2.5 Stars at best. Stores are leaving almost monthly. Bath & Body Works is the latest company to abandon this mall. It's now a shell of itself. It's more like a flea market anymore. Very little national stores left here now. There are more empty stores than ever before. Sad. There are a few good stores left including, Macys, Dick's Sporting Goods, JC Penny's, Kay Jewelers Hallmark, Cinemark Theater & Red Robin. Dime deals can be found but not always. Service is average at best in most of the surviving stores. The video game arcade has a Zombie Laser Tag which is a fun place to have kids birthday parties. The mall was recently purchased by Walmart and is due to be demolished in 2027 so it's fair to say that it's in a state of limbo now. We shall see how this works out. read more

Monroeville Mall is an indoor, two-story mall that was built in the 1960s. It was recently purchased by Walmart who plans to demolish it perhaps next year. My husband told me that we have previously shopped at Monroeville Mall, but I do not see a previous review from me about it. Recently, we visited this mall to shop in the stores. I had a list of stores that I wanted to visit, but when we walked around the mall, I did not see all of the stores. Perhaps those stores went out of business, and the mall did not update its website? The mall did have some vacant storefronts. I think that it is a "just OK" mall at best. My favorites stores here were Macy's and American Eagle. In addition to dozens of stores, some of which are locally owned and sometimes sell unique merchandise, other major businesses here include JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, a movie theater, and some restaurants in the food court and outside. read more

As a born & bred Pittsburgher (though Monroeville isn't really Pittsburgh, lol)...how have I never reviewed the Monroeville Mall? I mean, come on, George Romero would be so disappointed. If you don't know, he was from Pittsburgh and 'Dawn of the Dead' was filmed at the mall in 1978. Probably the best thing that ever happened there. It's a mall with its anchor stores like every other mall across the country. And like those malls, it too has seen better days. Not many stores left and the ones that are still there seem old and crappy, much like the attitudes of the folks working there. I mean heck even 10 years ago, I would have said back then that it was still "ok". Not so much now. Sad but true. I don't even think of this place much unless at Steel City Con which is held next door. Long gone are the days of the suburban malls. read more

Monroeville Mall is one of the several malls located in Pittsburgh metro area, and due to its purchase by Walmart, one with a lot of questions. Monroeville is a large two-story mall anchored by JCPenney, Dick's, Macy's, and Cinemark. This is also the mall in George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, and while here, make sure to check out The Living Dead Museum. For parents, be aware of the Youth Escort Policy after 4PM on Friday and Saturday. Interior of the mall is surprisingly nice and the hallways are longer than you'd expect. While there is vacancy, it really doesn't affect the overall quality of the mall. The mall also has a large food court off the first floor. Attached to the mall is a town center area with external entrances that includes Barnes & Noble and Red Robin among others. Overall, I enjoyed my visit here, and personally found the mix of stores here better then Westmoreland Mall. Monroeville is still a thriving and viable mall, in an easily accessible area, so the question is what will Walmart do with it? read more

I have tons of memories at this mall. One of them being September 11, 2001. I was walking into the mall that morning and I can still remember how empty it was due to everyone being at Radio Shack watching on their TV's the events that were unfolding that day. I literally saw the plane hit the second tower in this mall. That was a crazy day! This mall is where I bought my first Abercrombie & Fitch clothes. I used to come here with my friends when I was in high school and walk around, shop, eat, act up, and have a blast. I think over the years it gotten a bad rap due to the fights, shootings, and other incidents that made the news, but it's not that bad tbh. I've been to much worse malls, trust me. They have a plethora of stores to shop at and plenty of dining options inside and outside. I remember when I was a kid how excited I used to get to come here and have SBARRO pizza haha. To be young again. This mall has tons of history with several films being shot here including Dawn Of The Dead. The service is hit or miss and you can find some great deals on clothes and what not, but it's not my first option when it comes to shopping. It is the largest mall in the area when it comes to the size, the number of stores and services, around 180, but it's not the best place to shop. The anchors are JC Penney and Macy's, but they also have a Cinemark Theater. It's a good mall if you're in the area but I'd never drive out of my way to come here. Enjoy :) read more

