Our experience at Monrovia Music Academy was exceptional! My daughter is only 5 years old and we don't have any music background in our family- so she really started from scratch! Her piano teacher Johanna is very enthusiastic and fun with her- having her learn through play. Within just a couple lessons, she could play simple songs with sheet music. She learned quickly and was always excited to go to lessons. The front desk and admin are very quick and responsive to any scheduling/makeups other issues that may arise. Thanks, MMA! read more

We are new to the area and found this gem for taking music lessons. Two of my children have been taking lessons here since the beginning of the year and were able to participate in the Year End Recital in June. One of them takes piano lessons with Esther and the other takes guitar lessons with Drew. They are both amazing teachers. Esther is so kind, patient and encouraging with my son who can take some time to warm up to a new teacher. My other son really enjoys taking lessons with Drew. He's so talented and he has sparked a joy and love for learning guitar in my son that is so enjoyable to see. The studio staff is always very helpful with any questions I have, and if you are with a Charter School, they are an approved vendor for many schools in the area. Lessons are affordably priced, and if you need to cancel and reschedule, you can get a credit as long as you do so with advance notice. Even if you need to cancel last minute, (which unfortunately happened to us one time when our car broke down on the way to the lesson), they will send a video lesson so that your child can view it on their own. I would highly recommend Monrovia Music Academy! They have lessons for many instruments and offer voice lessons as well and for all ages. If you're still on the fence, you can always request a trial class to check it out for yourself before signing up! read more

This music school has been helpful in getting my kids engaged with finding and playing an instrument they enjoy. It's very important to find an instructor that works well with you and your fam. The first couple of instructors did not blend well with us. One was basically making my daughter feel bad for not having her own ukulele. This was when we first started (maybe 3rd session). We would borrow the academies instruments, which was fine with other staff. We were trying out different instruments to see which we liked before purchasing. Another instructor was on his phone and/or taking bathrooms break during my son's session. This was more recent (summr. 2025). That was unexpected because we've been dealing with nice, professional instructors lately. Besides those incidents the staff has been friendly, professional, and helpful. The front desk; Jordan and Augustina (I think that's the names), have been very helpful with our scheduling needs and always greet us. Our instructors Drew and Becca are the best. So friendly, make learning fun and enjoyable. Big THANK YOU to the front desk, Becca, & Drew. They deserve 5 stars. Side note: Try to park in the street spots or parking lot. There's a little parking lot right next to MMA but once in a while a man will come out from the back building/office and get protective over the parking lot. I think it's a church or something. Other than that is a fine place w/ kind staff. Lots to do nearby-playground, restaurants, library, and more. read more

We wanted to introduce our teenage son to formal vocal lessons as we saw how much he seemed to enjoy singing when in private. He was very reluctant but eventually acquiesced. He did his first trial lesson with Marley and wasn't opposed to signing up to the program (that's a major win). While I can't say he's over the moon, he seems to enjoy the lessons and willingly practices at home on his own, Marley has a great temperament and seems to know how to work with teens of this generation. We're grateful that she has found a way to keep him engaged. The Academy itself has been very easy to work with. The front desk personnel have all been accommodating. We like their flexible make-up policy. The location and facilities are all A+. read more

Monrovia Music academy was my son's second school for drum lessons and still is. Ben is he's teacher. Who is Exquisitely talented, knowledgeable, friendly and extremely gifted with teaching. It's hard to find someone like him. From beginner to advanced he can do the whole spectrum of students. We're truly blessed with Ben! Furthermore, the people at the admin is always there to help and answer all my questions. Keep up the amazing job! read more

My son has been taking drum lessons for about a year at MMA and it has been a great experience for him. Ben is a patient, fun, and encouraging teacher -- and they've worked together on songs, technique, and basic music theory. The recital was also a great experience for him, and his first time doing anything solo on stage. He is looking forward to the next one. read more

I've been a drum student at this location for about 4 months now and I've had a very pleasant and productive experience so far. The place is always clean and organized. It also has a weirdly soothing and sterile smell - in a good way! The staff is friendly and helpful. Setting up your schedule and payments is a breeze. But the most value I get from Monrovia Music Academy comes from my drum teacher, Lucas L. From our very first intro session (which was free, btw), I knew he was exactly the kind of teacher I was looking for. He covers both the mechanical and theoretical sides of learning the drums and when he senses that you're getting frustrated with something, he finds a way to help you get back on track. Most importantly, Lucas was able to point out the bad drumming habits I didn't even know I had and so we ironed them out right away. I can confidently say that Lucas is one of the greatest teachers I've ever had. I'm just 4 months in and I can already sense that I significantly improved as a drummer. I'm lucky to be one of his students and the academy is lucky to have him as a teacher under their employ. One con: classes are expensive (for my budget, anyway). Bonus: They have their own small parking lot on one side of their building and there's a huge public parking lot on the other side! Bonus: There's a brand new drum shop literally one block away on Myrtle called California Drums. I go there almost every after class and daydream about drumming while checking out brand new drums and cymbals. If you're a drum student at MMA, you get a 5% (or is it 10%?) discount on every purchase. read more

