and honestly, it was one of the easiest group outings I've done. We ordered everything from our seats, the kids shared refillable popcorn, and everyone had great food the entire time while watching the movie. No lines, no waiting, no juggling trays, and no missing parts of the film. They also have a private room we used for cake, plus games like foosball, which made it really easy to manage a group. Pricing was another surprise. Tickets here were actually cheaper than comparable theaters, even though it may not look like it at first because fees are shown upfront. When I compared the full experience--tickets plus food--it ended up being a better overall value than going somewhere else and just buying snacks. They also honored old Alamo gift cards, which was a really nice touch. As for the 18% service charge, after seeing how hard the servers work, it makes sense. They are constantly moving up and down stairs in a dark theater delivering food so you don't have to leave your seat. That level of service is part of the experience. Overall, between the food quality, service, and convenience, this has easily become one of my go-to spots. Also want to recognize Melissa, the GM, and her team. When we entered, we got into this line of concessions that had candies, ice cream cups, chocolate... There was a bar that served adult drinks on the right. The arcade was also on the right. When we got to the front of the line we were able to get various sizes of popcorn. Cinemark sells popcorn in small to large tubs, but we also saw folks walking away with bags full of popcorn. The kids got some Fanta slushies, and then we were off to the theater showing Zootopia 2. The room had stadium seating the leather seats were large and comfy. The floors were not sticky and the room provided great visuals and audio. Not too loud, but enough speakers to sound amazing. The movie was great. The experience at Cinemark was great. The staff are pleasant, and usually we buy our seats online before we arrive which is easy to do and convenient. Regardless, the wait lines are usually quick from entry to seating to the snack bar and to the restrooms. Most important, the seating is not cramped and the screen experience is good. So far, we have been cool inside while watching any movie, however hot it gets outside. Our only complaint is sometimes the movie is too loud, and we've had to leave our seats to ask for more tolerable levels.

My recent visit to the museum was to spend time in the galleries devoted to the Old Masters, a…read morecollection overwhelmingly due to the Kress donation. Kress was a discount store from many decades ago. Mr. Kress had assembled a truly monumental collection. Upon his death, paintings were given to quite a number of art museums around the country. The El Paso Museum of Art is one of them. I'm always blown away whenever I see the paintings donated by Kress in various museums that I've visited. I think that this museum received an especially vigorous selection and so many of the works on display seem so fresh and bright. These aren't lesser works by iconic artists, either. These are amazing and the collection alone make this museum a must-see. My favorite work on display is Vincenzo Catena's 'Portrait of a Woman', an oil on canvas work from about 1520-25; oil on canvas. The young woman staring directly at the viewer looks quite modern-day as if she's posing for a selfie to show off her finery; and, what finery it is: red velvet and fur with a large-jeweled broach. This is where Catena is also showing off: his skill in making the velvet and fur seem so real. This is quite the lush painting. I was also sure to visit a selection of paintings on the first level that presented works by local students. My favorite was Zoey Odette Valles' 'Tumbled Away, an acrylic on canvas piece that seemed ready for the permanent collection. Well done, Zoey! Some museums are hindered by their spaces. This museum falls into that category. This is an overhauled Greyhound bus station that I remember using years ago when I'd travel with a little backpack across the country. The space works as well as they can make it work and the engagement with the local community is truly impressive. However, if this museum's collection were in a truly dedicated space, people would trek here just for the art.

I had no idea we offered it here in El Paso, but it makes sense because this is probably one of the most artistic cities I've been in, the other comparable being Barcelona. The talent is so apparent here with the murals and aesthetics of the buildings, even on the food trucks etc. I guess they nuture them young! I really liked the program and the teacher. She's super patient and in the 45 mins she was able to get the entire class of 25 kids of various ages between 5-9 to draw from scratch a treehouse with angles and proportions and colors and shading. I was very impressed with how she was able to interact with the kids and give them one on one time and give them little tips. I could see the confidence building in my kids and it teaches them so much hand control and coordination. If they offer it at your school, jump on it. It's a great program and space is limited so there's always a wait-list. We're gonna try to get in after the school break. It's also very affordable with scholarships and sibling discounts and payments plans. They offer the classes after school on different days so you're able to pick them a little later and avoid the lines.