Decided to add a 1hr detour through Monroeville to stop at the mail and visit the Night of the Living Dead museum. Since we were there at a random time during the middle of the day, the mall was pretty much dead and only saw a handful of people. Stopped for lunch at one of the shops while we waited for the museum to reopen. I've decided to not add photos since any of the photos I might've added have been already loaded by other Yelpers. Not sure what I was expecting at the museum, but it was bigger than expected and they had a nice collection of artifacts from the various zombie movies. The collection was pretty impressive and I'd say if you're already on a roadtrip, why not add a delay for a bit and check this out. Especially since it seems like the future of the mall is in question from the recent news. I hope they're able to bring in shops to help revitalize the mall and bring in regulars/locals to make it livelier since it would be sad for this massive place and the museum to close. read more

Come for "The Living Dead Museum" stay for the Auntie Anne's Pretzels! Visited the mall for the first time, not because I wanted to shop in Hot Topic or Spencer's Gifts but, because I wanted to see the "Dawn of the Dead" mall and visit the Living Dead Museum. Wish I'd gotten out here before the early 2000s remodel, fun nonetheless. The museum on the 2nd floor was cool and took you through many of the Romero movies and his influence on the genre. Great collection of movie posters, some actual and recreated props. Plus the guy a the desk is super knowledgeable so, bring any and all questions. A fun time for zombie geeks and some of the filming locations are pretty much unchanged. Not as atmospheric as the Evans City Cemetry but, what the heck you're in the ballpark you might as well play. Overall the mall is decent it's not great it doesn't display history like it use to when I was a kid and it was much funner and outgoing, now businesses are going out of business because of no money and because of new management Cypress equities has no interest in the mall, they haven't done anything to revamp the mall and make the mall a wonderful place or make it a fun mall ever again... The bad part about the mall was the parking. During the weekends, I feel bad for the people with handicapped signs when there all taken! It gets PACKED. But we always go there for the theater and maybe some shopping which is extremely fun! read more

There is no mall in the actual city of Pittsburgh. Why? Because malls were built to replace downtowns, and Pittsburgh is a city with one big downtown and a lot of mini-downtown shopping districts a stone's throw away from any given resident's house or apartment. That said, there is a mall experience a bus ride away on either side of Pittsburgh - the Ross Park Mall, and, more famously, the Monroeville Mall, the setting of Dawn of the Dead and the home of the Museum of the Dead. Having lived in the area for a good three years, I hadn't been to the mall yet because I didn't really have a need to go to one. But I figured it would make a good nostalgia trip for my younger years spent at other, smaller malls. The Hot Topic and Journey's locations were good fun, with staff who cared about the product selection and helping customers. I also have to commend the Hot Topic for understanding what customers want, with store-brand bondage-strap trousers and a selection of gothic jewelry. It was a nice change of pace from other Hot Topics I've been to that are more interested in selling Marvel and Star Wars merch. Museum of the Dead was a little underwhelming, but worth a visit for horror fans. The Barnes and Noble was well-stocked, and the cinema was really busy. If I have one bone to pick with this location it's the food court. Generic food selection, filthy seats, and you can pretty much count on being approached for money, harassed, or proselyzed to by a stranger there. I was also glad at first to see they had a cafe that wasn't a Starbucks - but the coffee was incredibly underwhelming. Aside from those minor problems, it was nice to see a mall that's still active in the 21st century. Worth touring and shopping at at least once. read more

Purchased a pair of shoes as a Christmas gift that did not fit. Did the return within their time window, yet the giftee did not get to the post office within the time period. They shipped them back to the purchaser as the giftee did not "make it to the post office in time". Wish I could rate them 0. $90 wasted and a family member without a Christmas gift. read more

Walking through Monroeville Mall during the height of the holiday shopping season really proved a huge statement to me about the battle between brick and mortar stores, vs on-line shopping. On-line shopping is clearly winning. I remember the days when I had to circle the lot a few times in order to find a parking space. In fact, as a former mall employee, I remember we were forbidden to park anywhere close to the entrances. Our designated spots were at the far end of the lot. However, in today's retail climate, I am almost convinced they encourage mall employees to park near the entrances just to make the place look alive! Sad to see so many vacant store fronts at a place that was once so vibrant. Some of the retail shops that are open for business, appear to be more temporary set-ups. The food court appears to have the same long established eateries. A true sign that a mall is going down is vacancies in the food court. Not sure what outcome is in store for malls across the nation, but I do know mall shopping will never be the same as it once was. . read more