My 5-year-old started early childhood lessons with Ms. Becca last fall... and has had so much fun AND learned so much already! I think the Animal Adventures curriculum sets a healthy foundation for kids in such a fun, fantastic way, and Ms. Becca's warmth & wonderful ability to keep my daughter focused during the lessons has been such a blessing. My daughter is so comforted/excited that Ms. Becca will continue to be available when she begins PIANO lessons in August, and we're so grateful for the front office staff (such as Agustina) who has helped make it such a seamless transition! read more

My daughter has grown her skills and confidence with the help of her voice teacher Ms. Becca. Your dedication is very much appreciated....

MMA is great. My son's been taking drum lessons with Louie Pereira now for almost 2 years and we love it. Louie is a great teacher. I can tell he loves music and loves teaching. He sees the potential in my son and is always excited to fill me in on the progress being made. Anytime someone in Monrovia mentions their kid is interested in playing drums I tell them to check out MMA and, if possible, sign up with Louie. read more

My 6 year old has been taking violin with Ms. Lina for about 6 months now and she loves it! Ms. Lina is so patient and always has a smile on her face, my daughter enjoys attending her lessons. He doesn't get frustrated when he has to repeat the instructions again or re-teach, he makes the lesson fun for Isaac. He gives constructive criticisms in a nice tone and he encourages Isaac to do his best. Isaac even decided that he will join the upcoming recital in June. Monrovia Music Academy, thank you for everything! We are forever grateful to how patient, loving, caring, flexible and giving you are. They go above and beyond for each student and their families. We had a 3rd little guy who has had many health issues since before he was born and everyone was so understanding as to why we had to go virtual for a couple of months. They were so flexible and provided zoom lessons, checked on us often and even sent us sweet cards and gifts. We have felt so welcomed and loved by all the staff. We have two boys enrolled in this awesome and talented music academy. Our 9 year old is in guitar lessons with Chris. Chris is so patient and knowledgeable. He loves to teach and is extremely talented. Our son thinks he's the coolest guy! Then we have our 7 year old in drum lessons with Ben. Ben is so patient and caring and knowledgeable as well. He makes our little guy feel like he can do anything and ace it! He makes lessons so fun for our little wiggle worm. Our little dude loves Ben! We also got to work with Noah right before Ben and we also want to shout him out, he was awesome and patient as well. We also got to work with other substitute teachers and they are all awesome and pick up right where we last left off so it's super smooth. We highly highly HIGHLY recommend you bring your kiddos here. Thank you MMA for being the best! - The Alvarez family read more

The community of Monrovia is extremely fortunate for the upcoming opening of Monrovia Music Academy. The expansion Pasadena Music school speaks to the incredible ownership, management, and music program the school offers (ran by same owner, Ulf). My son started drum lessons at the age of 4 and has had the privilege to build a wonderful relationship with his drumming teacher for the past 8+ years. Ray, has been an amazing mentor with the upmost professionalism, talent, enthusiasm, and patience for my son. My son's musical interests have continued to flourish as he has been part of the awesome band program for over 5 years and also picked up guitar lessons a couple of years ago. Every teacher that he has encountered has been extremely skilled and wonderful to work with. I truly enjoy reading the lesson summary after each class. I also have a daughter that is enrolled in keyboard and vocal lessons, as well as part of a band. She has had the honor to work with Matt who truly understands her and is able to teach to her best learning style. Further, the music recitals the school holds are AMAZING!!! Besides the joy of performing on stage, my children have built so much self-confidence and self-esteem! Additionally, the staff at the reception are the most welcoming, helpful, and friendly people! Overall Ulf, has done a spectacular job at building up the program and ensuring that children are having fun while learning. Five years ago, we moved 25 miles away from the area, however, my children and I could not leave Pasadena Music School behind and make the commute 3 times a week! If that is not a true testament of the HIGH QUALITY of the school, I'm not sure what is! Sign up for your free trial......you won't regret it! read more