Marilyn Monroeville Mall was popular with the Kennedys and Joe DiMaggio. That's about all I know about it. Except that I've been here 3 or 4 times now, and the most recent time spent about 4 freaking hours here because the people I was with - to put it mildly - are shopaholics. There's a lot of good stuff in this Mall, and some really cool stores like Inkas Crafts and Pearl Of The Orient. The Hot Topic is good, and the food court has a decent Sbarros and a lovely coffee shop named Gloria Jeans. Unfortunately, the bubble tea stand that I enjoyed awhile back seems to have been closed down, at least it was the last time I was here. Overall it's a great Mall, it's walkable, it's accessible from the main roads, and it's got a cool outside-shopping-street part of it attached which makes it a hybrid of the new kinds and old kinds of Malls, although honestly Pitt is way too cold for that kind of thing really. It loses 1 star for so many of the stores being overpriced, and another for the Bubble Tea being closed down. read more

The Monroeville Mall during a zombie plague was more lively than it is now. And that's a shame. I have been a longtime fan of Dawn of the Dead, and have visited several times over the past few decades, in 1993, 1998, 2002, 2008, and 2018. During the first few visits the mall was still recognizable as it was during the filming of Dawn. It was also lively, with quite a few shoppers and mainstream stores. When I visited in 2002 and 2008, the mall management were removing some of the remaining vestiges of the way the mall looked in 1978, such as the lighting fixtures and stairs at either end of the mall. A few of the stores seen in the movie were in their original locations, too. When I visited in 2018 for a Dawn of the Dead reunion it had been 10 years since I last set foot in the mall and I was shocked at how much it had gone downhill. As other reviewers noted, most of the stores were mom and pop selling junk. The JC Penny's seen in Dawn has been demolished and relocated to a smaller location on the other end of the mall. I guess it's one of the Penny's locations set for closing. Also, there were hardly any shoppers. I was there throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday and if I didn't know any better it could've been 7 am. There were also an incredible number of vacant stores. The plants in Dawn and that were there through the 90s have long been removed to make way for more kiosks selling cheap trinkets and Chinese-made junk. With so many malls failing, I presume it's only a matter of time before this one closes. If I lived in the area, I don't think I could find a reason to come here to shop. read more

Monroeville Mall has had many many ups and downs in the past 10-15 years. I grew up coming to this mall, it was always considered slightly shady..but from what I hear it's become almost dangerous. I know they had a really rough time with violence a couple years ago and they made a lot of changes. Honestly..it seems like the changes have helped and I would say that the mall seems to be on an upswing as far as I could tell on my last visit. The mall is infamous as the mall where the original Dawn of the Dead was filmed. There are still conventions and tours of the mall given out for die hard fans. I know that mentioning to any horror buff in all my travels that Monroeville Mall was my local mall growing up they would just lose there minds. Now, granted, besides the structure of the mall absolutely nothing is the same as it was when the movie was filmed. The ice skating rink in the movie has been the malls food court since at least the mid eighties..the department store with the big sliding door used to keep the zombies out in the movie has been replaced in the last ten years as well. Now there were a decent amount of empty storefronts but you can tell that they're trying to fill as many as possible with whatever they can. They installed a huge luxury movie theater in the mall a couple years ago and it really helps in making the mall seem updated and occupied. Growing up the malls movie theater was outside of the theater..I worked there and have many fond memories of it..but it was demolished and replaced with a Best Buy in the late nineties. There hasn't been a theater there again until they recently opened this new one. Overall..like I said, I feel like this mall is on an upswing again. You can tell they're trying at least..which is a lot more than can be said for a lot of other dying malls out there. With the right future updates..continuing to enforce their new rules for safety..continuing to try to fill vacant spots..this place might just survive. read more

I wonder why the mall is falling apart, I was trying to open my business over there, it took me more than two months for nothing. Sometimes I have to wait for more than a week for them to call me back. I put all my plan on hold and an overseas trip, just to get an answer about my remarks on the lease, they said it will take a few days, however, I let them know that I need to sign it in a maximum of a week because I have a trip coming I need to know if I need to by inventory for the new location or no. I was calling every day, no answer I had to go there to find out. the lady in charge assured me that I will get the answer before my departure. I wanted to take a quick visit here because it's the mall closest to where my wife grew up, and I was interested in seeing what it was like. It's certainly an older style of mall, with floors that look pretty dated. We went into Macy's, also kind of dated. It's interesting that this mall seems to have a Macy's surplus store, kind of like Nordstrom Rack. I didn't know Macy's had a chain like that. Still kicking, though! Granted, it was around the holiday season, but there was quite a lot of people walking around! We live near the Plymouth Meeting Mall, which is nicer and more modern, but there aren't ever as many people there as we saw at Monroeville. read more

True to my New Year's resolution, I am trying to physically shop, instead of virtually shop... This means that the Monroeville Mall, which is very near me, wins some of my cash. Coldwater, Chico's, Macy's & Teavanna are now destinations instead of www clicks. InsaniTea is my treat-of-choice while browsing. There's certainly a lot here for the teen scene in the clothing area. Haven't stopped at Bath & Body, yet. The new JCP is a favorite, as is their Sephora, which I adore! I have a love/hate relationship with Weight Watchers... 'nuff said! But WW is right there, easy peasy. Barnes & Noble is an easy access, and Red Robin goes well with the new Cinemark - even if there are no adult movies, at the moment. The Food Court, well, I hope to never know what's in there... But if that's your thing, it's right there, too. I haven't tried Winghart's. Watch repair / batteries - always where I go, right in the center of the lower level. And yesterday, while heading into Philip Pelusi - (love Kate & I believe she's magic) I saw a popcorn store. It was right beside Weight Watchers. Just to keep things interesting! So, that's what's on my radar so far, but 2014 is not quite 1/3 done. I weep for you Monroeville Mall. Not because you were once overrun by zombies, nor the fact that the food court is subpar...but because I want to see you thriving again. I remember growing up in the Johnstown area and thinking how awesome it was to be taking a trip to Monroeville, where there was a mall that had actual stores that the commercials on TV advertised. I know malls go through remodels and stores go bankrupt, merge, or re-brand, but *deep sigh* bring back the vibrancy to this mall. Maybe once the JCPenny's moves and a cinema is added that'll boost up the potential for this mall and pull in some chains that left or new exciting ones. The outdoor area that was added seems a bit unnecessary. Not much out there to really draw you out, everything you need is inside the mall. I worked in this mall at one point of my life and I have to say it needs to get back to the cool mall status soon. I still manage to go just to look at the fishes that are big enough to jump out of the water and beat you. If you haven't seen it yet, check out the 'Zombie Museum' located in the arcade on the lower level. It's kind of a fun area to walk through. No admission needed to go in there, but they do take donations. The 'Maul-of-Fame' is pretty cool. read more

We hunted down the various angles the shots in the movie were from. This is probably one of my least favorite malls in Pittsburgh. Considering the fact that not only is it a lot smaller but it tends to have stores that close literally all the time. Every time I try to remember where the store is in the mall it's either moved or it's no longer there. I don't like the fact that I can't count on the store to be there. The food court is okay but most of the time it looks so dirty and their options are very limited it's either Chinese pizza or a hoagie. I would like more options than just your run-of-the-mill fast food chains. I almost never visit the mall because of how lacking it is and I typically try to avoid the clothing stores because the prices are just way too high. I shop there some times for shoes and the only store that I really enjoy going to is bath and Bodyworks. That's because all the people there know me and my sister works there so they've become kind of a second family. If they had nicer clothes to choose from that were a little bit cheaper and not scandalous than I probably would continue to shop at the mall but until then, I think I'll pass and just continue shopping at Marshall's. read more

I stopped in here on a Saturday night during Xmas shopping season and it seemed very unimpressive. More people than at the Mills mall but that aint sayin' a whole lot. The one thing that strikes you right away is the police presence. I'm not talking about Paul Blart "mall cops" but REAL cops with loaded guns and concerned looks on faces. They aint playing around at this mall, and it's kinda scary and sad that a bunch of oinkers need to patrol inside a mall like this. I guess there were some big gang fights and other teenage mayhem at this mall a few years ago and now it's on "lockdown" status. Just gives the whole place a really creepy and oppressive ambience, and made me just wanna leave quickly and never go back. I can easily see why most of America would rather stay home and shop online. What's the point of going to Monroeville Mall and have cops giving you the stink eye for simply being a customer? I really don't get it, folks. Stay home and buy something on Amazon or Ebay and let's get the cops back on the street fighting real crime instead of wasting taxpayer dollars being Paul Blart wannabe's. read more

Newbie to Pittsburgh so am rating the mall compared to most malls in the country, not its history nor compared to other Pittsburgh area malls. It's average, just average. I was glad to read that Penney's isn't going out of business in the mall, just moving within the mall, not that I love Penneys but because I wondered when I saw the "closing" signs what state the economy must be in if Penney's -- the staple of mediocrity of style and prices -- was closing. Plus, I read a movie theatre was moving in where the current Penney's is now. That's certainly good news for the mall and should be a draw. Otherwise, it is, again, just average. What it has going for it? Well, how many choices do I have and what is close to where I live in Penn Hills? I do have to say I do like the fact that White House/Black Market resides there. read more

It doesn't have the high end shops the Ross Park mall does, but it is clean, easy to navigate and there is plenty of parking. There is also a remodeled section with higher end places such as Coldwater Creek. Plus, you know you are in Pittsburgh when there is an official Steelers store plus at least two other sporting goods stores that sell Penguins, Steelers and Pirates goods. The interior is well lit and easy to navigate and is always clean. Food court is very typical of other malls with chinese, hot dogs, burgers, mexican and cookies. The plus side to about average food court food is that there are plenty of other restaurant options in and around the mall. Plus, you can't go wrong with a visit to a mall featured in a zombie movie that also has a zombie museum! I'm most excited about the new movie theater coming at the end of this year! read more

It's so crazy going outside of Pittsburgh city limits because it reminds me of how the majority of PA is. Dilapidated and depressing. This mall signals that. The Monroeville Mall is an indicator of malls failing to online shopping. I came here for lunch with some coworkers and the mall was close to empty. I've realized that an indicator that a mall is dying is when there are more local mom and pops shops than regular retail stores. One redeeming quality of this was their food court- yes, there were plenty of bad "Asian" offerings however, there was a healthy place that was serving wraps and salad. It was decent and the customer service was wonderful. This mall is ok, if you need to get something however, it is by no means the best mall in the Pittsburgh area. read more

What in the WORLD has happened to this mall? I was sooooo salty about my last visit. I stopped here on a weeknight to grab a few quick items that I had coupons for. I parked in the upper Penny's lot, next to party city. Once I walked in, I couldn't believe how many stores were closed along that wing. It was honestly comical. Back in the day, this mall used to be the place to shop and way better than Greensburg. I can confidently say that this is no longer the case. They do have a lot of nicer, newer clothing stores that were recently put in (H&M, new Victoria Secret, Maurice's) along with a decent movie theater. They have the sports shops, nail salons, jewelry stores, and the food court covered. However, there are so many knock-off stores that have closed down recently after only, say a 2 year run, along with some really good places to shop/eat (NY & Co., Wingharts), that have also been closed down. I can't even name them all, but when I walk down an entire mall wing and all I see are barred gates, it doesn't feel very inviting. The bathrooms are always trash and no offense to the mall security, but I don't see much of it. Friday nights are the big nights here, but only if you're under the age of 14. One thing they have going for them is the variety of options in the food court (I'm easy to please. Check out Sinbad, though). It would be nice to see this place turned around for the better, since it has potential. read more

On my first visit here in February 2015; I was excited and fell in love with the place. It was actually the first time I visited this mall in years since either 2001 or '02. On my pervious visit here at Monroeville Mall which was last year; TBH I'm not sure when, it was I hate to say it... Another story. First I was disappointed that DQ and Orange Julies left the food court (although from what I'm seeing now; it was replaced with an Icy Roll creamery I think, I don't know if it's like a chain store or not; but they did also have one at Ross Park); second of all: I've noticed a lot more storefronts emptied (especially near the J.C. Penny/Dick's part of the mall) which kinda made me a little more disappointed and depressed about the place. A shame though -- this place used to kick ass back in the day! Plus with its storied history for playing a roll in movies (especially in the original "Dawn of the Dead" from 1978); as well as many other things, this mall is literally a Pittsburgh area landmark period! And third and most upsetting of all; I lost my Kindle Fire tablet which cost $100.00 and I'm afraid I might have "accidently" threw it away in the garbage when I got done eating in the food court! Either that; or someone stole it -- and I'm pretty sure many of you know all the crazy stuff that happened in this mall in the past 3-4 years... It would surprise me. However on the positive side: they just opened a brand new Pandora jewelry store in the new-wing of the mall (you know... The one that leads towards the theater?). So hopefully that is actually gonna help the mall out in the future. After all; we're talking about a pretty high-end upscale store! Also with the addition of an all new go-kart course in the former Dick's space in the annex; plus it's also the first one of its kind in the whole Pittsburgh metropolitan region in Pennsylvania! There are still plenty of things to do! I hoping they will eventually bring back Aeropostale and maybe even open some more high-end retailers along with it. It sure would be nice if they were to open an Apple and Microsoft store in the mall! There are also a couple other new retailers that have also opened in the mall since then as well. At least I can agree on a couple of things... They still managed to keep plenty retro décor and "ascetics" that was original to the mall since it's opening nearly 50 years ago back in 1969! Yes I know people would say; it looks too dated for their own "specialness" I'd like to call it. They all seem to claim the terrazzo flooring in the mall (which actually is mostly original from '69) is too dated and they would 'rather have laminated wood flooring or tiling' for whatever reason 'thru-out the whole mall'. I'd say (please don't sue me Yelp) they are full of shit! Yes I know it ain't no fucking Ross Park; and it certainty ain't no King of Prussia either -- but what would you expect from a region of Pittsburgh that is usually middle class or even upper-middle class?! But hey look on the bright side!... At least it ain't no C3 either, and I am absolutely certain that Monroeville Mall will most likely make it to its' 50th year in operation unlike C3 which probably won't even make it to its 40th. And if C3 does make to 40 years; I would be absolutely shocked! No lie! In my ending statement on my review and update on the mall; I would like to say a couple of things... I would rather shop at Monroeville instead of Ross Park Mall because 1) everything at Ross Park is way and I mean WAY TOO OVERPRICED! 2) It's not as overrated as Ross Park is. 3) Even though it's further away from Ross Park and where I live (which happens to be Butler, PA); it's still in my opinion easier to get to. And last and not at least 4) I would rather stay as far away from McKnight (or as many would call it "McNightmare") Road as possible due to the insane traffic it has thru-out the whole day! In the end it's your choice... If you're one of those people who are into high-end overpriced luxury items and fads - then Ross Park Mall is your bet... However if you're looking for something a little more family friendly and not too expensive and off the beaten path (as well as into zombie films and pop-culture) and a little more nostalgic - then hit up Monroeville Mall! At least I'm hearing they are slowly improving (keywords: slowly improving). read more

Not a bad mall at all! I don't know why this mall gets such a bad rap. Sure it's not Ross Park Mall but, it was recently remodeled and there is a new out door section of the mall with a few new stores like Ulta and restaurants like Monterey Bay Fish Grotto. If your a Sneaker Head like I am then this is the best mall in western Pennsylvania as far as selection for limited edition shoes. With stores like Champs, Finish Line, Foot Action, Foot Locker, Kid's Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker and Jimmy Jazz your sure to find a pair of kicks you will like. I would like to see maybe a Ashley Stewart open and a Five Guy's, Taco Bell or Subway come to the lacking food court. My daughter always enjoys and makes new friends at the Mister Rogers play area near Macy's If only they could get a Nordstrom or Bloomingdales into the old Boscov space. read more

I've been meaning to review this mall recently after reading many bad reviews. Sadly I have to do it after being present during the Macy's shooting this evening! I was in the crowded mall for a couple hrs prior to the senseless act of violence that occurred in Macy's. I was with my lady friend and her 3yo daughter just doing some shopping and spending time together as we often do there. To wrap up our trip, we let her kid run around and play in the children's area directly in front of Macy's for about 30min. We then stopped for pretzels and drinks at the adjacent Auntie Anne's. We took our food to a nearby empty bench just feet from and alongside the wall to the Macy's mall entrance close to where the shooting happened. We sat down and enjoyed our food. After we were done eating we just sat around for a bit getting ready to leave from where we were sitting and suddenly 5-6 gunshots rang loudly through the mall. Not knowing where, but sounded soo close, as it actually was to us. My friend panicked and ran frantically for the nearest exit. I quickly grabbed her daughter and ran shortly behind to safety outside. As I looked around before running all I could see was people running out of Macy's and in all directions for safety! It really was a scary moment not knowing what happened and where! After getting them to safety outside of the mall I went back in a few minutes later to retrieve our bags, her purse and cell phones that we left behind in a panic. Luckily everything was still there after many people running away past our belongings. I didn't know where exactly the shooting took place until watching the 10 o'clock news and chilling to find out that the shooting happened right in front of the entrance where we parked. We very easily could have been walking to the car and would've been right in the center of that nonsense! Thank God we stayed around for a moment after we finished eating!! Here's something I found to be chilling and sad! When I went back for our belongings, there weren't many people left in the vicinity where we were. As I was heading back to the door the police and ambulance quickly were running through the door. There were people that ran to safety into the arcade near that Macy's entrance. They all came running out a back door of the arcade feeling safer at the sight of the police coming in. Here's what I seen through that commotion. A young, chubby, Caucasian boy maybe 10-12 years old run to a police officer. I remember he had dark hair and a blue jacket. He ran to an officer and said something like..his parents got into an argument with some guys..something about pushing and he said something about his dad calling one of them the 'N' word. Then, something about a gun and shooting. I then recalled the cop telling him and others to slow down as many people were trying to tell their accounts at once while frightened still about what was going on. I instantly sympathized for the little boy, but kept going outside to leave. I remember the child seemed scared, but rather calm which I thought was strange...just what I observed!! Later after watching the news, they said two of the victims were together and I bet they were that little boy's parents..so sad! Those are the two currently listed as being in critical condition. A third and unrelated bystander victim was shot in the leg and was able to walk out the door I believe. Really sad and scary how some people can be so brazenly bold with no regard for other people's lives and commit such violent acts so easily! Hopefully the shooter is caught and brought to justice soon! I personally like Monroeville Mall and don't think it's as bad as some of the reviews on here make it to be. Surely, it's not Ross Park Mall nor does it need to be. If you need to buy a coach bag, a new MacBook or some diamonds from Tiffany & Co, then grab your black card and hit Ross, high roller!! This mall was extensively renovated and expanded about 10yrs ago and more renovations as of recent. I'm not crazy about Dick's Sporting Goods, but that and the Cinemark were nice new additions to the mall! Like how can you hate on a mall that once housed an indoor ice skating rink and was the set of the cult horror classic, Dawn of the Dead and a few other movies! I recently bought some stuff from f.y.e. as they were going out of business. I asked a cashier if the company was going out of business. She informed me that the chain is not going out of business, but rather that the mall is charging rent too high. Makes me wonder if that's a move by mall owners to bring in larger retailers that could afford higher rent..not really sure! Anyways, in closing to this review, don't give up on this mall! It has lots of potential and is gonna need your support more than ever now! read more

This used to be one of the better malls in the area. After coming back after not being there for a few years, I was really surprised at how down hill it has gone. There is a lot of vacant store fronts, a lot of stores have moved out and other not as nice stores have moved in. There are still some good stores here though. On the plus side there is a movie theater in this mall now. This is something that Monroeville desperately needed. read more

I shop here because it's close to where I live, but if I had to choose I'd rather go to Ross Park Mall. The bathroom here is far and disgusting, I dont understand why they have to put the bathroom all the way in the back. You guys need to step up and clean the bathroom! There's not much to say about this mall except it is a wounded animal, please put it out of it's misery. Many of the key shopping points have moved elsewhere for lack of bustling business. This place is barren! I have to travel to Monroeville for work at times near the mall, and the past few times I have wandered in to pick something up it's just sad. I would prefer to travel the 15miles to a better place to shop. Poor mall...I know it is an inanimate object but most of the time these places do have a heartbeat, DNR this mall is dead!! read more
